Never the less Susan must be found..

The family of Susan and there friends were the limitation in this case from the beginning..
They should have been hot on this idiot and had CPS take those children from the him.
They have enabled a liar and worse by NOT performing in the best intrests of Susan faster.
The family friend and spoksperson was / has not helped at all by suggesting to her family that Susan was alive. Pure Bullshift. Very irresponsible. Her family should have been hot on accusations with LE, EARLY on. They trusted him and crucified Susan in doing so.
jmho

I don't blame the family.  I blame LE for not keeping tabs on Josh while he was out in parts unknown putting hundreds of miles on a rental car.  And maybe that friend or neighbor guy who didn't want to hear what happened from Josh, just wanted to let him know that he supported him.

Anyone remember off the top of your head how many miles were in question on the rental car?? I am searching now, but can only find 'several hundred miles'.

OK.....here is why I asked about the miles. I have remains in Idaho and before the article below came out I wondered if it may be Susan. I see others thought the same....

Could human remains found in Idaho, believed to be a woman, be those of Susan Cox Powell?
April 25, 3:48 PM

April 25, 2010 - Human remains believed to be those of a woman were found in Idaho Friday and have been taken in for testing. It could take two weeks to two months for the remains to be identified.

The question posed to Examiner.com is could the remains be those of Susan Cox Powell?

At this time it appears unlikely. Susan has been missing for nearly five months. The remains found appear to have been there for quite some time.

Police say they cannot detect the person’s age or how the person died. They believe the remains are those of a woman but say they can’t even be certain of that.

Examiner.com contacted the Idaho Falls Police Department Sunday via email to provide them with information about Susan, and contacted the West Valley Police Department, also via email, to inform them about the remains found.

West Valley City Police responded via email stating they would contact the Idaho Falls Police Department.

Sgt. Phil Grimes said about a dozen detectives and crime-scene specialists were called to the area and that the remains were “almost totally decomposed.”

“We’re fairly sure the remains are those of a female,” Grimes said, “but we can’t even be certain of that at this time. What we found there was very skeletal.”

News reports indicate the remains were badly decomposed and police have no way of knowing how long they have been there. Grimes said,” We feel they’ve been there for some time.”

The remains were found on Friday in the Ammon foothills and were located about 12 miles east of Idaho Falls near a rutted dirt road entered from Sunnyside Road, and one mile southwest of the Annon Transfer Station. The muddy track provides access to some wind turbines

Police are combing the area to find anything connected to former missing person’s cases.

Police say they are opening up cold missing person’s cases to see if they can identify the body. Two women went missing in Idaho: Stephanie Eldredge, an Idaho Falls mother of three, went missing August 2007 and Amber Hoopes, 20, went missing in September 2001.

Police say it could be one of them, or it could be someone else. “Someone brought here from somewhere else,” police said.

They are not ruling out foul play or suicide. Police say they are surprised the remains were not found sooner, given they were in plain view when discovered.

A wind turbine employee stumbled upon the body around 3 p.m. Friday when he was looking for better cell reception to get help after his truck got stuck in mud.

This report says 'almost totally decomposed'
http://www.idahostatejournal.com/news/loca...1cc4c03286.html

Stephanie Eldridge missing since August 21, 2007

Darwin Vest missing since June 2, 1999

Amber Hoopes missing since September 14, 2001

The above three are among the persons they believe it could be. IMO all 3 would be totally skeletonized.....not ''almost totally decomposed'

Detectives to see if remains near Idaho Falls are that of Susan Powell
April 26th, 2010 @ 12:20pm
IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO - The West Valley City Police Department is interested in a body discovered in a remote area near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

KPVI News, the NBC affiliate in Idaho Falls, is reporting the badly decomposed body was found Friday just a few yards from a busy recreational access road by a man who walked up a hill to get a better cell phone reception after his truck got stuck.

