Thanks JG.......that helps!

Over on the comments section at FCN, many that live in that area say the heli is up and LE and residents are all over the place searching, but it helps to get a "feel" of the area.

I am guessing there is no Amber Alert because there is no vehicle description of a possible abductor.

I am very upset about that if that is why no Amber Alert has been issued.  Light the signs up anyway!  A child is missing!

None of the reports mention whether the canines picked up a scent.

I hope Somer is found safe and sound.

Good night all.   an angelic monkey

I hear ya, dsntslp!

But here is what I have come up with:

What are the criteria for issuing AMBER Alerts?

Each state AMBER Alert plan has its own criteria for issuing AMBER Alerts. The PROTECT Act, passed in 2003, which established the role of AMBER Alert Coordinator within the Department of Justice (DOJ), calls for DOJ to issue minimum standards or guidelines for AMBER Alerts that states can adopt voluntarily. DOJ's guidance on criteria for issuing AMBER Alerts is:

    * Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place
    * The child is at risk of serious injury or death
    * There is sufficient descriptive information of child, captor, or captor's vehicle to issue an alert
    * The child must be 17 years old or younger
    * It is recommended that immediate entry of AMBER Alert data be entered in FBI's National Crime Information Center. Text information describing the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the child should be entered, and the case flagged as Child Abduction.

Most state's guidelines adhere closely to DOJ's recommended guidelines.

Here is info for Florida's criteria:

Criteria For Activation

To activate the alert the following five (5) criteria must be met.

   1. The child must be under 18 years of age.
   2. There must be a clear indication of an abduction.
   3. The law enforcement agency's investigation must conclude that the child's life is in danger.
   4. There must be a detailed description of child and/or abductor/vehicle to broadcast to the public (photo when available).
   5. The activation must be recommended by the local law enforcement agency of jurisdiction.

Note: Not to be used for Runaway
Steps For Activation

*The Amber alert can only be activated by law enforcement.
*The local law enforcement agency will call the FDLE Missing Children Information Clearinghouse (MCIC) at 1-888-356-4774.
*The FDLE will work in conjunction with the local law enforcement agency of jurisdiction to determine if information is to be broadcast on a regional or statewide basis.
*The FDLE working in conjunction with the local law enforcement agency of jurisdiction will prepare information (i.e., child, suspect and/or vehicle, contact information) for public distribution.
*The FDLE will ensure that the information is broadcast through the Emergency Alert System, Dynamic Message Signs, lottery machines, http://www.missingchildrenalert.com , and other resources.

Ty Brandi.

Yeah, that is where I got the info from too.

It just does not make sense not to light signs if they are not in use at this moment.

It needs to change, it just needs to change.

If I am not out searching tomorrow (hopefully she will be found) then I will be on the phone trying to figure out how to go about doing just that.  I am sure others have tried, but there has to be a way, there just has to.

http://www.news4jax.com/video/21344324/index.html

video goes into a little more detail and shows the house and the command center that has been set up......

The report says that there is a grid search being conducted with a 2-3 mile radius.

Investigators say this is a relatively SAFE neighborhood, and they are checking out the area's 53 RSO's.

There are several command centers set up.

I put these images together for those who cannot see the video:

Forgot to mention that in the video, the Sheriff said that the mother looked for Somer for 2½ hours before flagging down a patrol car around 5 PM.

I'd say that is a very long way to walk home-don't they have buses there? I'm less than one mile now from the school and we have a bus. We don't use it, but it's available

There's a 2 mile rule about children that can ride the bus......if they live within 2 miles of the school they cant ride........what a stupid rule,

From my research it's 4 tenths of a mile.

One minute drive by car according to google maps.

Many areas do not have school bus transportation for children unless they are over a mile away.
