EUFAULA, OK -- A mother, father and six-year old girl haven't been seen in nearly two weeks and authorities in Latimer and McIntosh counties fear the worst.

The family is from Eufaula. Their pickup truck was found near Red Oak last Saturday.

10/20/2009 Related Story: Authorities Search For Missing Eufaula Family

The FBI, OSBI, and a number of state agencies are working on this case, but authorities are worried about the family of three who disappeared in such a tough part of the countryside. Panola Mountain sits in rural Latimer County, covered with trees and surrounded by grasslands.

"It's only 6.5 miles from Red Oak," Sheriff Isreal Beauchamp, Latimer County.

It's where Sheriff Isreal Beauchamp is trying to solve a mystery. He's looking for Bobby Jamison, his wife Sherilynn, and their daughter Madyson. The family was last seen October 9th near Red Oak. They were looking to buy 40 acres of land.

Eight days later their truck was found by hunters. Inside the truck was their small dog, malnourished and in bad shape, according to the sheriff. The dog has since recovered.

Also inside the truck were their IDs, wallets and a substantial amount of cash.

"It didn't look like to me that they got out and walked, it just looked like they got out and that was it. They didn't take their coats, it was kind of cold that day, they didn't take their cell phones, of course they didn't take their dog," said Sheriff Beauchamp.

Sheriff Beauchamp says investigators have looked into the Jamison's past and there doesn't appear to be any signs that they were in trouble or looking to start a new life. He says there's no obvious reason why they disappeared.

For the last several days searchers have tracked through the countryside, but dense trees and hilly terrain have made the search very difficult.

"You know triple canopy, a lot of woods. There are trails, four-wheeler trails, walking trails, game trails but, for the most part, pretty rugged," said Sheriff Beauchamp.

A large search of more than 100 men and women, including horses, a helicopter, and a plane, is scheduled for Friday, but the sheriff is worried about the forecast of rainy weather.

    * Madyson Jamison is 6-years-old, has blonde hair and has missing baby teeth in the front of her mouth.

Eufaula family remains missing in rugged countryside of southeast Oklahoma

EUFAULA, Ok. - Searchers tomorrow begin combing through a rugged area of southeast Oklahoma to find a family of three. Bobby Jamison and his wife, Sherilynn Jamison, and their 6-year old daughter, Madyson, have not been seen since October 9th. Latimer County Sheriff Isreal Beauchamp says the Panola Mountain area near Red Oak has dense trees and hilly terrain that make the search difficult. Beauchamp says, "You know, triple canopy, a lot of woods. There are trails, four-wheeler trails, walking trails, game trails, but for the most part, pretty rugged." He says eight days after they disappeared on October 9th hunters found the Jamison's truck containing their dog, which was still alive, their wallets and I-D's and a large amount of cash still inside.

Authorities seek clues in search for Eufaula family
Eufaula couple, daughter were last seen Oct. 8

Published: October 22, 2009

RED OAK — A Eufaula family whose pickup was found abandoned in Latimer County with their phones, IDs, money, coats and barely alive dog inside has been missing for two weeks.

Latimer County officials ask anyone with information about the Jamison family’s whereabouts to call the Latimer County sheriff’s office at (918) 465-2161.

The three members of the Jamison family — Bobby Dale, 44, Sherrilynn, 40, and Madyson, 6, — were last seen Oct. 8, Latimer County Undersheriff Matt Bohn said Wednesday.

The family’s pickup was found Saturday in a rural area near an oil property about 30 miles from their home, and the amount of money inside the vehicle was "substantial,” Bohn said.

A starving small black-and-white dog was found inside the vehicle when sheriff’s deputies went to investigate.

"It appeared it had been in the truck for a long time,” Bohn said.

Police, fire and highway patrol crews, along with several volunteers, began a search Saturday. Six dog teams joined the search Sunday, but nothing other than the pickup was found, said the undersheriff.

A search of the area near the pickup was suspended Monday while officials considered other ways to try and find the Jamisons, but small groups of people familiar with the terrain continued to look for evidence, Bohn said. Another full-scale search is scheduled for Friday, but authorities have few leads.

Bobby Jamison is 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs about 170 pounds and has brown hair and eyes, Bohn said. Sherrilynn Jamison is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 105 pounds and also has brown hair and eyes. Madyson has blond hair.