The Idaho Falls Police Department says the skeletal remains are likely that of a woman and West Valley detectives say they will check if the remains are that of Susan Powell, who has been missing since early December.

Susan's husband, Josh Powell told police he took his children camping on the night of Dec. 7 -- the day his wife went missing. He remains the only named person of interest in her disappearance and has since moved to Washington with his two sons.

Idaho Falls Police Sgt. Phil Grimes told KPVI, "There is certainly some suspicious circumstances at the scene and that's about as far as I want to go at this point."

It'll take the Idaho State Police Crime Lab at least two weeks to identify the remains, possibly several months.

Bonneville County has three open missing person cases, two involving women. Stephanie Eldredge, a mother of three, went missing in August 2007. And 20-year-old Amber Hoopes has been missing since September 2001. Biologist Darwin Vest went missing in June 1999.

West Valley police doubtful body found in Idaho is that of Susan Powell

WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley police are keeping an eye on the discovery of a body in Idaho Falls, but detectives say it's unlikely that it's that of missing West Valley mother Susan Powell.

"(Idaho authorities) are pretty sure it's one of their missing-person cases from three years ago," West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan said. "They're pretty positive it's going in that direction."

KPVI News, the NBC affiliate in Idaho Falls, reported the badly decomposed body was found Friday off a road by a man whose truck got stuck.

As of Monday, McLachlan said his department was not going to send any officers to Idaho but rather would let detectives there handle the investigation.

Powell was last seen Dec. 7. Early that morning, her husband, Josh Powell, took their two children on a camping trip in a remote area of Tooele County at 12:30 a.m., he told police. Temperatures that night were below freezing. Josh Powell said his wife was gone when he returned home.

He has since moved back to his hometown of Puyallup, Wash. He remains the only person of interest by police and has refused to cooperate with investigators.

Test results on the body found in Idaho Falls could take anywhere from several weeks to a few months. McLachlan noted that the police department there had two missing-women cases of their own that were still unsolved.

These unsolved cases are sad. I hope they get some resolution. I wish we knew what Josh's reaction was when they discovered that body. Did he know it was not her, or did he get weireded out by the find? His reaction would be very telling. I like many others feel he had to much freedom the forst few days. LE should have had him under a microscope for that time period. He should have been brought right in for questioning, they may have been able to break him. I don't get it!!!

Found human remains are female

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- Police in eastern Idaho say they have started an investigation following the finding of badly decomposed human remains in a remote area 12 miles east of Idaho Falls.

Sgt. Phil Grimes of the Idaho Falls Police Department says the remains were found Friday afternoon by a motorist who had walked uphill in search of a better cellphone signal after his truck became stuck in mud.

Grimes says the Idaho State Police Crime Lab will try to make an identification of the remains in a process that will take at least two weeks and possibly two months.

Grimes tells the Post Register that police are fairly sure the remains are of a female, but not certain. He says suspicious evidence at the scene prompted the investigation, but suicide can't be ruled out.

Bonneville County has two notable cases involving missing women.

Stephanie Eldredge, a mother of three, hasn't been seen since August 2007. And 20-year-old Amber Hoopes has been missing since September 2001.

I am concerned that they call the body decomposing rather than skeletonized.  Although it seems a little too far away to be Susan.  Whoever it is may they rest in peace and the perp be caught and punished.

Good Evening Monkeys and Guest!

I heard a body had been found, was praying they had found Susan. This body was described as badly decomposing, that does not fit with the females that are missing. There would be no decomp left, just bones. Not sure how the weather has been in Idaho, but I feel sure it is just starting to warm up there. Snow and cold would have preserved her body for a long time.

What struck me as interesting is that the location is where the wind turbines are, so it's a windy location for them to work.

Josh's face and hands were horribly wind burned.

That's right! He kept putting lotion on them in front of his friends. I really pray this is her and they have some evidence left behind. Also I would think that the snow helped preserve her for a little while... till the warmer weather came.

