Juvenile Court Official to Discuss Plans

We have new information tonight in the murder of nine year old Elizabeth Olten.

We've learned the suspect is a 15 year old girl and police served a search warrant to Olten's neighbor's house, just hours after finding the girl's body.  A person who lives in the area said the suspect lives at that house.
 
Court officials tell us a news conference is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss upcoming court appearances.  The hearings will determine if she will stay in custody and if she's going to be tried as an adult.
Jefferson City Public Schools also took action Monday with a special board meeting to address the recent tragedy.

The board immediately went into closed session, so we weren't allowed to listen to its conversations but in a brief interview afterwards the board said he had to be that way because its such a touchy subject.

The murder of Elizabeth Olten certainly grabbed this area's attention, but with so much information still unknown the rumor mill has really been turning.  The board said that's exactly why they wanted to meet.

Board President Doug Whitehead said, "We are very aware we have children to serve and that's one reason we wanted to talk today to make sure children and families understand the children are safe and that this is an isolated incident."

The board also talked about the changes to not only the victim's school, but all schools district wide.  Superintendent Brian Mitchell said, "We're providing additional counseling services trying to take care of all the needs of kids and families the best we can." 

 We checked with Jefferson City Schools once the school day was over and spokesman David Luther said they didn't keep track of how many kids were coming in for counseling, but said they had plenty of people on hand to help.  He said they had councilors from all over the state offering to help if needed.

Service Today for Slain Girl


(Jefferson City, MO) -- A memorial service and visitation have been set for the nine year-old Missouri girl who was found dead last Friday.

Visitation for Elizabeth Olten is today at 4:00 pm at a funeral home in Jefferson City.

Memorial services are tomorrow at Concord Baptist Church.
Both are open to the public.

Cole County authorities filed a petition to charge a 15-year old with first-degree murder in Olten's death.
She went missing last Wednesday.

Not sure.  I was reading that the school district had a big reshuffling as there have been many issues, task forces came up with recommendations, etc.  Could be related.

Nope.  In juvi custody. There is a presser today that they are discussing options.  They have said they are doing a evaluation of her to determine if she can go to adult court. No cout date for at least 30 days I believe they said until all the evaluations are completed.  That could change once we hear what they said in the presser.

She has not be arraigned, as far as I know. They are being very secretive.
