Missing girl's body found
Updated at 10:42 AM today

SANFORD, NC (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police said Monday they have found the body of missing 5-year-old Shaniya Davis.
The child's remains were located in an area bordered by Highway 87 south and Walker Road - just south of Sanford - during a second day of searching.
Davis was last seen alive at a Comfort Suites hotel in Sanford last week - the same morning her mother reported her missing from her Fayetteville home. Police say a surveillance video from the hotel showed the child with 29-year-old Mario McNeill.
The area where police found the body is about 7 miles from the hotel.

This is going to sound terrible and not meant to give the mother a pass but if Shaniya was going into the hotel at 6:11 and her mother calls to report her missing at 6:50 appoximately a half hour had gone by with her up in that room. either MM had to have called her and said something happened, better call police and make up a story, which she did, on the spot, even before MM left and hid her or could it be that she really did go in there and see Shaniya was gone and MM is the one saying the mother knew all about it and was pimping her daughter out, and that he was just doing her bidding?  Just trying to make sense of the timeline.
Seems the usual way would have been a call to police after he had gotten rid of her and the two had time to get their stories straight.

MIZ JAY, I think her bio mom knew they were getting rid of Shaniya that morning, and she had a "cover story." She knew that Shaniya was never coming back, was already miles away, and the deed had with all probability had already been done. Her story was a smoke screen to keep the LE focused on her end of the county.  JMO

Fanny Mae...I agree, AD planned to "frame" the dopey Coe for a fall guy in there plan.
Do you remember "terrorized and kidnapped"? surely she had the plan perfectly down to frame Coe,
except for the cameras, she didn't count on the trailer cameras or the hotel cameras. My opinions.

Police Find Body of Missing North Carolina Girl

SANFORD, N.C.  —  Authorities in North Carolina say they have found the body of a 5-year-old girl who disappeared a week ago.

Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance told The Associated Press on Monday that searchers found the body of Shaniya Davis off a road southeast of Sanford in the central part of the state.

Two people have been charged in Shaniya's disappearance, including her 25-year-old mother, Antoinette Davis. Police have charged Davis with human trafficking and felony child abuse, saying Shaniya was offered for prostitution. Davis is due in court Monday afternoon.

Authorities have also charged 29-year old Mario Andrette McNeill, who was seen in surveillance footage carrying Shaniya at a Sanford hotel.

Shaniya's mother reported her missing last Tuesday.

Shaniya Davis Found in Lee County

5-year-old Shaniya Davis was found on the second day of search in Lee County, seven miles from the Sanford hotel where she was last spotted with Mario McNeill.

Murder charges will most likely soon follow the path of one life, possibly two.  The mother of Shaniya Davis has been charged with human trafficking, felony child abuse involving prostitution, filing a false police report amongst interfering with a police investigation.  Mario McNeill was arrested on first-degree kidnapping charges.  Both faced $51,000 bail.  However, the tides have changed as of this morning.

Fayetteville authorities have been on a search for Shaniya Davis for the last two days based on a tip that seemed lucrative in finding Shaniya.  Shaniya Davis was found, but not alive.

Stay tuned for more.

Body of Shaniya Davis Found Along North Carolina Highway
Police Said They Had Gotten a Tip That Shaniya May Have Been Dumped by I-87

The body of 5-year-old Shaniya Daviswas found alongside a North Carolina highway near her hometown, according to Raleigh ABC affiliate WTVD.

Shaniya had been missing for nearly a week. Her mother, Antoinette Davis, 25, was due in court today on charges of human trafficking and child prostitution.

Fayetteville Police spokewoman Theresa Chance told ABCNews.com today that officers had been searching a portion of Interstate 87 between Harnett and Lee counties.

"Information that we received leads us here as far as where the body was discarded," she said.

But police, she said, continued to receive tips constantly that there had been sightings of the little girl alive.

"This is very hard on the officers," she said. "They have their own small children. Everyone thinks 'What if this was my child?'"

