There is a definite pall over this area. It's felt like that since last week. The constant grey and rain isn't helping.

The powers that be in town are in full scramble mode. JC is notorious for the local politics resembling a game of 3 card monty.

I'd go so far to say that the name of the suspect is near common knowledge locally by now.

The idiot at the local juvenile facility is already talking to reporters about counseling and such. If it wasn't a female I suspect that would not be the case.
It just chaps my @ss frankly.

I suspect once the circumstances of the case and the ID of the suspect are revealed there is going to be a huge spotlight aimed at JC.
What they find ain't gonna be pretty. 

I have found many similar comments posted with new articles. They range from the Prosecutor is the worst lawyer in the state, the Juvenile court person is already talking about rehabilitation and house arrest as there are only 40 beds in the long term facility, there was huge fight involving two highschools end of last year that was swept under the rug, meth issues in the area, and that the family is prominent and politically it would not help the powers that be to be hard on them.  I am hoping all these are just squeaky wheels but with so many I don;t know anymore.

COLE COUNTY -- Update Monday 8:50 a.m.:

The Jefferson City School Board will meet Monday morning to discuss handling of the death of Elizabeth Olten. The meeting is at 10 a.m.

Funeral services for the 9 year-old will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Concord Baptist Church.

Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

Elizabeth will be taken in a horse drawn carriage to Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Missouri Missing in memory of Elizabeth Olten.

Jeff City School Officials to Discuss Olten Death

Jefferson City schools officials were scheduled Monday to meet in closed session to discuss the death of one of the district's students.

Elizabeth Olten, 9, was reported missing from St. Martins Wednesday night. After a two-day effort by emergency crews and volunteers to find her, the girl was found dead Friday.

The Jefferson City Board of Education has scheduled a meeting Monday morning at 10 a.m. The only item on the agenda is a "discussion of student matters in light of recent tragic events."

A spokesman for the Jefferson City school district said the meeting would be closed to the public because students' information likely would be discussed.

Prosecutors have charged a juvenile with first-degree murder in the death of Elizabeth, but few other details have been released. Investigators in the case have said they don't want to jeopardize the prosecution of the person allegedly responsible for her death.

Funeral Services Planned for Olten

Funeral services are now planned for Elizabeth Olten.

The body of the 9-year-old girl was found Friday in the woods behind her St. Martins home.

A wake will be Tuesday from 4-8p.m. at the Hauser-Millard funeral home in Jefferson City.

A funeral will be at 2p.m. Wednesday at the Concord Baptist Church.

Olten's body will be transported by a horse drawn carriage from the church to the Hawthorne Memorial Gardens Cemetary after the service.

A spokesperson for the family said they have turned their attention away from the investigation and are remembering Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, the Jefferson City public school board will meet  Monday.

A spokesperson for the district says the board will be discussing student matters in light of her death.

ABC 17 News is still waiting to hear more details about the investigation, but first a hearing to determine if the 15-year old juvenile will be tried as an adult must happen.

As of now, that hearing has not been scheduled.

They are completely freaking out.

that is true, Fannie.  Especially if the judge declines to charge as an adult.

These people, tho, sound like they are about to get ropes and string up the entire family!  I have to wonder how much is truth and how much is anger.

Police have not released gender or name.

JMO There is too much smoke not to really be a fire. This is a very small place. EVERYONE there knows exactly who it is. I cannot help but think of Lindsay Baums thread, and wonder why there was not the same outcry there in McCleary and Grays County Washington. Sorry, I am not feeling well this morning and these cases are grinding me down.

I will say this, I don't feel very confident that the perp is going to get the proper punishment  Sure hope I am wrong.

especially if she is the girl that has been described as: tiny, cute etc...
she will get sympathy from some just on those traits alone..not fair, but I can see a juror feeling sorry for her if she gets all weepy etc...jmo...
