PORT ST. LUCIE — An Amber Alert was issued shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday for a girl police say may have been abducted as she walked to school along Midtown Road.

Witnesses described the girl as being between 7 and 8 years old, white with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a blue skirt and a pink or purple shirt. No other details were released Wednesday morning and police did not have a positive identification.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Web site, the Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse is labeling this incident as "endangered" and the child is thought to be in danger.

The alert also said the child may be in the company of two Hispanic males, approximately 20 to 30 years old with dark hair, both wearing blue or black T-shirts. They may be traveling in a white, possibly newer model panel van with t-style brushed aluminum rims.

Several boys were thought to have been walking behind the girl as a slow-moving white van stopped and looked at the boys, according to Officer Tom Nichols, police spokesman. The van passed them and the occupants are thought to have taken the girl, he said.

"They just grabbed her and took off,'' Nichols said.

Nichols said white vans are being stopped in hopes of finding the girl.

"We don't have a name or description other than that provided by the boys,'' Nichols said.

Numerous city police and other law enforcement vehicles jammed the scene in central Port St. Lucie about 9:30 a.m., shortly after a helicopter circled the area.

Several law enforcement K-9 teams from around the state that were training in Martin County arrived at the scene to assist.

Anyone who may have information related to the case can call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5000, their local law enforcement agency or 911.

non custodial parent abduction possibly? at least there are eye witnesses to this abduction..hopefully it will help find this child...I am sure that the school has been notified and any missing child info would be given  to the LE...also, maybe the boys even knew this child?

The local news here is saying that the boys did not really know her, that she must have attended a different school (private school maybe?).  They are also saying that there was a SAR K-9 training seminar locally and they have something like 28 K-9 teams already on the ground.  Teams from all over the country were here already.

Two boys, walking to their bus stop at the intersection of SE Midtown Rd. and SE Pinero Rd. say they witnessed two Hispanic men grab the girl and put her in a white van.  This happened around 8 AM.  The boys claim the girl was kicking and screaming.

Nichols describes the vehicle as a white, late model Ford Van with Goodyear tires and "criss-cross" after-market rims.

Authorities have issued a state-wide "Amber Alert" to try and gain more help an information finding the child.

Port St. Lucie police have dispatched officers to all of the schools in the city to take inventory of students and see if they can identify the missing child.

St. Lucie County sheriff's deputies, Stuart Police and agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement have joined in the search, using helicopters and K-9's.

"Hopefully with this show of force out here we will be able to get the girl back to safety," said Nichols.

Port St. Lucie Girl Believed To Be Abducted In White Van
Girl Reported Abducted Near Pinero, Midtown Roads

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an Amber Alert for a girl believed to have been abducted by two Hispanic men Tuesday morning.

Multiple law enforcement agencies continue to search for a missing girl in Port St. Lucie.

Port St. Lucie police spokesman Tom Nichols said a 7- or 8-year-old girl with dark hair was seen by two boys being pulled into a white van in the area of Midtown and Pinero roads at about 7:25 a.m. She was last seen wearing a blue skirt and a pink or purple shirt.

Nichols said the boys told police that the van changed direction, the door opened and the girl was pulled inside, "kicking and screaming."

The girl's identity is not known, but Nichols said the girl did not attend the boys' school.

Nichols said the vehicle is described as being a newer-model van with Goodyear tires.

Multiple agencies that happened to be in the area for a law enforcement convention joined in the search.

A sergeant at the scene said there were about 15 bloodhounds searching the area.

PORT ST. LUCIE — An Amber Alert was issued shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday for a girl police say may have been abducted as she walked to school along Midtown Road near Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

Witnesses described the girl as being between 7 and 8 years old, white with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a blue skirt and a pink or purple shirt. No other details were released Wednesday morning and police did not have a positive identification of the girl.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Web site, the Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse is labeling this incident as "endangered" and the child is thought to be in danger.

The alert also said the child might be in the company of two Hispanic males, approximately 20 to 30 years old with dark hair, both wearing blue or black T-shirts. They are thought to have been involved in the abduction and might be traveling in a white, possibly newer model panel van with t-style brushed aluminum rims.

Two 8- to 9-year-old boys walking to their bus stop at Southeast Pinero Road reported seeing a "suspicious van" driving south on Midtown Road about 7:25 a.m. when the van changed directions and went north. The van passed them and the occupants are thought to have taken the girl, according to police.

"They witnessed the van allegedly abduct this child," said Officer Tom Nichols, police spokesman. "From what they are saying ... the girl was kicking and screaming. They just grabbed her and took off.''

Police are checking the public schools to make sure all the children are in school and there's nobody missing. The boys don't know who the girl is, nor do police. All children at the bus stop have been accounted for.

Nichols said white vans are being stopped in hopes of finding the girl and police are checking all sex offenders and/or predators in the area.

"We don't have a name or description other than that provided by the boys,'' Nichols said.

No one else reported the apparent abduction, but a flurry of law enforcement officers and vehicles descended on the area. A helicopter hovered over the area, at one point broadcasting information about the abduction and asking anyone with information to call 911.

Several law enforcement K-9 teams from throughout the state that were training in Martin County arrived at the scene to assist.

Anyone who may have information related to the case can call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5000, their local law enforcement agency or 911.

If all the children have been accounted for at the bus stop, this sounds a little strange. I hope these two boys have made up this story.

They said they checked the public schools. Didn't DSNSLP say it might have been a private school as it was different from the boy's school?

Ask me what I would like to say to these fine upstanding young men. It is a definite hoax.

This will do wonders in setting back all progress in revamping the amber alert.

I can't believe these children would find this amusing. I suggest a public apology and MAJOR community service detail.

Imagine if we could have such a wonderful response each time a child goes missing? Regardless of this being a hoax, I applaud the major effort that was immediately undertaken. If we could only have such resources in each state, what a difference that could make.
Being a spiritual person, maybe there was a good reason for this hoax; to show us such resources as helicopters, road closures and many teams of search dogs are needed IMMEDIATELY. Train more searchers, dog handlers and dogs for each community. There are plenty of retired folks in good physical condition who could be trained and likely welcome the companionship of a working dog. There's my lemonade from lemons for the day.
