RESEARCH has revealed the reasons women have sex - and men could be surprised by the results.

It shows that for every woman expecting the earth to move, there are two with more practical motives.

From relieving boredom, to keeping the peace or curing a headache, women have sex for many reasons but romance and passion come rather low on the list, a new book has revealed.

One woman even admitted to having sex just so her husband would put the rubbish out.

"Research has shown most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," Why Women Have Sex authors Cindy Meston and David Buss said.

Having apparently discounted physical attraction, the 1000 women interviewed by the Texas University professors gave a huge range of reasons for sleeping with a man.

One said she did it for a spiritual experience, proclaiming: "It's the closest thing to God."

But mostly the explanations were far more mundane, with 84 per cent admitting to having sex just to ensure a quiet life or to bargain for household chores.

One woman said: "I have sex to relieve the boredom because it's easier than fighting. Plus it gives me something to do."

While it may not come as welcome news, some women have sex out of sympathy, with one admitting: "I slept with a couple of guys because I felt sorry for them."

But many have more selfish motives, with financial or material rewards a major factor.

In one survey of students, nearly one in 10 women admitted to "having sex for presents".

Others said: "He bought me a nice dinner", "he spent a lot of money on me early on", "he showed me he had an extravagant lifestyle".

And rather than love or romance, for many women sex is just about fun.

Six in 10 university students said they slept with a male friend who was not their boyfriend.

"Life is too damn short to be waiting four years to have sex again," one said.

Truthfully, I would lots rather put out the garbage myself, than to have sex when I don't want to. But that's just me.

I am bored at home here. Going into work tomorrow for a visit. I have missed several meetings and the boss is going to print off the things she thinks I should know about. ( As if I give a carp about that right now ).
I am going to go in for my starting time and only stay about an hour.

So, I am going to go into my own form of denial. There isn't anything I can do that will affect the outcome, except the exercises and proper specific nutrition. Protein ! Vitamins !

I read Patricia Cornwell too, Miss Fanny. There is another author I like, Michael Connelly. My daughter is taking a forensic course for her work. I want to take a look at her textbooks. I think I am going to have to do something with my mind, not school type subjects, but I need a kitchen table art type project thing. I am going to hit the big library near my work and see if there is anything that can pull me in. Usually I do a run in and out, but tomorrow I am going to stay a while.

You need to have some SEX!!!

Kat, thanks for reminding me to take my vitamins. Granted,  I don't KNOW if I should be taking them, as my dr. can't be bothered to call me, but I figure WTH, live dangerously!

Have you read the Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovitch) novels? They are fab! So funny! Great mind-candy. Also, knitting is great for stress relief (I have a feeling I'll be needing lots of scarves this winter, the back of my neck still isn't used to short hair, just think how my whole head will feel about it!! Plus, knitting makes you concentrate, and if you get good yarn, it feels pretty on your hands.

I've just started reading again, so it has been a while since I have read any Michael Connelly, but I do like him. I still have a couple of Patricia Cornwell to read. I think I will read something of his when I get through.

Everyone has some good ideas here. Your's sounds good too. I paint a little, but I usually hide them when I am through. I do love big puzzles and knitting. My favorite is cross stitching. Sewing is brainwork, and sometimes is a little stressful when I am feeling that way. Even embroidery on the machine sometimes is a little too much. It seems anything I can do with my hands, is better.

I am glad you are feeling better, and are having a good attitude.
