I am not a bird person.  The top pic has two cranes in it.  I could not tell you what kind of cranes they are.  I just know they had big wingspans.

My Mom had a mild stroke a several years ago and my Dad's death was still very fresh and very painful to me at the time.  In chatting with her she was saying that one of her regrets was that she had not seen more of Canada.  So hubby and I took 2 months off work, rented a van and as soon as the kids got out of school drove across all of Canada so my Mom could see it.  We drove so if she needed medical care we could change plans in a  heartbeat and so that if we found a really cool place we could spend more time there.  It was the most amazing trip that I am so thankful we did.  I have over 1000 pictures from that trip and learned so much about my country.  I also saw the joy in my Mom's face as she saw places she had always wanted to see.

My mama never did want to go anywhere. It was hard to get her to visit relatives, and she would only go if I would go with her. That was a wonderful trip for her and your family, and very thoughtful.  an angelic monkey

But I was the one who wanted to see the USA, and that was one of the reasons I decided I wanted to drive a truck. I had never even been west of the Mississippi River except for once when I went to Baton Rouge. I got to see so much of it, but there was so much more I didn't see.

My hubby and I were going to buy a RV when we retired and go to the places we were not able to see in a big truck. Then life got in the way. That's ok, because we still have our memories.

Many people thing that Eh is a accent made in Canada, but the truth is that because Canada has such little gravity it put less strain on the Canadian people's mouths, so that when they come down south to normal gravity their mouths have more strain and the sound eh comes out.

Memories are a good thing.  Our trip was one of the best things we ever did.  The kids got to swim in every Great Lake, and saw every province and Territory.  That year for Christmas my daughter and I made my Mom scrapbook of the trip. First time I had ever scrapbooked and it turned out wonderfully.  We added rocks, leaves and other things from the trip to the pages.  She has it in her living room and looks through it all the time.

Here is a link about the Sand Hill Cranes in Nebraska. It is amazing to see the clouds of birds and amazing they can even fly. Be sure to watch the video clips.

Creating air kill in a bird sanctuary is pretty interesting.  No idea what it was, but it broke the grill and left feathers in the radiator grill.

CC, love your avi!

Northern Rose, is your day job writing travel brochures? You do an excellent job of describing everything.

Sadly, Canada decided eons ago that Tevye (during her misspent youth) should no longer be allowed to visit. They said something about a "Queen's pardon"....and I'm all like..'well, if I can't travel to Canada, why in the heck would I go all the way to London to see Liz? Just to say "Beg your pardon, Mum?" and then like I can go back thru Canada?'

And I really want to drive to Alaska...so I must get this straightened out. I'm thinking about just trying to cross the border and see what happens....but not now. I got enough crime and punishment on my plate!
