now i know why the rumors of the grandparents being uncooperative started.  they pretty much took her to the mental hospital so it made it much harder for authorities to locate and question her.

if it was innocence on the part of the grandparents, I struggle to understand how that can be.

Doesn't take much to connect the dots - it's not like a 9 year old goes missing walking home from their house every day...

After questioning her, investigators said she walked them into the woods and showed them where Elizabeth's body was buried - in the grave she reportedly dug exactly one week before

one week before the murder or one week before from the day she took them to her body (I always thought she dug the grave on Friday)

Also, as far as the grandparents are concerned, it is possible that they "had a feeling" she was involved, but Alyssa wouldn't tell them anything so they threatened her with "we are taking you to the nuthouse unless you tell us if you know something".  She refused, they took her, at nut house, she confesses or reveals something, nut house calls LE, etc etc...............just a possibility.  It would be very hard to turn in someone you love without them actually saying outloud that they knew something.  You would want to make very sure they were involved before you called them out.  I am not saying I agree with what they did AT ALL, just saying, that's a possibility.....

you could be right that it happened that way, but my opinion is that they really dropped the ball.

A child was missing, a family extremely distraught, a town in chaos, helicopters, search dogs, cops from different agencies brought in....

If it turns out that they had sufficient evidence that their granddaughter was involved in the disappearance of Elizabeth Olten, I would hope that Elizabeth's family sues them in a civil court for the pain and suffering that they caused by not coming forward immediately.

Because the case went through the grand jury, no probable cause statement was filed with the circuit clerk's office as normally would occur with charges filed directly by the prosecutor.
This bothers me, the only reason they didn't file a probably cause statement was to keep info out of the media.....that's BS

Bustamante is the only person being charged in the murder, he said.
Hmmmmm, well, besides that being OBVIOUS, why mention it......there may be more to come on that one I'm sure

I get what you're saying about the possibilty that they wanted to make sure beforehand. My take on it is that they had  ALOT of history with Alyssa as far as her instability. The depression, the cutting, (somewhere it was mentioned about her prior internet activities according to the therapist statement), spending the nights in the woods on more than one oocasion and the big glaring suicide attempt when she was barely 13. If this is what WE KNOW then there has to be even more that we don't know and I just can't see how Grandma didn't see it that night knowing that Elizabeth was missing and frequented that house. Not to mention that the 6 year old was playing with Elizabeth that very day. How could she not know that? Even if Alyssa was supposed to babysit--how could grandma even trust Alyssa with that kind of history to watch a 6 year old? I don't know but to me taking her to the nut house that very night smacks of serious intent to hide something and they knew exactly what happened. If they had any kind of faith in Alyssa there would have been different behaviour.

I forgot to add ( i hate that I can't edit!) that Alyssa looks seriously drugged in that mugshot. Which makes me think that whatever happened at the hospital ended up in that they had to medicate her.

I think that mugshot was taken yesterday after she was ARRESTED.  I do believe before that she was just DETAINED, and therefore no mugshots were taken.

I believe that when she was taken into custody on October 23 and charged with murder, any booking documents would've been sealed with the juvenile court system.

The booking photo from yesterday, imo, shows her looking either drugged, or worn out from all of this.

She looks like she's getting a lot of experience in what it feels like to kill someone.
