Bounty hunter offers to post bond for missing child's former step-mom's bond

The California bounty hunter who made news after bonding Casey Anthony out of jail has offered to pay the bond for another woman linked to a missing child.

California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla told a local news station he offered to pay the $1.35 million bond for Misty Croslin — the last person to see Haleigh Cummings before she disappeared nearly a year ago, according to WESH.com.

The Satsuma girl, then 5, disappeared while home alone with Croslin, who at the time was her father's teenage girlfriend.

Misty Croslin, now 18, later married and divorced from Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. They were recently arrested on drug-trafficking charges.

New charges were filed Wednesday against Croslin and Cummings, adding an additional $400,000 bond to each.

Padilla said he has called Croslin's attorney about the offer. It's unclear if Padilla's offer will be accepted.

A newly released jail-house call between Croslin and her mother included talk about the missing girl.

According to WESH, during the conversation, Croslin is heard saying, "Mom, I want out of here. I want out so bad."

"The Haleigh stuff's got to come to an end," her mother said. "It's got to, Misty. Whatever the truth is, it's got to come out."

Padilla became national news when he stepped forward to help Anthony out of jail in 2008, saying at the time he was confident he could get Anthony to direct him to her then-missing daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.

Eventually, Anthony's bond was revoked and she returned to jail.

The 2-year-old's remains were later found a short walk from the Anthony home.

Anthony remains at the Orange County Jail without bond on a charge of first-degree murder. She has pleaded not guilty.

I cannot believe how misinformed Nancy and ARt are about these new charges.  The newest charges stem from the day of their arrest warrant.  Apparently they did not charge them with the deal made that day, because of the arrest that took place.  That is how I understand it.

Now they come on TV and say because ..... Hank spoke and Misty said 8-9 times...all of a sudden the extra chages go on.  I don't think that it happened this way .... no way ...could they up the charges unless they have info to back it up.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is the way I took the additional charges.

Listening to NG ... one of her guests spoke about withdrawls etc...and the drug they supposedly take ...  said that it would leave their system and withdrawls would not be so severe as say an alcoholic. Something I was not pleased to hear.  I wanted them to really suffer withdrawls.

Ronald, Misty face more drug sale charges

The father and former stepmother of Haleigh Cummings face additional charges.

Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin on Wednesday were charged with two counts of illegally selling prescription drugs after Putnam County authorities received warrants.

Cummings, 26, and Croslin 18, were already jailed on similar charges about two weeks ago.

Haleigh Cummings, then 5, was reported missing early Feb. 10, 2009, from her home in Satsuma and no trace of the blond-haired youngster has been found.

Though Cummings and members of the Croslin family have crossed paths with the law in the months since Haleigh vanished, these charges mark the most serious development.

The new charges were filed as part of a continuing investigation, said Deputy Hancel Woods, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

"These warrants were issued because of drug charges stemming from the purchase of prescription medication from undercover investigators at the time of their arrest on Jan. 20," Woods said in a statement.

"The arrests on that date were made on warrants that were based upon prior undercover purchases," he added. " The issuance of the warrants today and the filing of the additional charges are a follow-up to the operation which led to the original arrests."

The latest charges increased Croslin's bond to $1.35 million from $950,000. She is being held in the St. Johns County Jail on eight counts of trafficking.

Cummings' bond increased to $900,000 from $500,000. He is being held in the Putnam County Jail in Palatka on five counts of trafficking.

Cummings, Croslin and three others - including her brother - were jailed Jan. 20 following an undercover narcotics investigation lasting more than a month, the sheriff's office said.

The charges center on selling oxycodone and hydrocodone, authorities said.

The sheriff's office identified others arrested as:

n Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., 23, of Satsuma, charged with one count of trafficking in prescription medications. Bond was set at $100,000.

n Hope A. Sykes, 18, of Satsuma, charged with one count of trafficking in prescription medications. Bond was set at $150,000.

n Donna Brock of Orlando, charged with one count of trafficking in prescription medications. Bond was set at $250,000.

Cummings, Misty Croslin and Brock face minimum mandatory prison terms of 25 years if convicted, while Sykes and Tommy Croslin face between three and 15 years, Greenwood said.

The drug arrests have no connection to Haleigh's disappearance, Sheriff Jeff Hardy said last month.

"Information was obtained that these individuals were unlawfully selling prescription medications in the community," Greenwood said. "Sheriff Hardy assigned detectives from the drug-vice unit to the investigation. An undercover Putnam County detective infiltrated this group, gaining the trust of these drug dealers."

Hardy described illegal prescription drug sales as a "precursor to many other crimes" in Putnam County.

"Prescription drug abuse is rapidly on the rise in Putnam County, and is one of the toughest crimes for law enforcement to combat," Hardy said.

Meanwhile, Greenwood said authorities are continuing to work the Haleigh case, which they have termed an abduction.

Misty Croslin was babysitting Haleigh the night she was reported missing and later married then divorced Cummings.
