Reports detail alleged drug buys involving Misty Croslin

By Cindy Swirko
Staff writer

Published: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7:21 p.m.
Last Modified: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7:21 p.m.

The purchase of hundreds of prescription narcotic pills by an undercover officer from key figures in the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings happened on rural roads, a fast food parking lot, gas stations and other locales, according to documents released Tuesday by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Misty Croslin, 18, was arrested last week on multiple drug charges along with her former husband Ronald Cummings, 26, and three others. Cummings is the father of Haleigh, who disappeared Feb. 10, 2009, from the home Cummings shared with Croslin.

Croslin was home with Haleigh that night and reported her missing.

Reports released Tuesday detail how an undercover officer allegedly bought about 322 pills on six occasions between Dec. 22 and Jan. 18. The pills were oxycodone and hydrocodone narcotics under various trade names.

Several buys occurred in the San Mateo and Satsuma areas southeast of Palatka, but one occurred at an Interstate 95 truck stop in St. Johns County, the reports said.

"Misty is looking at 25 years because of how much it was," Lt. Johnny Greenwood said of the volume of pills.

Typically the undercover officer would contact Croslin about the amount of drugs he would like to buy, the reports show. The office and Croslin sometimes exchanged several phone calls before agreeing to meet at a location, the report said. Then they would sometimes drive to other locations before the final exchange of money for drugs was made.

The largest single transaction involved 155 pills for $800 on the second of six buys, according to the report.

The report alleges that buy happened Jan. 8 at the Flying J truck stop on State Road 206 and I-95 in St. Johns County.

"(Croslin) stated that she was 'freaked out' because this was a lot of money and a lot of pills. (Croslin) stated that she did not want to get in trouble," the report states. The officer drove Croslin to her Satsuma home afterward.

Also arrested were Croslin's brother, Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., 23; and Hope A. Sykes, 18, both of Satsuma; and Donna Brock, 44, of Orlando.

Misty Croslin is facing six counts of trafficking in prescription medications. Three counts of the same charge are pending against Cummings and one against Hank Croslin Jr., Sykes and Brock.

Brock was with Croslin on the Jan. 8 buy while Cummings was with her on several of the buys, the reports state. Hank Croslin was with her on one and Sykes on two.

Cummings and Croslin were briefly married last year and are now divorced. The reports sometimes refer to Croslin by the last name of Cummings.

Officials have said they hope the arrests could lead to a breakthrough in the disappearance of Haleigh last year at age 5.

3 Face Questions In Haleigh's Case

Haleigh's Father, Others Arrested On Drug Charges Last Week

POSTED: Tuesday, January 26, 2010
UPDATED: 8:24 pm EST January 26, 2010

The arrests of Ronald Cummings, his ex-wife, Misty Cummings, and three others last week on drug charges could be part of a bigger picture -- the difficult search for missing 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Haleigh was 5 years old when she disappeared from her Putnam County home nearly a year ago.

Now investigators are able to question five of the people who were closest to the girl, looking for any possible clues as to what happened to her.

Video: Do Investigators Have Leverage?  http://www.news4jax.com/video/22348545/index.html

Misty Cummings, 18, is accused of selling prescription pills on the streets of Putnam County, and Ronald Cummings and Misty's brother Hank Croslin Jr. are also being held on drug trafficking charges.

Ronald Cummings, Misty Cummings and Hank Croslin were booked into jail Wednesday night on drug trafficking charges.
Ronald Cummings, Misty Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr. were booked into jail Wednesday night on drug trafficking charges.
However, police have Misty's bond set at nearly $1 million because they said she sold more pills and did more dealings with undercover detectives than the others combined.

The question now is whether police have Misty right where they want her.

Could they use this drug trafficking case as leverage to get information on Haleigh's case?

All along, investigators in Putnam County have said they believe Misty holds the key to their investigation into the disappearance of Haleigh.

Misty was the last person to see the girl, and police believe she has information she's not sharing.

"I think there is an obvious linkage between the pressures that are applied in one case for info and the other," Attorney Rod Smith said Tuesday in a phone interview.

Smith is a former state prosecutor who has been following Haleigh's case very closely. He said now is an obvious opportunity for investigators to question Misty once again, and she may now want to talk.

