Haleigh Cummings' father and former stepmom arrested on drug charges

Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin accused of trafficking in controlled prescription medications

The father and former stepmother of a missing Putnam County girl were arrested Wednesday on charges of trafficking in controlled prescription medications.

Ronald  Cummings, Misty Croslin, Hank Croslin Jr., Hope A. Sykes,and Donna Broch, were arrested Wednesday, according to a news release issued just after 11 p.m. by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. Hank Croslin Jr. is Misty Croslin's brother.

Putnam police said an undercover officer purchased large quantities of prescription medications on seven occasions. The estimated street value of the Oxycodone and Hydrocodone is $3,900.

Cummings and Misty Croslin were arrested Wednesday after prescription medications were purchased from investigators. The others were arrested on warrants, according to the news release.

If convicted as charged, Ronald Cummings, Misty Croslin and Donna Broch could receive a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in state prison. The others can receive minimum sentences ranging from three years to 15 years in state prison.

Ronald Cummings is the father of Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared in early 2009 and has not been found. Misty Croslin, who was the last person to see Haleigh before she disappeared, later married Ronald, but the two divorced months later.

When Ronald first took the kids and was headed to Mexico for vacation I still think it was to purchase drugs and he was using Haleigh and Jr. not to look obvious.

PALAKTA, FL -- The arrests of the father and former step-mother of missing 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings have provided investigators an opportunity to question them about the little girl's disappearance. 

Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin were arrested Wednesday night following a drug bust by several law enforcement agencies.

A total of five people were arrested after a month-long investigation. All are being charged with trafficing the drugs Hydrocodon and Oxycodon.

Misty Croslin, the former step-mother of Haleigh, faces six charges. She is being held on $950,000 bond in the St. Johns County jail.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, is charged with three counts. He is also being held in St. Johns County on $500,000 bond.

Hank Croslin, Misty's brother, is charged with one count. Croslin is in the Putnam County jail on $100,000 bond.

Ronald's cousin, Hope Sykes was also arrested.

The investigation began after the Putnam County Sheriffs Office received a tip that the group was involved in drug trafficking.

A total of seven buys took place in both St. Johns and Putnam Counties.

The PCSO said that the arrests create an opportunity for investigators to talk to the group about the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings.

Deputies took Misty and Ronald to St. Johns County because the charges originate there.
