Thanks TxMom and Buckeye.

I find it very weird that his bloody pants, shoes and socks were left folded and placed so neatly.

Me too!

One thing I can think of is that they told him to take off his clothes.  He was folding them to stall for time.    ....or the police folded them to make it look like there was no struggle.....too bad about all the blood...would have looked like a suicide.

That's a good possibility about stalling for time.

I see they are already floating a story that he liked gay bars and Latin American women.

I'm wondering if your second thought is going to be closer to what the 'official' story will be.

That police folded his clothes, and it's going to be concluded that he took them off while feeling no threat - either with his gay lover or one of his Latina's.

That then things got out of control - jealous third party?  Or a murder suicide pact?

Sadly, I see these people saying anything and everything but the truth - just like with Natalee's disappearance.

I sure hope Mr Hogan's family is going to get the US media involved soon!

The reports have said it was determined to be Hogan's blood.  Curacao must have the means to determine this.   Just thinking of dog's blood on mattress in Natalee's case vs. car interior which had to be sent away to determine chocolate & cleaning fluid.

Wonder, if blood was present on clothing/shoes, if there were any prints....that is if the blood was on the clothing prior to folding and shoes neatly aligned.

One of the articles said items were sent to the NFI for testing - so I'm unclear on whose testing concluded it was his blood, NFI or local?

Great thoughts on any prints vs when the blood got on the clothes, 2NJ.

Thinking along the same lines regarding the rumors, I happened to focus on the mention of Breezes in one of Buckeye's posts and came across a map listing that resort and casinos within that area.  My curiosity was focused on what kind of party he and his wife attended on Thurs. 9/24 and the possibility that he had an interest in gambling.  This is not to say I want to create another 'rumor', but just wondered about it.  I would think the authorities would have checked out the party and guests, as well as the Hogan's preferred pasttimes, but I may have missed some things along the way.

It's easy to accept the possibility that someone may have seen Hogan on that first night during his 'walk', but it isn't as easy to accept he was seen walking around the following night, imo.

It baffles me that this is not in our US media.

A reception at the consulate from what I recall.  I wasn't sure about her attending also, but read recently that she did.

I'm baffled about it not being in the media too!

US diplomat missing in Curacao

Updated: Monday, 12 Oct 2009, 4:50 PM EDT
Published : Monday, 12 Oct 2009, 4:50 PM EDT

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Investigators in Curacao are asking the public for help solving the disappearance of an American diplomat whose bloodied clothes were found last month on one of the Caribbean island's beaches.

A police-produced video broadcast over the weekend asks islanders to plug gaps in the last known movements of U.S. Vice Consul James Hogan, who vanished Sept. 24 after leaving home for one of his regular midnight walks. The 10-minute video also includes a request for information about the 49-year-old official's social life on the Dutch island.

"We want to know just what he does when he leaves the home," police spokesman Reggie Huggins said Monday. "We need to know if he has other friends maybe his family doesn't know about. We just want to know where he hangs out and what his social life is."

A trail of Hogan's blood was found on rocks leading to the water at Baya Beach, where his clothes were folded neatly in a pile, Huggins said. An expensive kitchen knife and Hogan's cell phone were found in the water just off the beach, popular for its water sports and its nightlife.

The broadcast included numbers for an anonymous hot line that Huggins said has generated some tips.

"We don't have a breakthrough yet," he said. Authorities are still considering "all possibilities" including suicide.

The missing man's brother, Paul Hogan, said the family would not comment out of concern for the privacy of James Hogan's wife and five children.

It was after 11 p.m. when Hogan, dressed in sneakers, blue jeans and a blue polo shirt, told his wife he was going for a walk and set out from their home outside the capital, Willemstad. Hogan often took late-night walks for an hour or two, according to Huggins.

Tips provided by islanders so far place Hogan in three different neighborhoods that night as late as 3 a.m.

The video asks for witnesses to come forward if they gave Hogan a ride or saw him walking one of the roads between those neighborhoods. In particular, it asks for information from the driver of a two-door BMW seen in one of the neighborhoods.

Hogan, who has legal residence in Florida, arrived in Curacao in August 2008 for a two-year assignment, according to U.S. State Department records.

Curacao lies about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Venezuela and is the headquarters of the Netherlands Antilles government. The U.S. stations military planes at the island's airport for multinational counter-drug missions in the Caribbean.