Arrest Reports Released Tuesday Detail Drug Bust

According to police reports released Tuesday, Ronald Cumming, Misty Cummings, Hank Croslin Jr., Hope Sykes and Donna Brock, all arrested last week on drug trafficking charges, were able to buy drugs at a McDonald's in Palatka, a St. Augustine rest stop, Second Avenue in Welaka and off Highway 17 in San Mateo.

Detectives said Misty was involved in all six of the drug dealings. Ronald was involved in three, and Croslin, Sykes and Brock each involved in one.

In total, police said all five were selling more than $2,000 in pills.

According to the police reports, Misty at one point told an undercover officer she was "freaked out because it was a lot of money and a lot of pills, and she didn't want to get into trouble."

After investigating the group for a month, police in Putnam County arrested all five of them. Of the group, Misty has the highest bond and faces the most charges.

Arrest Reports Released in Cummings, Croslin Arrest

Josey Crews  Gary Detman  Jessica Clark     Created: 1/20/2010 11:26:49 PM    Updated: 1/26/2010 9:24:51 PM

PALAKTA, Fla. -- The arrest reports about the five people arrested recently on drug charges have been released.

The people arrested include Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin, the father and ex-mother-in-law of Haleigh Cummings, the girl who disappeared from her Satsuma home nearly a year ago.

Crystal Sheffield, the mother of Haleigh and Ronald Jr., has been granted temporary custody of her son Ronald Cummings Jr. after an emergency shelter hearing Thursday. The hearing was held after the arrest of the boy's father Ronald Cummings Sr. on drug charges.

Cummings had custody of his son prior to the emergency hearing. Permanent custody to Crystal Sheffield would have to be determined in another custody hearing.

The father of Haleigh Cummings, his ex-wife and her brother, and two others were in court Thursday morning to face drug trafficking charges.

Several law enforcement agencies Wednesday night arrested 26-year-old Ronald Cummings, 18-year-old Misty Croslin, and 23-year-old Tommy Croslin on charges of trafficking prescription medications.

The arrests happened more than 11 months after the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings, Ronald's daughter, who was in the care of Misty Croslin when she disappeared.

Haleigh, 5-years-old at the time of her disappearance, vanished sometime after Croslin said she put the girl to bed at the couple's home in Satsuma. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said its investigation began when a "source" told authorities information.

Investigators say a total of seven buys took place, all involving the drugs Hydrocodone and Oxycodone.

Authorities arrested five people in all. Hope Sykes, a cousin of Ronald Cummings, is among them along with Donna Broch of Orlando.

Misty Croslin faces six counts of trafficking in prescription medications. She's being held on a $950,000 bond at the St. Johns County Detention Center.

Ronald Cummings faces three counts of trafficking in prescription medications. He was held on a $500,000 bond at the Putnam County Jail Wednesday night and later booked into the Flagler County Jail.

Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr. faces one count of trafficking in prescription medications. He's being held on a $100,000 bond at the St. Johns County Detention Center.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said while those arrested are in custody, investigators will try to question them about the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings.

Dominick Pape with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Thursday, "There was a series of undercover purchases that occured. During those purchases, certain individuals would show up. Not always the same people, so that's why you have different individuals. Last night the last two individuals that showed up were Misty and Croslin."

A total of seven purchases took place with an undercover agent.

At a news conference Thursday about the latest arrest, Pape would not discuss the Haleigh Cummings investigation.

He said, "What I'm here for today is prescription pill abuse. It doesn't matter what names are on the board or who they're associated with. The message is we will investigate, we will arrest, and we will make a dent in the prescription pill abuse in the region."

When Pape was asked if the bond was set so high in order to keep Croslin and Cummings in custody for questioning in the Haleigh case, he said that the judges set the bond, not the investigators.

The little girl hasn't been seen since she went to bed on the night of Feb. 9. Misty Croslin said she tucked the girl in around 8 p.m. Seven hours later, Croslin noticed Haleigh missing.

Misty Croslin lived in the house with Ronald Cummings. The two married several weeks after Haleigh disappeared. They divorced last fall.

Investigators say Misty Croslin may hold the key to finding Haleigh.

