COLLIER COUNTY — Adji Desir, the Immokalee 7-year-old who disappeared in January, will be one of six missing children appearing on the upcoming cover of People magazine.
The cover reads "Vanished Without a Trace: Heartbreak & Hope," and features the stories of young people who disappeared this year. The story was prompted by the August rescue of Jaycee Dugard, who was abducted in 1991 when she was 11 years old and held captive for 18 years in the California home of her alleged kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy Garrido.
Adji was last seen playing outside of his grandmother’s house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10, while his mother was at work. Authorities from across Florida traveled to Immokalee in January and combed the nearby fields and woods for nearly a week looking for Adji, to no avail.
Adji’s photo is also being featured on national direct-mail advertising fliers being distributed to 75 million homes across the United States from Nov. 8 through Dec. 13.
Anyone with information about Adji’s whereabouts can call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 793-9300, or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). You can also visit

We are expecting freezing temps next week, what do I do with my Calla Lilly bulbs? They are still planted in a pot. Do I bring the whole pot in, or do I need to remove the bulbs? TIA

I forgot to ask about the banana tree also, it's in a big pot - can't bring it in - but what do you do with it?

Hi Jackie! I don't know what to do about a potted banana tree, but there is a banana tree planted in the back yard at work, and it winters just fine without doing anything. We have hard freezes and snow too, but as I said, it's in the ground. Can you bring it in for the winter?

Hi Jackie,
Your Calla Lily bulbs will be fine left in the pots even if you leave the pot outside. As most bulbs plants can handle the cold. Some even tell you to place them in cold storage for the wonter months. But if you leave them in the ground or pot they will multiply.

That's 'cause it's COLD out and they snuggle up to keep warm............... and well, we know what happens when you snuggle!

Hi again,
Not sure about your banana tree. As it is a more tropical plant I wouldn't think that long freezing weather would be good for it. I would see about trying to place some kind of material around the pot to help insulate it . Even if the plant leafs turn black it doesn't been the plant is dead, You just have to cut back and let it regrow when it gets warmer.
Can you put it on something like a furinture dolly and move it under a patio.

Thank You for the info, I will let the Calla's snuggle. Maybe I can put an electric blanket around the nanner tree.

I had banana trees growing in a corner of my backyard when I lived near Houston, years ago. They were quite tall and what I would do is cut them back to about 5 feet, and then wrap the trunks in lots and lots of newspaper. When I did it this way, instead of cutting back to the ground, I actually started getting little bananas later on, after the banana tree grew more fronds. If I cut the trees back all the way down and mulched them, they would live, but never got bananas. I didn't really need bananas, but it was fun with my sons to see if we could do it.
The one time I didn't do anything with the banana trees and it froze, I was out in the yard a couple of days later and I heard this mighty cracking sound. It was the ice in the banana tree trunks. And then the trees started falling over. Tiiiiiiimbeeeeeeeeer! And then there was a mess.

Not me....I had one experience shopping on the real Black Friday when I was in college. Dad let me use his car and I went to the mall after dinner. It took me an hour to find a parking space then hit as many stores as I could before the mall closed. I didn't buy a thing because the lines were so long. Kept trying the next place hoping for better luck...with no luck. Mall closed at 9:30pm and it took me another hour and a half to get out of the parking lot.
This was before cell phones, so my parents were pacing the floor when I showed up just before midnight....empty handed to boot. They just couldn't understand why, but I still remember it clearly.
