Casey Anthony's lawyer argues against death penalty for client

CNN) -- A year after the remains of a Florida toddler were discovered, a lawyer for the slain child's mother asked a judge Friday to stop prosecutors from seeking the death penalty against her.

Lawyer Andrea Lyon told Orange County Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland that the "real reason" prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Casey Anthony is because they want to "get as biased a jury as they possibly can."

Lyon said a jury that is qualified to serve in a death penalty case is more likely to convict defendants.

But prosecutor Jeff Ashton told the court that the state is not seeking the death penalty; rather, the jury and judge will decide whether it is appropriate.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Hi Folks!  Lurker since the the very beginning.  Wanted to get your thoughts on my observation.  Not sure if this was already discussed... desperately trying to catch up.

Did anyone else notice Casey's reaction when Mr. Ashton stated the possibility of Caylee being chemically restrained?  Casey looked infuriated as if everything he was stating was true and that one piece was untrue and how dare he make such an accusation?  Baez quickly stopped her as if to say cool it.

That thought did cross my mind.  She is a troubled woman.

How ridiculous and stupid is it that the defense is not concerned with "wray of sunshine" being seen with the Anthonys with her mental health record etc - the prosecution is going to discredit this defense witness in a New York minute...she might just leave in a straight jacket that she needed a long @$$ time ago!   The Anthonys should have let go of some of their blood money to put that woman in hiding for a year - no worries that slap of reality will come with a deluge of whiplashing backhands & a final hammer to their brain cell deprived heads!

I so agree with this Capp, how can anyone not see, what we see with Joy?  She even at one point said in a police statement that she would not leave her child with George Anthony, she didn't want her to come up "missing".  She has been Baker Acted numerous times, nothing she says or does is consistent and all you have to do is look at her You Tubes to see just how loopy she is.  I guess when you have nothing you grasp at anything.  I just don't see how anyone with a brain would have anything to do with Joy Wray.  Jeff Ashton was amazing today and I can't wait for him to get Caylee justice.

Orange Circuit Judge Stan Strickland said he would make his rulings as quickly as possible

Exactly one year after Caylee Marie Anthony's remains were found, defense lawyers argued why a judge should prohibit prosecutors from seeking the death penalty against the toddler's mother.

Casey Anthony's attorneys argued that motion and several others at a hearing this morning before Orange County Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland.

The hearing began about 9:30 a.m. The courtroom was packed with media, attorneys and local members of Texas EquuSearch. Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony, attended.

Strickland first heard arguments from defense attorney Diana Tennis, who represents private investigator Dominic Casey.

That is a lie.  Her pastor came to see her one year ago today and at least once more after.    The prison visit logs prove it.  Lyon really needs to stop the crappola IMO.

Funny how poor little kc always needs someone to 'protect' her from the big bad meanies. It used to be the snuggle up to bozo, the puppy eyes, the strong arms of her hero around her to keep the press at arms length. Now she's turning to her new rock of strength, Lyons. I'm sure it's been practiced and Lyons is no dummy. She knows kc's image needed a makeover.  Excuse me while I barf.
