Comments: Please keep this last beach area as it has always been free of hotels and all those things that will upset nature. Aruba is a beautiful country and deserves to have one small area free of the hustle and bustle of a crazy busy world!

Biography

Anita van der Sloot Hugen was born in 1956 in the Netherlands.

She attended the “Hogeschool voor de Kunsten”, Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem during the period 1974-1979 and graduated with a major in Art Education and a minor in Art History.

During her Masters she taught student college prep courses and adult painting classes at the Marienburg Academy in Arnhem and the “Vrije Acedemy” in Zevenaar, the Netherlands.

From 1979 till 1990 she taught full time middle and high school art at the Lorentz college in Arnhem which had an international department.

She took calligraphy classes with the famous Alexander Verberne and several theatre/scenery design classes . The last one with Joe Miklojcik in Access last year.

In 1990 she came to Aruba with her family.

After teaching adult classes at home, she became more and more involved with the International School of Aruba and was hired in 1991 for their Fine Arts department.

At the end of 2007, she attended glass bead workshops with Marian Abath in Aruba. This developed into a passion for glass and she now has her own small glass studio with her own equipment. Next to teaching, painting, mixed media techniques, altering books and working with glass, Anita keeps experimenting with new techniques and materials.

2008 Solo exhibition “ Gallery Mar Azul” Aruba

Anita participated in several group exhibitions, designed costumes and sceneries for theatre and gave several workshops in Caracas and Valencia, Venezuela. The last demonstration she gave was at Paseo Herencia, Aruba in November 2008 where she showed the process of glass beading. Together with other artists she sold her glass jewelry as a fundraiser for the donkey Sanctuary and the Terrafuse foundation.

Comments: Stimaruba I am very happy that you do this. I leave on Aruba for 1 year now. I kitesurf and love the beaches. Now I hear about plans at Fishermans Huts, Boca Grandi and Arashi. That are the only beaches with good wind in Aruba. So for me and many visitors that come here for the wind it would be terrible to built more hotels. Also these are the last beaches where Aruban people can go to. Aruba is now for the hospitality for our visitors. But you don´t have to give everything!!! How will our kinds grow up without our beaches. People say all beaches are public, but I have to much repect to go sit with my icejug in front of the hyatt or some other big hotel. Already we have problems getting employees to work in the new RIU hotel. For years Aruba had the fastest growing population in the world. Overheating the economy. The demographic ageing is another problem on the island, but creating more labour needing economic development is not the key to counter that. So no new hotel locations on Aruba!
