So, JSM,  , who are we rooting for in the upcoming Olympics? I plan on scheduling my life around the skating competitions!
(Oh, and get to bed, Missy! You know your headache won't get better until you get some sleep. and don't worry about your step mom, she's getting the best possible care. Oh, and my onc doc said no the the port thingy...thinks I'd probably have trouble with it - in other words, all my docs know I get infections too easily! I'm such a wimp!)

Ok, I think that takes care of all my news for you. Someday ask me about my skates, how they were sharpened, and how I learned to figure skate without toe picks!

Fanny, Please know that I am sorry for insulting you earlier. That was not my intention, at all. I would never do that purposely! And I'm not very good at apologies, so I'll leave it at this. But again, I am sorry, and in the future, I'll refrain from commenting, and sticking my foot in my mouth.  an angelic monkey

Hi all.  I have not read back yet but thank you all for the prayers.  A quick update.  Oldest son came over last night as I thought he would. Sicker than a dog.  Hubby also broke out in a high (104.2) fever last night.  I sent then both to the emergency dept as oldest had open heart surgery when he was 15 and he had passed out twice since Sunday which he never told me about until last night.  Dr told hubby he was 99% sure he had H1N1 but would not know for sure without a culture. They are keeping oldest son in hospital as his heart rate is irregular and they want him monitored. We are not allowed in the cardiac unit due to all of us either having or being exposed to H1N1.

Youngest still has a fever, but mild compared to where he was, I have been successful at keepig his fever under 102 for a full day now

Second oldest who had the collapsed lung went to work again today and he has another xray scheduled Friday to see where his lung is at.

I feel like I am going to drop as it has been one thing after another with each of the kids and now hubby.  I am stressed beyond my max right now and my fever is back today as well.

JSM so glad you liked Battle of the Blades.  It is going to be a good one next week.
Prayers go out to your step mom and your family.
Northern, what you must be going through is awful. I hope everyone gets better and I am praying for y'alls recovery. Get some rest and take care of yourself.  an angelic monkey

When you get up to par, could you please tell me because CBC has now blocked US viewers from watching Battle of the Blades, who is left. TIA JSM

Marie-France injured her back in rehersal for Sunday and compresed two discs so could not do the final skate off as being one of the bottom two couples.  The judges have let all three couples move forward to the finals on Sunday.  Shae-Lynn and Claude were the top couple.
Thanks for the update Northern. Marie-France is so tiny and frail looking, I hope she is okay. I hope you guys are feeling better today!!!

I'm not sure who I am rooting for in the Olympics. I think the Chinese will win gold in pairs and Yu Na Kim will win gold in ladies. Glad to know you aren't getting a mediport if you get infections. Tell me about learning to skate without toe picks. I can't skate without them, that's why I never have tried my hockey skates.

Navajo Code Talkers to Walk in NYC Veterans Day Parade

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

NEW YORK —  The famed Navajo Code Talkers, the elite Marine unit whose unbreakable code stymied the Japanese in World War II, fear their legacy will die with them.

Only about 50 of the 400 Code Talkers are believed to be still alive, most living in the Navajo Nation reservation that spans Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. Many are frail or ill, with little time left to tell the world about their wartime contribution.

But on Wednesday, 13 of the Code Talkers are coming to New York City to participate for the first time in the nation's largest Veterans Day parade.

The 11th Hour: The Date Behind Veterans Day
by Claudine Zap

434 Votes

While most know that Veterans Day honors those who have served in the military, the meaning behind its exact date (November 11) may not be so familiar. Here's the backstory:

Back in 1918, in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a stop to hostilities was declared, ending World War I. An armistice to cease the fighting on the Western Front was signed by the Allied powers and Germany.

President Woodrow Wilson immediately proclaimed the day "Armistice Day," kicking off the annual commemoration on November 11. But over the years, with veterans returning from World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day — a day reserved to honor veterans returning from all wars. But 11/11 still represented the end of the Great War in the public's mind, and the date stuck.

In 1921, unidentified dead from the war were buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., Westminster Abbey in London, and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The tradition to honor those killed in the war but never identified continues every year in the U.S. The ceremony is held at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Congress designated Veterans Day as a legal holiday in 1938, and since then, most Americans have come to know it as a day for store sales and parades. Yahoo! Searches on the holiday have already surged on the Web. People want to know "veterans day history," "veterans day closings," veterans day sales," and "veterans day free meals."