In the days after Hogan's disappearance, the local coast guard and the U.S. Navy scoured the shoreline. Missing-person fliers with Hogan's photo appeared in newspapers including those in Aruba, the nearby Dutch island where Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway vanished in May 2005 during a high school graduation trip.

Tips from TV program on U.S. vice consul

October 12, 2009, 14:28 (GMT -04:00)

PHILIPSBURG - After a television broadcast Saturday and repeated yesterday on a U.S. vice consul James Hogan gone through Tele Curaçao, new tips are received, says police officer Reggie Huggins today. He did not lose or tips related to include a chef's knife that investigators in Punta Caballero found at Barbara Beach.

Hogan was September 25th by his wife missing. After an initial police search in Kunchi Toni, moved the quest for the vice consul to Baya Beach and the Peninsula Caracas.

Clothes Americans were in fact found Punta Caballero. There were also blood stains on his clothes and in place. It was under investigation by the staff of the Dutch Forensic Institute Hogans his blood.

The Curaçao police Saturday in a special television broadcast asked the public for tips on missing American vice consul. The broadcast shows that much is unclear about where to go Hogan on September 24 when he went around eleven hours at night on foot left home.

It also became clear that kilometers far from his home in Punta Caballero, his pants and socks neatly folded and his shoes were found. It was reported the find in the water of one of the brand Zwilling Henckels chef's knife with blood stains on it. Also there was blood on the pants. The water was later found his mobile phone.

In recent weeks there in Curacao Hogan searched diligently for a special team, including employees of the FBI and the Department of Foreign Affairs involved. Netherlands supports the research but also military personnel of the Dutch Forensic Institute.

Through the television broadcast of Saturday which was repeated last night, calls the police, witnesses and old witnesses who have remembered more. The research team is interested in people such as Vice Consul foot would probably have seen or have seen getting into a car. Furthermore, the police come into contact with witnesses in the Hogan Caracasbaaiweg or Bapor Kibra the height of the Breezes Resort would have seen.

Furthermore, the police may contact the driver and occupants of a car from the BMW who stopped at the parking bay to Caracas at the level of the Seahorse restaurant. Police are looking for individuals who were in the peninsula, including one woman who said loudly.

Chef's knife lost
The police also calls people who make it a chef's knife from Henckels Zwilling have lost or know people who are in possession of that mark. The research team is finally interested individuals to have known that James Hogan and know where and with whom he is usually hanging out. Any witnesses should contact the Corps at the Curaçao Police Numbers 8666-124, 911 and 108 (anonymous).

Thanks to all that having bringing articles and information about this case.  There isn't much at all to be found in U.S. news.  Something is really fishy about this, and has been from the get go, imo.

Not really case related but I found this report interesting...haven't read it all yet.

The report was published a few months before Mr. Hogan arrived in Curacao; and the inspection was actually performed months before that.

I keep thinking about this post.  No confirmation that this is actually posted by one of Mr. Hogan's daughters; my thinking is that it probably is because of the details about the younger sister etc.

Why was there no mention AT ALL in the televised appeal to the public about the woman who was fired recently?  That is of course unless she drives a white BMW?  Unless they think she may have been the woman heard speaking "loudly" at the beach that night?

It bothers me that they emphasize wanting information about his after hours friends etc., but don't request information about those who may have had it out for Mr. Hogan for any reason; and a recent firing in the same office would rate high in that respect IMO.

I find it very hard to believe that Mr. Hogan was actually seen in all the places that witnesses have reported seeing him.  How credible are these witnesses?  Can these sightings be verified by any other means such as security video?  I'm also wondering if tracker dogs were used in any of these areas to see if they hit on his scent in those areas.  Did they attempt to follow his footsteps from home with a tracker dog at all?  I don't know what specific search training the dogs had that were provided but I hope at least one of them was trained and used in that respect.  I hope that the basis of law enforcement placing him in that many areas was based on more than anonymous tips, because I believe it's very likely that those responsible for his disappearance could be attempting to lead the investigation on many wild goose chases.

We've seen it before.

I believe it is very likely that whomever caused harm to Mr. Hogan knew his routine of the late night walks and where he took them.  Other than his family, those he worked with on a daily basis would have probably known about those walks too.  It would be interesting to know how much routine was involved in his walks...did he walk every night...on specific nights..or no real pattern to when he took them?  He and his wife attended a reception at the Consulate that Thursday (iirc) evening.  Were they being watched?  Did someone lay in wait for him to leave the security of his neighborhood on his own, abduct him, and then stage a crime scene that would leave room for all sorts of speculation?  IMO the knife that was shown in the police video is not one that someone just happens to have with them at any time.

