Cleveland woman accused of fatally beating her 5-year-old son faces the death penalty

By Donna J. Miller, Plain Dealer reporter
November 17, 2009, 2:04PM
Angel Glass, 24, was indicted today in the beating death of her 5-year-old son. She is charged with aggravated
murder, child endangering and felonious assault. She's being held on a $1 million bond.

"Because the victim was under the age of 13, Glass faces the death penalty," prosecutor's spokesman Ryan Miday
said.

Arshon died Oct. 24 of blunt force trauma to the head, neck, trunk and extremities, the Cuyahoga County Coroner
said.

Arshon had abrasions and bruises on his forehead, nose and cheeks. He also had old injuries, including fractured
 wrists, prosecutors said today.

Police said Glass beat the boy for tugging on her dress while she was styling a woman's hair. Glass hit Arshon
with a hair brush and a belt because he wouldn't stand in a corner, Miday said. The child went limp and someone called 9-1-1.

After her Oct. 23 arrest, Glass's two daughters were placed in foster care.

Glass's live-in boyfriend, Larry Wanzo, 22, was arrested Oct. 24, when he wouldn't let detectives with a search
warrant into his Ovington Avenue home. He was indicted today on a charge of obstructing justice. He's being held
 on a $250,000 bond.

Arshon was born in 2004, when Glass was in prison for felonious assault; she was sentenced Dec. 4, 2003, to three
years in prison followed by three years of supervision. She was released from prison June 18, 2006. Supervision
by a parole officer ended Aug. 10, 2007, according to state prison records.

Wanzo was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in 2006 and sentenced to three years of probation. Cuyahoga
County Common Pleas Judge Daniel Gaul extended Wanzo's probation to March 30, 2010, after he was arrested Oct.
24.
