Thanks BluMonkey!  Too many members to even attempt an avatar Christmas tree this year but I thought a simple mug might be fun.  Glad you like it!

http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=adopting-a-soldier

Signing up to adopt a Soldier, Sailor, Airmen or Marine is simple and takes only a few minutes.  It is a commitment to send at least a letter each week and a care package each month throughout the service member's deployment.

If You Are Already A Soldiers' Angel:  Just visit ApprovedAngels.com, sign in, and click on "Adopt a Soldier."

If You Are Not Yet an Official Member of Soldiers' Angels:

Join Soldiers' Angels through the "Verified Angel" option and select to adopt.  If you do not select auto-verification by donation, Soldiers' Angels will take the time to manually verify your information.

Once your membership has been approved (automatically through auto-verification, or manually up to a week later), you will receive an email titled "Welcome to Soldiers' Angels" and filled with FAQs and all sorts of good information to help you get started. Information on your soldier will arrive in a second email.

What Next?:  The next step is writing your first letter and preparing your first care package for your soldier. Each Angel who adopts a soldier commits to sending at least one letter a week and at least one care package a month. You may or may not hear back from your soldier, so do not be disappointed if your soldier does not reply. Our troops are very busy (they are in a war zone!), but you can be sure that your letters and care packages are treasured by your soldier!  Some Angels have experienced writing to a soldier an entire deployment without getting a reply until the soldier returns home and tells the Angel how much the letters and packages meant during deployment.

John Lennon - Killed 29 Years Ago Today

Updated: Tuesday, 08 Dec 2009, 10:57 AM CST
Published : Tuesday, 08 Dec 2009, 10:55 AM CST

By FRANK CARNEVALE

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - John Lennon was killed 29 years ago today in New York City when Mark David Chapman approached him and his wife Yoko One in front of their building, the Dakota, and shot Lennon.

Lennon was just returning to his home around 11 p.m from the Record Plant Studio where he was recording new music. He was pronounced dead at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center after being shot five times by his assailant.

Lennon, born on Oct. 9, 1940, was the most outspoken member of The Beatles, and he went on to address issues of world peace and conflict in his music and art in his later life. He and his wife, artist Yoko Ono, are famously remembered in the iconic Rolling Stone magazine cover of the couple in bed with a nude Lennon cradling Ono with his arms and legs.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame writes that Lennon "did more than anyone else to shake [rock and roll] up, move it forward and instill it with a conscience."

Some of his most widely know songs of his post-Beatles career include, "Imagine," "Mind Games," "Instant Karma," and "Give Peace a Chance." The songs typify his desire to raise awareness for social change.

Chapman, a deranged fan, has been imprisoned since 1981 after pleading guilty to second degree murder. He is being held in the Attica Correctional Facility, outside of Buffalo, N.Y. According to Wikipedia he has been denied parole five times.

Though their popularity has hardly waned, there has been a resurgence of interest in The Beatles, as their music catalog has recently been released in "The Beatles: Rock Band" for use with video game players.

A video for the song "Imagine" posted on YouTube:

Wow, Bearlyhere.....was that a reaction to the shot at the allergy doc's?  That happened to my friend many years ago.  Yikes!

No, if I get the least bit agitated or even happy, I go up in flames.  It was a hot flash.  They are slowly increasing hormones to tone them down.  Those guys blocking the way to me retrieving the things from where I was sitting, and they took up residence, ticked me off.
