Can you tell I've been watching this too long, LOL

Also, once they make a big enough cut through this pipe, you will start seeing the oil come out from the cut area.  Right now all the oil is spewing out, just out of view above the working area.

I so hope they can stop this flow before the Gulf is ruined.  This is the first year in 30 that we haven't planned our vacation at Gulf Shores, Al. Won't be going this year.  I hate it for the good people of those areas.  They don't deserve this.

BlueMoon - I'm going to think positive.  I have been watching the ROV's for 3 days now.  They have been working their little metal butt's off.  I really believe that tomorrow they will get this thing capped and stop the majority of the new oil going into the gulf.

Klaas

Thanks for all the images.  Thank for all the info.

This is all so sad.

I cannot comprehend why there was not a back up plan that would have been  immediately activated in the event that something happened ... something akin to what happened.  Those who count on that body of water for their livelihood deserved so much more.  I am not a tree hugger but the potential risk to the environment has to be a consideration prior to embarking on any venture.

I hope you are right.  I try to be positive but some has already hit the Dauphin islands and it is a sanctuary and this could destroy it.  Fox just reported it could be capped tomorrow----BUT oil is now reaching Mississippi and Alabama coastlines.  They say they can clean the coast line with no problem but the marshes and all is a different story.

They DID have a plan--it was just not activated by our government.  I think the plan was to start burning it immediately and as always our government did not react to this disaster.

See, this has already happened in Alabama, beaches were closed:

The Florida report followed an orange and oily mess washing up on Alabama's beaches earlier Tuesday. Crews cleaned up the oil that they described as having the consistency of a "tarry mousse," but health officials closed the beaches to swimming.

Oh, I know it's already a horrible disaster for the gulf coast.  I just don't want it to become an insurmountable problem.  I cannot believe that there weren't more safeguards in place.  I'm not a fan of "drill baby drill" one bit.  I am a fan of the ability of these ROV's to work at 5000 feet below the surface though and have become a believer in their abilities.

Again - I will say from watching this for 3 days that it doesn't look to me that a whole lot MORE oil is spewing out than before.  We are seeing it come out of the newly cut area and we are seeing closeup but not MORE than before from my point of view.

I would go to the Gulf this year but I just do not believe I can stand the odor and they say it is strong.  You would have to stay inside the whole time.  This is just horrible for these communities considering what they had to go through with Hurricane Ivan and Katrina.  Pensacola Beach is suppose to get it in the next day or so--it is 9.5 miles our heading to their shore.