Bobby Jamison took out a protective order against his father, Bobby Dean Jamison, in May, but Bohn said it has been dismissed and appears unrelated to the disappearance of the younger Jamison and his family.

Hi Cookie...that is what I heard as well. I am glad TES is going. They are really experts in this rugged type of environment.

Search For Missing Family Turns Up New Clue
POSTED: 10:28 pm CDT October 23, 2009
UPDATED: 11:01 pm CDT October 23, 2009

RED OAK, Oklahoma -- On Friday, Latimer County investigators found what could be a key piece of evidence in the case of a missing Oklahoma family.

The only sign of Bobby and Sherilynn Jamison and their 6-year-old daughter Madyson was their abandoned truck discovered Oct. 17 near the Panola Mountains.

Inside the Latimer County sheriff's department found money, coats, cell phones and the family's dog.

During a search on Friday, investigators found a pocket knife. Sheriff Israel Beauchamp said pictures of the knife would be shown to the Jamison's family members to determine if it was a knife the couple owned.

Beauchamp said the search for the family would conclude Friday evening and would not resume unless new evidence or leads come into the sheriff's department.

Beauchamp said an FBI agent will remain on the investigation team since a missing child is involved.

Search for Eufaula family picks up to beat dangers of hunting season

RED OAK — The search for a missing Eufaula family is racing the clock with black-powder hunting season beginning on Saturday, Latimer County Undersheriff Matt Bohn said Thursday.

How to help
Anyone with information about the Jamison family’s disappearance is asked to contact the Latimer County Sheriff’s Office at (918) 465-2161.

"That will just about make it too risky to be out there searching after that,” Undersheriff Matt Bohn said.

A hunter found the GMC pickup of Bobby and Sherrilynn Jamison and their 6-year-old daughter, Madyson, about 30 miles from their home on Saturday and alerted a nearby landowner, Bohn said.

The landowner then remembered seeing the white pickup with a yellow flashing light on top on Oct. 9 and called the sheriff’s office.

Bohn said Jamison bought a used utility truck, and the yellow light is not connected to his livelihood.

The family’s disappearance is a mystery with rumors and theories circulating, Bohn said, but the sheriff’s office has not ruled out anything.

About 100 searchers this morning will comb through the sometimes unforgiving Panola Mountain area near where the pickup was found, while helicopters and a plane search from above, Bohn said.

"It’s very rugged terrain,” Bohn said.

"There’s timber, rocks, snakes, hogs, mountains and dense underbrush here and there.”

The sheriff’s office is working with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, firefighters, emergency management officials, and search and rescue teams. Untrained volunteers are being asked to stay home, Bohn said.

"We’re only using trained searchers and people who are familiar with the area,” Bohn said.

"We don’t need someone else getting lost or hurt so we have to have two searches going on.”

The sheriff’s office has already conducted searches in the area including some using dogs, but today’s push is going to be a larger, more concentrated effort, Bohn said.

Loved Ones Speak Out On Search For Missing Eufaula Family
Updated: Oct 24, 2009 10:11 PM EDT

LATIMER COUNTY -- Another search of a Green Country mountainside Saturday didn't turn up any new clues in the disappearance of a missing Eufaula family.

Bobby and Sherilynn Jamison and their six-year-old daughter, Madyson, haven't been seen since October 9th.

As investigators continue looking for leads, the family's loved ones are getting more and more worried.

"I hate the fact knowing that we might all end up going to funerals, but if that's God's plan, then that's God's plan," said Charla Heffley, Bob Jamison's cousin.

Volunteers have spent the past two days scouring Panola Mountain in rural Latimer County, where the family's abandoned truck was found.

"A lot of worry, wondering if they're still alive, wondering why they can't find them. I'm just praying to God, to everybody, that they are alive and that they can come back home," said Connie Kokotan, Sherilynn Jamison's mother.

Kokotan says her daughter's family loved the outdoors and the Latimer County sheriff says they were looking to buy 40 acres of land in the area where they disappeared.

Kokotan also says investigators are looking for a man who lived with the family last summer in their Eufaula home.

"Nothing makes sense. I don't even understand why they were up that far, away from their home," said Connie Kokotan.

The sheriff says that part of the county is very dangerous, with rocky terrain and thick trees. It's very easy to get lost.

Kokotan is praying her daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law are simply somewhere else and hopes someone, somewhere, has that crucial bit of information that will solve the mystery.

"I can't understand why this has happened to them and I'm hoping that they can be returned safely home," said Connie Kokotan.

