Looks like the SA meant it when they said they weren't done with Harrell yet.  Interesting to note that his mother talks so confidently to him about things yet she didn't do anything in the way of getting him an attorney - I mean he sat in Mississippi for 10 days.  It will be music to my ears to hear they have everything they need to charge him with the murder of Somer.  He is worthless and deserves the DP.

(5)  LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS MOLESTATION.--

(a)  A person who intentionally touches in a lewd or lascivious manner the breasts, genitals, genital area, or buttocks, or the clothing covering them, of a person less than 16 years of age, or forces or entices a person under 16 years of age to so touch the perpetrator, commits lewd or lascivious molestation.

(b)  An offender 18 years of age or older who commits lewd or lascivious molestation against a victim less than 12 years of age commits a life felony, punishable as provided in s. 775.082(3)(a)4.

(c)1.  An offender less than 18 years of age who commits lewd or lascivious molestation against a victim less than 12 years of age; or

2.  An offender 18 years of age or older who commits lewd or lascivious molestation against a victim 12 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age

commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

(d)  An offender less than 18 years of age who commits lewd or lascivious molestation against a victim 12 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

CLAY COUNTY  Jarred Harrell, who has been named as a person of interest in Somer Thompson's October, 2009 murder in Orange Park, Florida, and who was returned to Clay County on Feb. 23 to face child pornography possession charges, now must confront "even more serious" charges announced after his Feb. 24 early morning court appearance in the northeast Florida, Jacksonville suburb.

According to documents received by True Crime Examiner, Clay County police have charged Harrell with "an additional arrest and booking ... that involve production of child pornography (12 counts that represent 12 separate images of a child) and molestation of that child," advises the agency's public information officer, Mary Justino.

Justino states that Florida law " ... prohibits the release of any information that in any way identifies the victim of a sex crime ... " adding that " ... every precaution available under this law has been taken to protect the victim's identity ... including relationship to suspect ... in this additional case."

Harrell's new charges unrelated to Somer Thompson case, says spokesperson

The Clay County Sheriff's Office spokesperson adds, " ... we do want to make clear to the media and to our community that these new charges do not involve Somer Thompson."

Harrell is slated for an additional Clay County court appearance on Feb. 25; he is being denied bond on these additional charges.

The suspect's Feb. 24 Affidavit for Arrest Warrant was signed by Detective Fred Eckert, Special Victims Unit, Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Harrell's million-dollar-plus bond amount includes court fee

When asked by True Crime Examiner what the $3.00 in Harrell's initial $1,000,003.00 bond reflects, police spokesperson Mary Justino replied, "The $3 is a court-assessed clerical fee ... and all our bonds include that."

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A man considered a person of interest in the slaying of a 7-year-old Florida girl is facing child molestation and more pornography charges in a separate case.

Jarred Mitchell Harrell is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Clay County sheriff's officials say the 24-year-old was charged Wednesday with child molestation and 12 counts of the production of child pornography

Harrell had already been charged with 29 counts of possession of child pornography.

Authorities plan to question him about the death of Somer Thompson, who disappeared in October while walking home from school in a Jacksonville suburb. Her body was found in a south Georgia landfill two days later.

He was extradited from Mississippi this week and is being held without bond in Clay County.

Jarred Mitchell Harrell appeared before a Clay County judge this morning for the second time in two days, this time on charges of molesting a young child and 12 counts of child pornography.

County Judge Richard Townsend returned Harrell to the Clay County jail without bail on the charges, lewd and lascivious conduct on a child younger than 12 and producing child pornography. Authorities served the new arrest warrant on Harrell on Wednesday, a few hours after he faced Townsend on 29 counts of child pornography.

Harrell was returned to the Clay jail on $1 million bail in the first case.

One thing that appeared different about Harrell today is that he was wearing a thick, smock-like body cover designed to prevent inmates from ripping any clothing they are wearing to commit suicide. Harrell is being held in isolation in the jail.

Townsend scheduled arraignments for Harrell on March 10.

Harrell, 24, has also been named a person of interest in the Oct. 19 disappearance and slaying of Somer Thompson, 7, but he has not been charged in that case.

Child molestation charge added to Harrell counts

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Jarred Harrell, named as a person of interest in the Somer Thompson abduction and slaying, is facing additional child pornography charges and is now accused of molesting a child.

Harrell, 24, made his second initial appearance in two days on Thursday, Feb. 25, in a Clay County courtroom on the new charges.

He was already charged with 29 counts of possessing child pornography, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office announced that Harrell was facing 12 additional counts that involve production of child pornography as well as the lewd and lascivious molestation charge that involves a child under 12 years old.

“These new charges are even more serious than the possession of child pornography charges he already faces,” said Mary Justino, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Harrell appeared in court early Wednesday for an initial hearing on the original 29 counts of possession of child pornography. He will formally arraigned on those charges at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, before Judge John Skinner.

Harrell, who lived in a Gano Avenue home at the time Somer Thompson disappeared in October, has not be charged in connection with her killing.

Federal marshals arrested Harrell, an unemployed laborer who lists Callahan as his last address, on Thursday, Feb. 11 in Meridian, Miss. He refused to grant extradition, so Clay County authorities had to go through the extradition process that involved the governors’ offices in Florida and Mississippi.

That process was completed when he arrived at the Clay County Jail early Wednesday, Feb. 24. He is being held on $1 million bail on the original charges but without bond on the second set of charges.

The child pornography charges stem from an incident last August, when, according to a police report, two of Harrell’s former roommates at a Wells Road apartment complex told police they found graphic images of children on his computer.

Police believe Harrell spent at least some time living with his mother at 1152 Gano Ave., which is near a vacant house at 1080 Gano Ave. that federal and state investigators scoured for forensic evidence shortly after Somer’s disappearance. The second house also has been examined for evidence.

Both dwellings are along the route Somer used to walk home from Grove Park Elementary School. She was last seen near the vacant house after running ahead of her two siblings as they walked home from school on Monday, Oct. 19. The first-grader’s body was found at a south Georgia landfill two days later.

The images on Harrell’s computer weren’t processed until after Thompson’s death, and Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler has refused to discuss details of the case. He has, however, defended accusations that detectives took too much time handling the child pornography charges.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell appeared again in court Thursday morning, but wore a different outfit than the one he had on Wednesday.

Instead of the traditional stripped jumpsuit most inmates wear, Harrell had on a green protective suit.

When questioned by reporters, a sheriff's deputy in court said it is commonly worn by inmates to protect themselves.

A representative from the state attorney's office says he has seen the outfit used most often for inmates who are suicidal, although no one would say if this is the case with Harrell.

Harrell is facing 12 counts of producing child porn and one count of child molestation. That's in addition to the 29 counts of possessing child porn he's already charged with.

Harrell only said four words. When Judge Richard Townsend asked Harrell if he had any questions, Harrell replied "No sir."

When asked if he understood his rights, Harrell said "Yes sir."

Harrell's arraignment on all charges remains March 10 at 9 a.m.

The Justice Coalition spokeswoman was there on Wednesday on behalf of Somer Thompson's family.

"They're waiting on answers for a baby that was not only brutally murdered but also thrown in the trash," Ann Dugger said.
