I figure that Paulus had life insurance, don't you? IMO, he probably bought even more after Natalee's case.

I was thinking he'd have life insurance, too, CBB.  Also was wondering about the property & holdings in NL & Aruba.

Depending on how much debt he has - the life insurance may cover his debt and leave Anita and Sebastian forced to move out.

That's what I was thinking.  So many years of attorney's fees to pay for his son.  Wayward son living the life of Riely in Thailand.  Another in college.  Debt could well be too high for that house to remain in her hands.

TUITION AND EXPENSES for Emerson College
Cost of Attendance   $44,359
Tuition and Fees
$29,928
Room and Board   $12,280
Books and Supplies   $720
Other Expenses   $1,431

DEBT to sue the Aruba gov't
DEBT for legal fees with Joe Tacopina Law Office.
DEBT for legal fees for KALPOES
etc. etc.

If his estate owes more then his life insurance - Anita gets zero and the house may have to be sold in order to pay off the remaining debt.

I don't know the law in Aruba about this but here it's you don't Inherit any of your dead husbands debts just his $$$$$assists unless her name is on his bills

If Anita wants to keep Valentijn in Emerson College - SHE will have to pay the tuition on her teacher's salary.

If the home is in both names - she will have to pay the mortage on her teacher's salary.

IF the couple has a will and it's listed as the estate of, then the debts will be paid first with any insurance money - is my understanding of how it goes based upon my own personal experience. But whatdo I know.

Hi Blonde. Happy Valentines Day.

Hi none.      And I'm so sorry you had to experience what happens when the head of household passes away.   an angelic monkey   But I'm just wondering if perhaps the laws might be different in the Netherlands and/or Aruba then in the U.S. in regard to property and etc.  I wonder if they have atrocious estate (death) taxes?   Maybe Val could get a scholarship, not sure if he's a scholar though, and perhaps could show hardship, I don't know about that, just wondering?  And  I'm not sure what might be about property and ownership and etc. on Aruba.  I thought the Sloots had other property or possibly investments?  But I see what you mean about Anita paying for things on a teacher's salary.

Hi Muffybee-

Thanks for your comments, but please know I wasn't referencing any personal situation I may or may not have had.

I don't know what the estate laws in the Netherlands are but what I was trying to convey is that Paulus' family had some wealth and real estate holdings, some were involved in a quite public suit that he and his family won for a pretty penny additionally.

My point regarding wills, etc would be what he might have left direct to Anita and what he might have left in trust, or any other variation involving his sons. We can't know what that is, not sure I'd want to even try to speculate.

I just think Valentin's educational costs aren't going to be as large an issue for them, as it might be for some.

Hi, None....that's exactly what I was thinking when I mentioned holdings in Aruba and NL, earlier.  Great to see you here.

Holy Moly!  I read on a national football board that Paulus DIED!??!!!  Got some catching up to do.

Time for Justice!

Hi bean, IBE, Kat_Gram, Muff and Mere...good to see ya!

And a very very special thanks to TexasMom from me - she's the light of this board in so many ways...And to Mags - you are always in my heart...to Can, it's always nice to see your face on the board and seeing your support.

To Janet - your love for Natalee and Beth is sooo beautiful and so apparent. You always have my support and admiration. nthe last few months have been challenging for you - but brighter days are ahead.

To Jen, Kermit and Jen's good friend Deer - thanks for all the dedication. It's duly noted by me and many others.

To Buckshot - you, I, wreck, Carpe and KTF are all on the same page in so many ways. (it's the boys) LOL

To everyone that just reads here and offers their support - such as; Boxer Dawg, MaryAnn, GrnLizrd, cajun miracle, both
Sharons, and to all those I have not mentioned but you are my friends and most of all Natalee's friend - you mean the world to me and if it wasn't for her, I would have never known such a wonderful upstanding caring and dedicated group of people.

To Robots - you made this boy laff his ass off, almost as much as Carpe - you have my undying admiration.

To the Mods - 2NJ, Nut and Muffy again, you gals are sooo awesome and make SM a truly wonderful board and better than the rest.

Last but not least - To Klaas - you're really the bestest. I know everyone appreciates all you do, but the dedication to all the cases sets you aside from any board admin I have ever seen and you are one of a kind. It's always been my pleasure to know you and I will always consider you a true friend.

Good nite all - Justice for Natalee is around the corner.

God Bless ya Rob.Time for us all to come together, despite the differences, because the CLOCK is still TICKIN AND TOCKIN...WE'RE FAR FROM DONE ARUBA...take notice!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi NJ Son's Mom

I finally remembered the name of the property in the case in the NL, it was the Boxtel Roadway. I hope you are doing well Mom and have kept warm despite the blizzards and deep freezes.

Red,

Do reporters here have a choice in who they interview when having interviews in other countries?  I asked this earlier, but you may not have seen it.  Referring to Greta and Renfro and your post asking why Greta couldn't do better.

I'm heading out, but will look for your response in the AM.  Thank you for this forum...I don't remember the last time I said that....so I guess I'm overdue.

Goodnight, everyone.

I think that Val got a sizable scholarship.  He was valedictorian of his class in Aruba.  I don't know if he kept
his grades up, but would guess he did.