Authorities had been working around the clock trying to bring the little girl to safety, Chance said.

"Everyone is very tired, very tired and worn out," she said.

Lois Lee, the founder and president of the non-profit Children of the Night, said drugs are often involved when mothers are found to have sold or traded their children.

But the trafficking of a 5-year-old is "very rare," Lee said. "And very rare that they would call it trafficking."

Children of the Night, marking its 30th anniversary this year, typically deals with children whose ages range from 11 through 17.

What makes Shaniya's case different is that she is not yet old enough to be considered to be "mobile," to run away on her own to escape a bad home life, Lee said.

When children are trafficked or pimped under the age of 11, she said, "usually the parents are involved."

Shaniya was last seen, according to police, on a surveillance camera video at a hotel in Sanford, N.C., in the arms of Mario McNeill, who was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree kidnapping. McNeill is being held on $100,000 bond.

Chance declined to comment on a possible connection between Davis and McNeill. A third man, Clarence Coe, has been arrested in the case, charged last week with kidnapping. The charges were later dropped, according to police, after interviews with McNeill.

Davis' other child, a 7-year-old boy, was removed from her home last week, Chance said, and is now in foster care.

Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart, told the Associated Press this weekend that the little girl, the product of a one-night stand with Davis, had lived with him until recently.

Lockhart said he decided to give Davis a chance to raise their daughter after she showed him that she was getting back on her feet financially and had her own home where Shaniya could live with her.

"I should've never let her go over there," he told the Associated Press.

McNeil should be charged for taking a human life for payment for a debt.  Why isn't he also charged with human trafficing????  I don't understand these people or their atrocities.  They should be exiled from this planet.  Load up the space shuttle and ship them off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

SANFORD - The body of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was found this afternoon on Walker Road off N.C. 87 south of Sanford.

There was no information immediately available on the cause of her death.

Police had been searching for the Fayetteville girl since Tuesday morning, when her mother reported her missing from their home in the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park off Murchison Road.

Police initially focused on and arrested a man described as the boyfriend of Shaniya's mother, but he was released when a surveillance tape showed another man holding Shaniya in a Sanford hotel about 40 minutes after she was reported missing.

That second man, Mario Andrette McNeill, surrendered to police Friday and admitted kidnapping Shaniya but was otherwise "extremely uncooperative" and the child's whereabouts remained unknown, police said. McNeill, who is 29, was charged with first-degree kidnapping.

On Saturday night, police charged Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis, with human trafficking, felony child abuse involving prostitution, filing a false police report and interfering with the investigation.

Police said Antoinette Davis had not cooperated with law enforcement. She will make her first appearance in court today at 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, police started searching for Shaniya in heavily vegetated areas off Walker Road near its intersection with N.C. 87 south of Sanford. They said they received reliable information that Shaniya was there.

A daylong search was fruitless and was suspended at dusk.

This morning, the search recommenced and police said they were searching for a body.

About 250 people joined the search, including police and sheriff's deputies from Fayetteville, Sanford and Lee County, fire department personnel and civilians who live in the area and who know the woods. Police used a helicopter, dogs and officers on horseback.

Antoinette Davis reported her daughter missing at 6:53 a.m. Tuesday, telling police she had last seen Shaniya at 5:30 that morning.

According to the surveillance tape, Shaniya was with McNeill at the Comfort Suites hotel on Bragg Street in Sanford at 6:11 a.m. Chance said today that police know that McNeill left the hotel with Shaniya at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. She said police don't know what condition Shaniya was in at that time.

McNeill is a felon who since 2001 has been convicted of multiple charges of assault inflicting serious bodily injury and a laundry list of drug charges, including selling and manufacturing controlled substances, according to the N.C. Department of Correction Web site.

Shaniya had been living with her mother at the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park for about three weeks.

Before that, she had been living with her father, Bradley Lockhart of Fayetteville. Lockhart has said he had reservations about letting Shaniya go to live with her mother but allowed it because Antoinette Davis had shown responsibility in her life and interest in the child.