I can't help but believe that if this had been a random act of robbery gone wrong, a crime of passion, or even as LE has suggested a suicide; his body would have been found.  There has been no mention of any remains being found.  So I also believe that the perpetrator of this crime either had help by means of a boat to take him away from the island; or has possibly disposed of or buried him away from the crime scene.

I keep thinking over and over in my head...where there is no body, there is no crime.

In the recent news several skeletal remains have been found on the island, some just laying out in the open on a hillside.  I hope to goodness that the search for Mr. Hogan has not been limited to the area where evidence was found!  I have seen no reports of searches anywhere else.

WHY, WHY, WHY, AREN'T ANY AMERICAN MEDIA DOWN THERE FOLLOWING THIS CASE?

This is the post that gave the details about the younger sister, that I commented on in my prior post.  The comment is posted in response to other responses to the same article, by the same author, a few days later.

Mystery deepens over US vice consul’s disappearance

The disappearance last Thursday of the US vice consul to Curacao in the Dutch Antilles has prompted a huge search on the island and the waters surrounding it. Local authorities on the island, which lies 40 kilometres off Venezuela’s coast, are being assisted by both the Dutch Royal Navy and the US Navy in a bid to find further clues as to 49 year old James Hogan’s disappearance.

Mr Hogan took his regular walk on Thursday evening and was reported missing by his wife on Friday morning after he failed to return home. A preliminary search by police found no trace of Mr Hogan

Over the weekend a passer-by found some abandoned clothes in the vicinity of Baya Beach area, some ten kilometres away from the Hogan’s family home. Traces of blood were found on the clothes and the area surrounding the place where they were found. The clothes matched a description given by Mr Hogan’s wife, according to Ludmilla Vicento, spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office.

DNA tests
The NFI [Dutch Forensic Institute] is now carrying out tests to see if the blood found on the clothes matches Mr Hogan’s DNA.

Mrs Vincento told Radio Netherlands:

"No FBI agents are involved at this stage but US agencies may become active here if we invite them. The Netherlands have sent a couple of specialist detectives with search dogs."

Radio Netherlands correspondent in the Dutch Antilles Rene Roodheuvel said that the search was widening by the day.

“The police are in constant contact with the consulate. There happened to be an American ship in the harbour which is helping with the investigations, providing men and helicopters for the search. The investigation itself is being handled locally by police and the district attorney.”

Missing person
So far it’s being treated as a missing persons case, says Mr Roodheuven, but with every day that passes, fears are growing for Mr Hogan’s safety.

Inevitably, comparisons have been drawn with other disappearances or deaths of foreign nationals in the Dutch Antilles. US teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared without a trace on the island of Aruba in 2005, prompting massive media coverage. In 2008 Dutch trainee nurse Marlies van der Kouwe was killed on the island of Bonaire.

Rene Roodheuvel says that police are trying to learn from mistakes that were made in previous missing persons cases.

“They are trying to be as transparent as possible. They learned from the Nathalie Holloway case…mistakes were made and they will try to prevent that from happening again.”

Those last two paragraphs sound good...I just hope they're TRUE.

A striking similarity to the LETA CORDES disappearence in Sint Maarten last year except for the clothing...

The disappearance of Mr. James Hogan is very disheartening. I know his daughter, and she is one of the most sincere individuals that I know. I pray that authorities take the proper action and resources and carry this search out to the end. On a side note, the clothes appearing is too easy and obviously Mr. Hogan probably didnt go for a walk.

I too know the family and they are all most wonderful folk including James Hogan himself. Genuine individuals of which the world has too few. There is obviously more to this story than meets the eye. All sorts of rumours going round, who knows what to believe. The discovery of his clothing together with the forensics matching his blood type to that which was found is all extremely disappointing as, in all honesty, the situation doesn't look good for James Hogan (and consequently his family).

I am very sorry for the family Hogan at this time. I.m only very nervous to see what the reaction is going to be by the Americans and the U.S. media towards the Island and the islanders. Having read some of the posts and stories printed at this time around the web i fear we the antillians are going to villified again for the action of a single person or persons. For the authors info there are 7 FBI agents on the island working and assisting the local Police. It is also said that they found Mr. James mobile phone in sea. Please let it not become an media circus like the Holloway case but i fear we can't do anything about that now.

I stand with the girl, Natalee Holloway.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.
