Northern Rose I see you up there.  Hope your doing okay?  Did you get your tree yet?

Hi Green Eyes.   Hubby got tree yesterday.  It is leaning against the wall because I killed the tree stand after we got it in the stand.   Stand has a chain you put around tree trunk.  Attached to the bottom part of the stand are  4 nylon ropes to attach to chain  and pull to straighten tree.  I was clipping the bottom branched and cut through a  rope.  Tree fell.....need I say more?

That reminds me of the year Son picked one that was so bent that I had to hammer a couple 16 penny nails in the wall to attach a rope to to get the thing to stand up. Hubs was not to happy with me. But I got the tree up.

I went to five different places tonight and no tree stand, everyone is sold out. Tomorrow I am going to strategically lean the tree against the wall and decorate it . At least it will go fast as the part against the wall will not need to be pretty.

Buy a Standstraight stand at one of the roadside tree-selling stands, then drill a hole up the center (the place you buy the tree will also drill the hole), you will never struggle with a tree again!  It has, no doubt, saved more marriages than a good therapist!

Good afternoon, monkeys.

I just posted a veggie sidedish recipe in the food/recipe section.  It's a really good recipe for marinated green beans and peas, which is delicious with ham.  It's fairly simple to prepare, but...boy...is it good!  I've gotten many compliments on this recipe over the years.  And...best of all...it just gets better day-after-day.

Enjoy!

Puzzler

That sounds great, Puzzler.

1.  Marinate the veggies
2.  Marinate the guests.
3.  Don't mind if I do!

Good evening monkeys...!  Trying to put together my Mom's wonderful fudge recipe.

These are the ingredients that I remember, but I don't know amounts.  Does anyone have this recipe?

Chocolate Fudge with Pecans

        choc. cocoa
        white sugar
        milk
        butter
        vanilla
        pecan pieces
        marshmellow creme

I believe the cocoa, sugar and milk are cooked over fire to soft ball stage...

then I think butter, vanilla and pecan pieces are added and all is stirred/whipped together....I am not sure about the butter....it could be in step one

then the marshmellow creme is added and stirred together

the fudge is then quickly put into an 8 x 8" glass container that is greased with butter....

it sets up quickly and is ready to cut into squares in about 15 minutes.

Thanks.....I am on line also looking, but so far, nothing....!

Santa, can you bring me some of Mere's fudge?

I didn't realize you could do it yourself, I always thought you needed a cat to do that.

NRose, I have missed you!  (I just spelled your name NRoxie, is there something you would like to tell us?  Did Santa channel a message through my hands?)

Are you.....................

Foxy Roxie?

Oh, wait NRosie, I just remembered, you do your cookin' in the kitchen!

You mean I won a trip to Italy?

Mere - is this it?

2 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 stick butter or margarine
1 5 oz. can evaporated milk
1 Jar (7 1/2oz) Marshmallow Creme
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1 12-oz. package semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 /2 c. chopped walnuts

Grease a 9-inch square baking pan; set aside. In large saucepan combine the first 5 ingredients. Stir over low heat until blended. Increase heat to Medium and bring to a full-rolling boil being careful not to mistake escaping air bubbles for boiling. Boil slowly, stirring constantly for 5 minutes (use Soft-Ball test). Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and chocolate until chocolate is melted. Add nuts. Turn into greased pan and cool. Makes 2 1/2 pounds.

Hint: As with all fudge recipes, cooking time will vary depending on factors such as humidity and altitude. For best results, use the softball test to make sure the fudge has been cooked enough.

What test?  Who plays baseball while making fudge?

Chocolate Fudge with Pecans

        pecan pieces

I believe the cocoa, sugar and milk are cooked over fire to soft ball stage...

Thanks.....I am on line also looking, but so far, nothing....!

I didn't have some of the ingredients so I improvised a little.  I bravely tried this recipe out so no monkeys would be harmed.

I used:

Vanilla (substitute vanilla ice cream), gobs
Marshmallow Creme, by the tablespoonful
Pecans (substitute wet walnuts), by the teaspoon (that is all that will fit in that little jar)
Chocolate cocoa (substitute hot fudge--it is fudge after all, not cocoa we are making here)

Pile it on and enjoy!  Ready to serve immediately!  (This cut waiting time from 15 to 0 minutes)

Bringing this over too:

an angelic monkey  Nutt thank you for fixing the title. It looks so much better now. I can't believe I didn't even notice it until yesterday! Well, now they just have to find little Marc. Little 4yr old boys don't just walk off and disappear into the sunset.

Woke up a little early this morning:

Adorable!  I love how your seasoned dog is keeping a watchful eye on him.  Or is worn out and has to sit it out for a while!