The family of Susan Cox Powell reacts to body found near Idaho Falls
Reported by: Brent Hunsaker
Last Update: 5:46 am
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police detectives in Idaho Falls do not believe the body found there Friday is that of Susan Cox Powell. A positive identification will take a few weeks, but they've got two other local cases of missing women from 2007 and 2001 and believe it may be one of them.

Exclusive to abc4.com, a spokesman for the family of Susan Cox Powell issued this statement Monday evening from their home in Puyallup, Washington:

"While it seems unlikely that the body found near Idaho Falls is Susan, her friends and family are acutely aware of the anguish the discovery presents for the families of other missing persons. In one aspect, the recovery of the body of a missing loved one offers a sense of closure and ends the relentless worrying and wondering. It also comes, however, with a finality that is inarguable. No more hoping the missing person will inexplicably come home."

The badly decomposed body -- little more than bones really -- was found about 12 miles east of Idaho Falls in a stand of Aspen on a hillside just a few yards from a busy recreational access road.

The discovery was made by a man who got his truck stuck in the mud. Idaho Falls Police Sergeant Phil Grimes said, "When he was stuck - he was trying to get some cell phone reception and walked up a hill. As he was walking back down the hill to his vehicle he came across skeletal remains."
t drew the attention of West Valley police detectives who are investigating the Susan Powell disappearance. She vanished from her home nearly five months ago. But the Idaho Falls detectives say the remains appear to have been exposed to the elements a lot longer than just five months. "We've just been in contact with them by phone," said West Valley Police Captain Tom McLachlan. "As they got further into this the less it looked like the possibility that it would be Susan."

The Idaho find was a long shot. But Captain McLachlan says detectives have followed countless long shots. "Investigation is a process of elimination."

Breaking News: Chuck Cox, Susan Powell’s father, on Nancy Grace; discusses remains found (Slideshow)
April 27, 9:14 PMSeattle Headlines ExaminerIsabelle Zehnder
April 27, 2010 - Chuck Cox of Puyallup, Washington, whose daughter, Susan Cox Powell, has been missing since early December, appeared on the Nancy Grace Show Tuesday evening discussing the female human remains found Friday in the Ammon Foothills located about 12 miles east of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Nancy Grace has been covering the story of the remains found in Idaho since Monday. Tuesday evening Chuck Cox appeared on her show via video recording and said, “I don’t believe this is Susan. I hope it’s not her.”

“I wish there could be closure in this case,” he said. “Please don’t forget those who are missing.”

Cox has said it before and I’m sure he will say it again, that he feels for everyone who has a missing loved one.

He thanked Nancy Grace for running the segment on Susan.

Human remains found

On Friday afternoon female human remains were found in Idaho, about three hours from Susan’s home where she was last seen before she disappeared.

The news of the remains raised a red flag for Linda Osborne, who has been searching for Susan since early December. Osborne contacted me Sunday morning.

Together we worked to notify Idaho Falls Police.

I sent emails to Captain K. Brown and Sergeant Phil Grimes Sunday afternoon letting them know about Susan’s case. Included in the emails were a description of Susan, the clothing she was reportedly wearing when last seen, a missing person’s flier, and her photo.

Osborne also sent emails to the investigative unit of the Idaho Falls Police Department Sunday afternoon.

I also sent emails to Lieutenant William Merritt, Sergeant Robert Bobrowski, Captain Tom McLachlan, and Detective Ellis Maxwell of the West Valley City Police Department, letting them know about the remains found in Idaho and provided them with contact information for Idaho Falls Police.

Within moments I received a response via email from Sergeant Bobrowski letting me know he would contact the Idaho Falls Police Department Monday.
On Monday afternoon I spoke with both Captain McLachlan of West Valley Police Department and Sergeant Phil Grimes of Idaho Falls Police Department by phone. Both confirmed their departments had been in contact with one another.

During my conversation with Captain McLachlan, he said that Idaho Falls Police are pretty confident the remains are not those of Susan and while they don’t yet have positive identification of the remains, they believe they could be those of a woman who has been missing for three years.

