Unusually warm out here in Calif.  Was 81 a couple days ago.  Yesterday was mid 70's and expected to be about the same for the rest of the week.  It's beautiful perfect weather but unusual.  We should be getting some rain at least every once in a while

Now that's just cruel, Klaas!  I'm sitting here reading all the temps in everyone's locations & up pops an 81  Even south Florida is getting some of this deep freeze. The kids go back to school tomorrow & it's supposed to snow 1-3 inches tomorrow night! When it snows here everything shuts down, at least temporarily. My hubby will have to stay at work if it does snow; they're already told him to be prepared to stay.  I hate winterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm also praying for an early Spring!!  an angelic monkey

Yikes,  Hello Monkeys, I can not believe that we have a strong possibility for snow here in Florida, or at least where I am...It has been so cold and  now the weather channel says we just might get snow Thursday and Friday. I dont know anything about snow and so I guess I will be locked in my home ..lol

Do we have any Monkeys that live in Oklahoma, My sons girlfriend bought him a dog for Cristmas and the owner of this dog is in Oklahoma and my son and his girlfriend will be going there on the 11th to pick up his new dog...  Im worried about the weather there and would like to hear from anyone in the area about what precautions they should take.  Thanks

This goes out to our delightful monkey BRANDI:

Sung to, (Brandy, You're a Fine Girl).

"And there's a girl, in this monkey town...
And she works, laying avi's down...

They ask "Brandi, how bout another round?"...
And she serves them avi's up fine.

The monkeys say "Brandi, you're a fine girl...
What good work you do for me...
Yeah.... your eyes can make avatars heavenly........."

Brandi, I soooo love Casper's new avatar.  I know I say that each one is the cutest but this one really is.  You just out do yourself each time.

Brandi, you are a fine girl and you bring so much happiness and smiles to your fellow monkeys.  I just adore you.  Your hard work is so appreciated.

Geez, I am using Firefox and I have NEVER had so much trouble getting on SM site.

Klaas, those doggies sunbathing just makes me so jealous.  Here is our forecast:

Issued by The National Weather Service
Louisville, KY
2:02 pm CST, Tue., Jan. 5, 2010

... FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWS OF THIS WINTER SEASON AND BITTERLY COLD CONDITIONS TO AFFECT THE REGION EARLY THURSDAY INTO THE WEEKEND...

THE LATEST WEATHER FORECASTS CONTINUE TO BE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH A STORM SYSTEM BRINGING THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL TO THE REGION. THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT THOSE AREAS OF SOUTHERN INDIANA AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY... WEST OF INTERSTATE 65... IN THE PREDAWN HOURS THURSDAY MORNING AND OVERSPREAD ALL OUR REGION BY MID MORNING. THE SNOW WILL DIMINISH IN INTENSITY DURING THE AFTERNOON. BASED ON THE LATEST WEATHER DATA... SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 3-5 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA WITH THE HIGHER AMOUNTS ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA AND THE LOWER AMOUNTS OVER SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY.

THE IMPACTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM ARE LIKELY TO BE SIGNIFICANT ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY. WITH AN ANTECEDENT ARCTIC AIRMASS IN PLACE... SNOW FALLING THURSDAY WILL QUICKLY ACCUMULATE ON AREA ROADWAYS AND MAKE TRAVEL CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA HAZARDOUS. IN ADDITION... STRONG GUSTY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO ACCOMPANY THE BACK END OF THE SYSTEM AS IT MOVES THROUGH. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 MPH WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 30 MPH WILL RESULT IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. THE BLOWING SNOW WILL RESULT IN DECREASED VISIBILITIES AT TIMES. THE COMBINATION OF COLD TEMPERATURES AND THE WIND WILL ALSO DRIVE WIND CHILL READINGS DOWN TO NEAR ZERO.

AS THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES OFF TO THE EAST ON FRIDAY... A RE- ENFORCING SHOT OF ARCTIC AIR WILL PUSH INTO THE REGION. ALONG WITH THE COLDER TEMPERATURES... SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE COMMONPLACE... MAINLY ACROSS SOUTHERN INDIANA AND THE BLUEGRASS REGION OF KENTUCKY... RESULTING IN SOME ADDITIONAL LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. WITH THE ANTICIPATED SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS... THIS COLD SHOT OF AIR WILL RESULT IN TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE LOWER SINGLE DIGITS FRIDAY NIGHT AND POSSIBLY BELOW ZERO SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

NOW IS THE TIME TO START MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR THE UPCOMING SNOW AND COLD. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO PROPERLY WINTERIZE YOUR CAR. AREA ROADWAYS ARE LIKELY TO BE HAZARDOUS THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT. BE SURE TO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF SPACE ON THE ROADWAY AND ALLOW EXTRA DISTANCE TO STOP. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION.

IN YOUR HOME... TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO WINTERIZE ANY EXPOSED WATER PIPES TO KEEP THEM FROM FREEZING. USE CAUTION WITH SPACE HEATERS AND KEEP THEM AT LEAST 3 FEET AWAY FROM FLAMMABLE OBJECTS SUCH AS CURTAINS AND FURNITURE. NEVER USE A GAS STOVE OR CHARCOAL GRILL TO HEAT YOUR HOME. THESE DEVICES RELEASE CARBON MONOXIDE... WHICH IS ODORLESS AND CAN KILL.

BE SURE TO CHECK ON THE WELL BEING OF THOSE THAT MAY SUFFER MORE FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE COLD... ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY AND YOUNG CHILDREN. IF YOU HAVE TO WORK OUTSIDE... BE SURE TO DRESS IN LAYERS AND COVER YOUR HEAD... EARS AND HANDS. MORE BODY HEAT IS LOST THROUGH THE HEAD THAN MOST PEOPLE REALIZE. TAKE IT EASY OUTDOORS. EXTREME COLD PUTS EXTRA STRESS ON THE BODY AND HEART.

AREA FARMERS AND PRODUCERS ARE URGED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO ENSURE LIVESTOCK CAN HANDLE THE BITTERLY COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. ENSURE THAT LIVESTOCK HAVE UNFROZEN WATER AND WIND BREAKS OR SHELTER AND EXTRA FEED. HOUSEHOLD PETS... IF KEPT OUTSIDE... SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN... IF POSSIBLE.

It is unusually bad tonight.  Sounds like the server needs to be rebooted (or that's what I do when our server slows down like this).

I can't compete with Sand and Beaches and Sunshine on Blue Seas (Klaas!  ), but for all you Monkeys who are shivering in the Southern Mountains with me, I did take this pic in late Fall one late afternoon while I walked Kubear up the street. I couldn't find a summer pic, but It was WARM and it will be again! I'm going to pretend that's the way it is now.  You guys are welcome to join me in my fantasy!

(I'm totally ignoring the snow on the mountains now............ they aren't white, they aren't white, they aren't white!)

OK, all together now............. ahhhhh, the sunshine feels SO good!

Oh I just love your country.  Those mountains are so beautiful.  Here is a picture of the Shenandoah valley (where my great-great-great grandfather came from (and this church sits almost on the land he owned):
