He's not saying anything about the shootings, I swear I have never hated a President in my entire life, until now.

Hubby made the mistake of asking me what happened.I just said the longest sentence of curse words you have ever heard.   

Praying for all in Temple/Killeen/Ft. Hood area & families.  My sis is surgeon's asst. at VA Hosp. & bro is SWAT team in nearby county.  Neither answer texts.  Praying for all.

What the he77 is O doing!! He is giving a speech at a conference!! He is patting everyone on the back.  He is talking about Native Americans. 

Finally he is speaking about the Fort Hood shooting.....He says as Commander in Chief he will see that the soldiers are properly cared for. He said it was a horrific outburst of violence. No further details.....Now I am really reassured.

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Twelve people were killed and 31 wounded in a pair of shootings Thursday at the Fort Hood Army base in Central Texas, the Army says. An army spokesman in Washington says the base was locked down following the shootings.

The FBI is sending agents to the scene.

A Fort Hood spokesperson said the first shooting began at about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing office. The facility, called a Soldier Rating and Processing center, handles administrative details for soldiers. 

Officials said the shooter, a soldier, walked in a opened fire with handguns.  The shooter was killed by civilian police.  Two other soldiers were taken into custody, but the spokesperson said they were not involved in the initial shooting.

A second incident was reported at a theater on the sprawling base.  Another Army official identified that site as the Howze Theater.  That official, who requested anonymity to discuss an evolving incident, said a graduation had been scheduled for 2 p.m. at the theater.

The White House said President Barack Obama was notified of the shootings.

Lt. Col. Nathan Banks says it is too soon to tell whether there is any link to battle stress or repeated deployments. The Army is suffering a record high suicide rate and other signs of stress from fighting two wars.

The Web site of the base in central Texas has posted an alert that says, "Effective immediately Fort Hood is closed." The Web site said that units at the base have been ordered to account for all personnel.

The site says, "This is not a Drill. It is an Emergency Situation."

"It is quite a state of pandemonium right now," said a reporter for the Killeen Daily Herald.

Fort Hood is the largest military facility in the free world.  Officials have told KVUE News that military police have taken control of the situation.  Victims were being taken the Darnell Medical Center on post.

The area is no stranger to the tragedy of mass shootings. In 1991, a man entered a Luby's cafeteria in Killeen and killed 24 people during a 15-minute rampage.

The Army base is home to nearly 65,000 soldiers and family members.

It is headquarters for: the 1st Cavalry Division; 4th Infantry Division's Combat Aviation Brigade; III Corps, First Army Division West; 13th Corps Support Command; 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade; 21st Cavalry Brigade;  4th Combat Aviation Brigade; 31st Air Defense Brigade; and 89th Military Police Brigade.

Anyone remember at the begining of the war when the soldier threw the grenade in his officers tent? I wonder if this is the same situation.

Hillcrest in Waco has zero casualties but stands ready, an official said.

Scott and White in Temple is expecting three adult victims, but an official was unable to say if they have arrived yet. Their emergency room has been closed to the public.

Yes, I remember that, and it sure could be. Going from the article that Muffy posted, stress and record high suicide rate, could be part of it.