Saturday marked the beginning of the black-powder deer hunting season and the sheriff says that will make it even more dangerous for search crews to look in the mountain.

Officials: Search for missing family from Eufaula scaled back

By AP Wire Services

Last Modified: 10/25/2009  2:35 AM

RED OAK (AP) — The search for a missing Eufaula family continued Saturday in southeastern Oklahoma, but the size of the search party was scaled back.

The Latimer County Sheriff's Office said Saturday's search was limited to a select number of ground personnel working with aerial searchers.

Bobby Dale Jamison, his wife, Sherrilynn, and their 6-year-old daughter, Madyson, have been missing for about two weeks. Latimer County Sheriff Israel Beauchamp launched a search for the family when their pickup truck was found in the Red Oak Mountain area Oct. 17, eight days after a resident remembered seeing the family.

The pickup was parked at a well site, about 30 miles from the family's Eufaula home. Inside the pickup, investigators found Bobby Dale Jamison's wallet, Sherrilynn Jamison's purse, maps, a GPS device, a substantial amount of cash and a cell phone last used Oct. 8.

Beauchamp said the family had gone to look at a couple of 40-acre plots of land for possible purchase and that they apparently planned to move a shipping container to the secluded mountain area and live there.

Mud-slicked roads made search conditions treacherous Friday, and Beauchamp said he planned to scale back the search Saturday, the first day of black-powder deer hunting season, because it would be too dangerous to have crews searching heavily wooded areas.

Beauchamp said he was not ready to call the search a "recovery" effort for bodies, but as the days have turned into weeks, some searchers have begun to prepare themselves for the worst.

Monty Jackson, a searcher and former state forester, said he doesn't make assumptions about what has happened or what he expects to find.

"We'll just look and see if we can find some clues," Jackson said. "It's hard to say what's going to happen."

Beauchamp said thick foliage and windy conditions also hampered air searches.

Hunter fatally shot in Latimer County accident; charges could come
Men didn’t have licenses, official says

GOWEN — A deer hunter was fatally shot in a Latimer County accident that occurred less than 24 hours after Sheriff Israel Beauchamp, citing the onset of hunting season, greatly reduced the number of people searching for a missing Eufaula family.

The shooting happened 25 miles from where the missing family’s pickup was found.

John A Morgan, 44, was shot and killed by Jack Zearley, 69, while they were hunting deer about 6 p.m. Saturday in the Gowen Mountain area, Beauchamp said.

"I would hope that this shows how dangerous it can be out there,” Beauchamp said. "We haven’t called off the search. The search is still going on. But we don’t have mass individuals out there walking around in the woods aimlessly anymore. We can’t afford to have anybody else shot.”

County and state officials are searching for Bobby and Sherrilynn Jamison and their daughter, Madyson, 6, of Eufaula, who were last seen more than two weeks ago in the Red Oak Mountain area.

Beauchamp said while the Saturday shooting appears to have been accidental, the two Hartshorne men were hunting illegally when Zearley fired a high-powered rifle at a deer that was between the two men. The shot struck Morgan.

When he realized his friend was shot, Beauchamp said, Zearley left the younger man on the mountain and drove to the police station to report the accident.

Zearley said his friend already was dead when he left him, but Beauchamp said investigators haven’t been able to verify that.

Because the accident involved a high-powered rifle instead of a muzzle loader, the men weren’t wearing hunter orange safety clothing and neither man had a hunting license, the incident could result in criminal charges once the information is presented to the district attorney, he said.

The state medical examiner’s office said Morgan died from a gunshot wound to the chest. His death was officially ruled a homicide. Zearley was not arrested

EUFAULA — A national group that helps look for missing children is joining the search for a missing family from the Eufaula area.

Six-year-old Madyson Jamison, her father Bobby and mother Sherilynn have been missing since Oct. 7.

Latimer County Sheriff Israel Beauchamp says the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is offering its help. The center has placed Madyson Jamison's photo and information about her on its Web site.

A media representative for the center, which is based near Washington D.C. in Alexandria, Va., said the photos are rotated throughout the day, but information can be pulled up by conducting a search on the Web site.

The family's pickup truck was found Oct. 17 after hunters reported it had been sitting by the side of the road for some time with a small dog inside. A large amount of cash was found inside the truck.

RED OAK – The Latimer County sheriff’s office announced Friday that the department is scaling back its ground search for a missing Eufaula family.

