My sister, 12 mo older than myself, as an 8 yr old child was a close call to being a statistic. We were playing together on the sidewalk in a southern city where we had just moved. A nice friendly man stopped and talked my sister to coming with him to meet his little girl. And off they went- - - -. I had no idea what was going on as I had not been clued in. Some time later, my sister miraculously reappeared! She had broken loose from him. Her surroundings were brand new and she did not know her way around this urban setting, as we were only used to very rural places. We both had a big talking to. My own children got big talkings to, and now it's my grandchild who gets the talking to. It's amazing how clueless little ones are, and these lessons need to be reiterated constantly.
In my own case, my recollections are vivid. It's a hard message to make children afraid of strangers. Really, they do not have to be strangers, it could be one's best friend's uncle, which was a later sequel to my street education. My mother was sick, and father did not bother to come home, so my sister and I pretty much were on our own. But our collective experiences, sister with stranger, myself with best friend's uncle, taught us big lessons. We were indeed fortunate in coming to our senses in time.

Sorry, just noticed that was your first post!
Welcome to the cage!
Thanks for the welcome. I've lurked off and on but this case is just too close to home. I'm in Jacksonville but my doctor's office is on Debarry so I've driven thru Somer's neighborhood for years. It is just so sickening that anyone could harm a child.
The Florida Times Union article I linked to has apparently resulted in the reporter being bombarded with questions from around the world as to the possible connection between the unsolved 1974-75 cases and Somer's murder. He doesn't seem to think they are connected since the time frame is so long.

I just wish LE had more information for us by now about the killer(s.)
It's been way too quiet this week.

Hello and welcome to Scared Monkeys
It really is sickening that anyone could harm a child. I hope that even if there isn't a connection between the unsolved cases 1974-1975 in the Florida Times Union article you linked to isn't connected to Somer's murder, perhaps there will be some good from it all, because it will give more exposure to the unsolved cases, and perhaps a fresh look or someone's memory or conscience being jogged will help solve a case or cases. I pray there will be justice for Somer soon.

Welcome all new members.
I'm just checking to see if anyone has been locked away for this heinous crime yet, but I see that there has not.

Thank you for the link to the story about the other abductions. I am not sure what to think with this case. Seemed like it would be easily solved but apparently I was wrong.
One thing I noticed today as I was picking up my children from their school. It is in a middle of a neighborhood just like Somers school is. I drive my kids but at this school, as amazing as it sounds, most of the kids walk. Around the school, there are swarms of kids walking each day. Some of the moms and dad's meet their children around the corner, I suppose so they wont get stuck in traffic? anyway, so there are cars parked, kids walking, cars leaving, it is sort of crazy. I wonder if it was the same that day. I commented before on how I could see Somer getting lost in a crowd, but I also wonder if someone could have grabbed her and it go unnoticed? I think it could happen.
So if it wasn't the house, although I am not truly convinced of that, was it someone parked in a car? Someone at another home? Someone walking a pet or looking for a lost one? How and who took this little girl? I suppose that is the million dollar question....

Help Catch A Child Killer This Saturday On FOX. 9/8 c
http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=69151
"The home at 1080 Gano Ave.in Orange Park, Fla. is only 500-600 yards from Grove Park Elementary where Somer was in the second grade.
There had been a fire at the house and workers were there remodeling it. The workers said
Somer walked inside the fence around the home and even spoke to them
.
But then, they say, she left. That was the last known siting of Somer alive"

I wish we knew the names of the workers that were working on the house that day, and who exactly she spoke to. I wonder if she really left on her own? I don't think so.

"No suspects and no POI". They showed an artist rendition of the book bag that looks more like a tote, and the lunch box.

Did they finish looking through the trash from all trucks who dumped trash from that area to look for those items? I mean the person could have dumped somer in one dumpster then threw her backpack and lunchbox in a regular tash can or another dumpster after the fact.
