Hey very smart monkeys - I need someone very computer savey to help me find the REAL ip of  someone mailing from Gmail!  I got a guy that responded to a craig list posting of an item, sent me a forged check for it and now is threatening me with an AK 47. I called the FBI and they said if he does it again they will see if they can help me. But I am not willing to wait. Granted I can very easily defend my self with my own gun but it is a principle thing - I hate people that try to bully others to scam them.

I called the FBI and they said if he does it again they will see if they can help me. But I am not willing to wait. Granted I can very easily defend my self with my own gun but it is a principle thing - I hate people that try to bully others to scam them. 

Boyzmom, I think this is a matter for the police. You need to follow the chain of command. Let them call the FBI or whomever is responsible for threats of violence, forgery or computer fraud. They do take this very seriously. Just keep yourself safe.

Have you contacted administration at Craigslist and provided them with all the information you have?  Perhaps Craigslist would contact the police/FBI?  I don't think you should be asking posters on Scared Monkeys,  to help you find someone's IP address, especially if you've had the kind of problems you've noted.  Taking things into your own hands or getting others involved in your problems, especially if it has to do with check forgery and threats doesn't seem the right way to go, IMO.

If you are concerned about your safety I'd suggest you remove all of the links in your profile.  You are giving out way too much information about yourself, IMO. Not a good idea.  Other than that, I don't think there's much any of us can do.  Muffy's idea was the best, contact gmail.

Thanks for all the info.  I in no way wanted anyone to get involved in the actual problem. I just figured that perhaps someone would have the information I asked for. Sorry Muffy. The FBI says that they will not do anything since they do not think it is a real threat. But contacting craigs list is a good idea. I shall do it now!