Ronald Cummings' mother talks about arrests, Haleigh

Updated: Wednesday, 27 Jan 2010, 2:08 AM EST
Published : Wednesday, 27 Jan 2010, 12:13 AM EST

"He's doing the best he can…that isolation is what makes him craziest," said Theresa Neves, Ronald Cummings mother.
Neves is talking about his son Ronald's recent arrest.  He, his ex-wife Misty, her brother, Hank Tommy Croslin Jr., and two others were all taken into custody last week on drug trafficking charges for selling and possessing pain pills.

"He said he read a 376 page book from three in the morning until three in the afternoon. So he's doing a lot of reading, a lot of Bible study," said Neves.

Theresa says Ronald is in a jail cell alone, in protective custody. He has a cot and a toilet in his room. The lights in his cell stay on all day and all night, so Theresa says Ron has been forced to sleep under his cot to try and get out of the light.

"I think one day, he called eight times. He was pretty lonely that day, I guess," said Neves.

Theresa spoke at length about Ronald's arrest for trafficking prescription drugs. She says the two have barely spoken about the arrest, but they have talked a little bit about it.

"Putnam County's thing is that Misty's been the key to this. They couldn't bring her in, they couldn't hold her. Shes in there now, and I hope they can hold her," said Neves.

Theresa spoke at length about how her view of Misty Cummings changed. At first, she defended her former daughter-in-law for months, saying shes told all she knew about Haleigh's disappearance. During our interview, Theresa says now shes not sure.
"The first four months I knew Misty, I thought the kids were her number one priority. They loved her. Just the changes Ive seen in the past few months are unreal to me that anybody can be that day and night," said Neves.

"I've never seen her high, never heard of her high, but now that's all you hear…doing things just cant imagine anyone her age can do, " said Neves. "She's definitely not who I think she was. She has made a complete disaster of her life in the past few months," Neves added.

Neves says everyday she writes in a diary she bought for Haleigh . Everyday she changes the colors in the pad and saves it. She says all she has left to remember Haleigh by are those notes, the memories, and pictures. She says shes hoping whenever Ronald is allowed to come home, Haleigh will be there to welcome him.

 Monkey Devil!

Grace has been ordered to sit for a deposition on Thursday with a camera rolling .. according to a judge's order obtained by TMZ.

Grace and CNN are being sued by the parents of a woman who committed suicide after appearing on Grace's TV show. The parents claim Grace accused the woman of being responsible for the disappearance of her son.

The parents sued Grace and CNN for wrongful death, but Grace did not want her deposition taped because she feared clips would appear on TV and online, taking her out of context and splicing bits and pieces together to make her look bad -- sound familiar?

The judge ruled that Grace's depo can be videotaped, but the tape cannot be released to the media or anyone else without the court's permission.

The judge said since the parents' lawyer agreed not to release the video to third parties without court approval, there was no need to address "the evils" Grace complained of -- that "disclosure of the videotape of Ms. Grace's deposition" was designed to "harass, embarrass and intimidate Ms. Grace and corrupt the jury pool."

The deposition will be taken in Atlanta on Thursday. Makeup!

Whhhhhaaaaattt???

Perhaps the video clip was edited, TN may have said was "Ronald gave up his freedom by marrying Misty to help
bring Haleigh home" JMO. Teresa should grab a couple balloons and request permission to visit baby Jourdan, instead
of writing in a journal.

I am thinking it was edited out. JMO

New Drug Arrest in Palatka

Dave Wax  Ann Butler     Created: 1/27/2010 9:54:59 AM    Updated: 1/27/2010 10:26:20 AM

PALATKA, Fla. -- One week after five people were arrested on separate drug charges, the sheriff's office has announced yet another drug arrest in the county.

Robert Stevens, 31, faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance 14 to 28 grams and issuing fraudulent prescriptions.

The drug/vice unit of the sheriff's office had been investigating Stevens for fraudulent prescriptions.

When police learned he would be picking up Oxycodone from Palatka Drugs Tuesday afternoon, detectives waited for him. As he left the drug store with the pills, Stevens was arrested.

He had 120 Oxycodone pills with him, and detectives said his vehicle had many fraudulently printed prescriptions in it.

The arrest comes one week after five people, three of whom have been in the news for nearly a year, were arrested in Putnam County.

Late last Wednesday, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrested Ronald Cummings, his ex-wife Misty and three others. Cummings is the father of Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared from her home in Satsuma last February and hasn't been seen since.

Tuesday's arrest was part of a different investigation.
