Olten's body found

Cole County authorities are looking for 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten who was reported missing Wednesday evening.

Elizabeth Olten, missing since Wednesday night, was found dead Friday.

Authorities announced that her body had been recovered in a heavily wooded area. This is an area that they have been searching since Wednesday.

Through physical evidence and some written evidence, officials said at a 3 p.m. news briefing, they determined a person of interest.

That person was interviewed and then led officials to the body.

A juvenile, apparently a friend of Elizabeth's, is involved in the case.

No other details were available immediately, and the case remains under investigation.

A juvenile can be someone as old as 17....I guess we will wait and see.

I am not familiar with Jasmine's case.  Someone earlier said there was a thread for her here.  Your answers may be in there.

Police find the body of missing 9-year-old

ST. MARTINS, MO. -- Police found the body of 9-year-old who went missing Wednesday night.

Elizabeth Olten, a fourth grader from this rural Missouri area about 35 miles south of Columbia, was reported missing when she failed to return home from a friend’s.

The body was found miles near her home.

A written note by an unidentified person lead police to an person of interest. That person lead the police to Elizabeth's body.

Police have an older teen in custody.

The juvenile is local to the area and is not connected to the family.

There was search crew of 70 people was on the ground in addition to 70 law enforcement officers on Friday. Officials said the search will be more "pin-pointed and directed," than it was Thursday. Also, the Missouri Highway Patrol is using a helicopter with infrared imaging equipment to assist with the search.

When Olten was reported missing Wednesday evening just after 6 p.m., authorities learned that she had a cell phone with her.

Investigators worked with the phone carrier AT&T to send “pings” to the phone in an attempt to locate it. The “ping” put the cell phone in the woods behind Elizabeth’s home. However, by Thursday afternoon, the pings were no longer working. Police believe that the phone battery had died.

White also said the department has some phone records back from Elizabeth's cell phone and investigators are going through those.

This is just too much that a child killed a child.  I don't even know what to think right now.  I was really hoping they would find her.

All I can say now is, give the family strength, and the person they have in custody...make this simple...do the right thing, and give your family closure too.

Missing Cole County Missouri Girl Found Murdered

ST. MARTINS, Mo. (AP) - Police in mid-Missouri say they have recovered the body of a missing 9-year-old girl and have a juvenile "person of interest" in custody. Cole County Sheriff Greg White told reporters Friday that the person of interest and Elizabeth Olten were acquainted.

White would not give any details about the person of interest except to say the individual lived in the area west of Jefferson City and was older than Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had last been seen when she started walking home from a neighbor's house on Wednesday.
