I hear on the radio the other day a gentleman that went to Columbia and his discussion of Barack Obama, or 'Barry Soetoro'.

My paraphrase  - He was a graduate and went to the school in the same time frame as President Obama.  He indicated that Columbia is a smaller school and most folks know one another.  Neither he nor his friends remember Barack Obama.  He also indicated that Barry would have 'stood' out among the student population at that time.

He indicated that Columbia, if one didn't attend a single class, but one did get accepted and pay tuition, would get a 'Gentleman's C'.  Apparently, they believe that since they have the cream of American students, the smartest, the best, they paid their tuition, and should all pass because they are so smart.

Why didn't Obama release his transcripts from Columbia?

Why don't people remember Obama?  I remember this from the campaign, but didn't pay attention.  I can't believe there are places that have a "Gentleman's C" policy.

Is this why Johnny can't read?  Can't do basic math?  Do these Johnny's end up in Congress and heading committees?

Banking crisis?  Housing crisis?  Deficit?

Maybe committee people should be required to take basic tests, and some advanced tests before serving.

Obama's Years at Columbia Are a Mystery
He Graduated Without Honors

Senator Obama's life story...one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him.

Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.

The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.

What about the Obama's senior papers?

For the lower classes/those without money or connections or special interest group association, on occasion, there are places with fancy names, that issue fancy sounding diplomas for a price.  They exist to fill a need.  A piece of paper, a credential...

Most of these places are shut down, there is a scandal, media attention...they are known as diploma mills.

Quote
A diploma mill (also known as a degree mill) is an organization that awards academic degrees and diplomas with substandard or no academic study and without recognition by official educational accrediting bodies. The purchaser can then claim to hold an academic degree, and the organization is motivated by making a profit. These degrees are often awarded based on vaguely construed life experience. Some such organizations claim accreditation by non-recognized/unapproved accrediting bodies set up for the purposes of providing a veneer of authenticity.

While the terms "degree mill" and "diploma mill" are commonly used interchangeably, within the academic community a distinction is sometimes drawn:[1]

A degree mill provides a "real" degree from a fake college.
A diploma mill provides a fake degree from a real college.

How is it that someone can get a 'C' and graduate without applying themselves?

I never understood why professors would lecture about class attendance and that one could fail due to too many absences...

I never heard of a Gentleman's C before - must be the rube in me.

What Will College Students Learn?

Quote
The results may surprise you. Schools like Yale fail with an F, and Princeton receives a Gentleman’s C. Interestingly, out of the seven colleges that receive an A, three of them reside in Texas. Three cheers to Baylor, University of Texas, and A&M for keeping the core curriculum alive!

Composition? Literature? A foreign language? These are things that should have been taught from grade school through High School. This is not college material, unless you wish to specialize in these fields. College is supposed to be to prepare you for LIFE and you place in it! Not to cover ground that was neglected in lower studies because of constant, Government mandated testing!

We have students entering colleges that do not even know a tenth of what we had to know just to get into high school! Most of this was mandatory in grammar school when I was young. But I guarantee you that every little bunta knows about Global Warming and that America is the cause of all the problems in the World!

with professors like Bill Ayers and Ward Churchill our universities have turned socialist and radical.with unions and government jobs taking the place of free enterprise, where are all the educated going to work? if they find jobs, the pay structures will be controlled by a czar.the college kids are what elected the radical.it seems everyone wants the government to supply the American dream by living on welfare entitlements and staying in the poverty zone by working part time.everything used as necessities for everyone will have to be taxed to support the government run nation.