Bobby and Sherrilynn Jamison and their daughter, Madyson, 6, were last seen Oct. 9. Their pickup was found Oct. 17 near Red Oak, the sheriff’s department said. It contained the family’s dog, cell phones, clothing, cash and other items that make it appear the family was planning to return to the vehicle.

Since Oct. 17, the sheriff’s department has used aircraft with heat imaging devices, horse teams and 18 search dogs to comb the rugged terrain looking for the family. More than 300 volunteers and dozens of law enforcement officers have searched a 10-square-mile area but have found no signs of the family.

Sheriff Israel Beauchamp said there were no new developments but law officers were working around the clock looking for the missing family.

"After careful consideration, the decision has been made to scale back on ground search efforts but will continue on a smaller scale … until the Jamison family is found,” Beauchamp said in a prepared statement.

Anyone who has information on the family’s whereabouts or other information pertaining to the case is asked to call the Latimer County sheriff’s office at (918) 465-2161

Ground search called off for missing family

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — After nearly two weeks of combing the heavily wooded Sans Bois Mountain area in southeast Oklahoma, the Latimer County Sheriff’s Office on Friday called off its ground search for a missing Eufaula family.

Investigators still are pursuing leads in the disappearance of Bobby Dale Jamison, 44, his wife Sherrilyn, 40, and the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Madyson, but Sheriff Israel Beauchamp (BEE-chum) said no clues turned up in the search of the area so it’s being halted.

“If we get anything that leads us back out there, we’ll be back out there searching,” Beauchamp said. “But we’ve exhausted our resources and the few clues we did have.”

The Jamisons were last seen by a landowner in the Red Oak area on Oct. 8. A search was launched Oct. 17 after hunters came across the family’s pickup truck at a remote well pad site near a 40-acre plot they were considering buying, Beauchamp said.

Investigators found a wallet, purse, cell phones, a large amount of cash and Madyson’s small dog inside the truck. It appeared to authorities that the family had planned to return to the vehicle, and there were no signs of foul play.

Beauchamp said an extensive air and ground search involving more than 300 volunteers and dozens of law enforcement officers uncovered no signs of the family.

“It seems like they just stepped outside of their vehicle and disappeared,” he said.

While Beauchamp said his office and other agencies still are actively working the case, he acknowledged it is unlikely the family could have survived this long in the rugged terrain.

He said heavy rains hit the area during the time the family went missing, but that even rain-swollen creeks on the mountain would not be strong enough to sweep away the adults.

Beauchamp said both Bobby and Sherrilyn Jamison are disabled and do not work. He said Bobby Jamison was injured in a car accident, but he declined to elaborate on Sherrilyn Jamison’s disability.

The family often traveled to time-share units around the country, he said. They were originally from the Oklahoma City area, but had recently moved to Eufaula.

Family members of the Jamisons did not immediately return phone calls to The Associated Press for comment Friday.

Bobby Dale Jamison filed a civil lawsuit in Oklahoma County against his father, Bobby Dean Jamison, earlier this year in a dispute over ownership of a gas station in Oklahoma City. In the lawsuit, which is still pending, Bobby Dale Jamison alleges his father threatened his family.

The father denied those claims in a legal filing. Neither he nor his attorney immediately returned phone calls to the AP for comment Friday.

Beauchamp said he’s interviewed the father and doesn’t believe the court dispute has anything to do with the family’s disappearance.

“Nothing is leading us in that direction,” the sheriff said. “But at this time, we’re leaving everything open.”

Interesting pieces of information:

"Bobby Jamison took out a protective order against his father, Bobby Dean Jamison, in May, but Bohn said it has been dismissed and appears unrelated to the disappearance of the younger Jamison and his family."

<snip>

Investigators found a wallet, purse, cell phones, a large amount of cash and Madyson’s small dog inside the truck. It appeared to authorities that the family had planned to return to the vehicle, and there were no signs of foul play.

.... if only dogs could talk out loud... the lil dog found starving in the truck might have plenty to say about what happened to the family.  It would be interesting to me to see the reaction of that lil dog now, to say, the older Jamison.  Would the lil dog be all 'waggity wag wag' of the tail in a 'so happy to see you!' kind of way... or would the lil dog, for example, be on the alert and growly as in 'how dare you leave me to starve, you SOB, and gimme back my family!'

Just some thoughts.  All IMO.
