House OKs Internet Gambling Ban

Tuesday , July 11, 2006

WASHINGTON — The House passed legislation Tuesday that would prevent gamblers from using credit cards to bet online and could block access to gambling Web sites.

The legislation would clarify and update current law to spell out that most gambling is illegal online. But there would be exceptions — for state-run lotteries and horse racing — and passage isn't a safe bet in the Senate, where Republican leaders have not considered the measure a high priority.

The House voted 317-93 for the bill, which would allow authorities to work with Internet providers to block access to gambling Web sites.

Note:  Posner can't be very happy with this decision

If this passes the Senate there are going to be a lot of none to happy Caribbean countries.

The loss of tourism in Aruba will look like childs play coupled with this revenue stream.

I know a way around it... sorry

Tylergal - there's a good photo of the pond area they were draining in this thread.  It's the smaller pond area and if you look close, you can see the vehicles next to the water.

So it is just the Caribbean backed up and not really a pond and the more you drain, the more it fills, right?

That's what they said, but not sure I believe it.

Well it's a start to try and crack down on the on-line gambling... at least they are thinking.... and it will put a dent in the revenues, I hope!

I think it was Widget who told us with the downfall of Aruba, everyone was going to Costa Rica.  I guess that meant for on-line gambling as well. Wink

Time some of these third worlds learned to work for a living.  I am sure the ones who profit most from this are the have's and not the have not's.  It might turn these areas around if their gambling is shut down.  One can only hope.

Friad I think the only way any online gambling is gonna get shut down is for the source countries to do something about it.

Course the smarter source countries should be taxing the heck out of it.

Going back to what SunnyinTx stated about the body being on land versus water.

Suppose the body was being moved around but suppose Young Dompig was divulging what happened later, not at the time he stated it happened.

When the three amigoes were in the back of the police car, my hypothetical on that is that Satish & Deepak thought Natalee was still/on land or still where she was originally placed but cocky Joran knew she had been moved and was using that to taunt them, almost saying he knew she would not be found.  I think it is possible they buried her on land and moved her later to the water.  Pigs.  Every time I see them, I see in their faces the smurk of JR and I dislike all of them more and more.  She needs to be tarred-and-feathered, not that she does not already look like she has been...............

Oh no ... not at all!  But at least they are feeling the beginning of the edge of boycott... with the ritz.... and now the on-line gambling...

I also think she is on land somewhere... they tried so hard to make it look like she was in the water...

and maybe it's all because Red was down there digging with Dave, but I still say there was a reason that they kept doing stuff to the landfill... the fires, filling in the holes that were dug, and the fact that julia laughed so hard at them digging....