Sgt. Grimes said that prior to receiving the email he had not considered the possibility this could be Susan.

He said their department can’t be sure it’s not Susan but nothing makes them believe it is. They won’t know for sure until results of the DNA testing comes back in a couple weeks, he said.

He said that though he’s no expert in body decomposition, he thinks the remains have been around longer than since December. Again, he said, he can’t say for sure until the DNA results come back.

Few details of Susan's case:

Susan Cox Powell, 28, went missing from her West Valley City home Dec. 6. Her husband, Josh Powell, is the last known person to see her when she went to bed at midnight. He told police and media that just after Susan went to bed he took their two young sons, then ages 2 and 4, on an overnight camping trip.

It was snowing that night and temperatures were subfreezing. He claims he forgot what day it was and that he went camping because he and his boys liked to do S'Mores. He said when he returned the following day his wife had disappeared and he didn't know where she was.

His story has been largely criticized and disbelieved.
Josh Powell is the only person of interest in what police call a missing person's case with suspicious criminal overtones.

Opportunities Lost for All Time in the Susan Powell Case!

Submit By John Kays

A stranded motorist stumbles upon a decomposed body in a remote area near Idaho Falls, last Friday afternoon. Friends and family of a missing mother of two, Susan Powell, begin to wonder if this is Susan. It has been confirmed now that these remains are not Susan Powell.

The skeletal remains are likely either Stephanie Eldridge or Amber Hoopes, both missing for several years from that area in Idaho

For me, the possibility that it could be Susan filled me with a presence of mind that reawakened salient images in this case. Telling recollection flooded my thoughts; snap shots of an ebullient Susan, a candlelight vigil, a wood-carved sign of the Pony Express Trail, or the ever-present navy blue cap visage of Josh Powell.

Dead end trail. West Valley Police Captain Tom McLachlan is still calling it just a missing person's case. I conclude that with all the evidence they gathered, no firm clues that could point some blame was ever found. That means that whoever did this covered their tracks. The perpetrator concealed what they had done so that the cops couldn't detect their diabolical deed.

I believe that the West Valley City police actually came very close to solving this mystery, but were just short of something solid enough to make an arrest or declare it a homicide. As I went back over this last night, I felt as if reporters from that Utah area were honing in on what exactly happened.

Read the reports of Brent Hunsaker of ABC 4 News for many details that came out about Josh Powell. Josh rents a car just two days after his wife disappears and puts several hundred miles on it. The cops couldn't get any GPS data however. In my mind, they missed the most important opportunity (in the whole case) to trail Josh when he rents this car. This could be the clincher, for I believe that Josh RE-HID the body on the 9th of December, then gives that mock-interview about playing S'mores with his kids in the freezing cold.

A neighbor of the Powell's, Tim Petersen, believes that Josh returned to the camping area (the Pony Express Trail) with the rented car on the 9th. Josh had to return the rented car and get the van back that the police had confiscated, so he got a ride from Petersen. Petersen observed that Powell's hands were badly wind burned and he even believed that his hands were frost bitten. Josh had a bottle of lotion and rubbed his ruddy hands frequently on the car ride with Tim.

Why was Josh out in the element? What did he do and where did he go with this rented car, two days after his wife Susan went missing? I have my own opinion what he was doing. He was putting the finishing touches on covering up his horrible deed, killing his wife who was rebelling against him, asserting her own independence and formulating a basis for divorce from her controlling husband.

And what was ever made of the wet carpet with two fans blowing on it? A carpet cleaner was near by also. Why? Did they analyze fibers from the carpet? What about fibers in the family minivan? I guess they never found anything. I've heard also that Josh was seen at the Duces Wild Strip joint in Salt Lake City on the 7th? And that he made a fool of himself here. Can the WVC police confirm or deny this rumor by questioning witnesses who saw Josh at this strip bar? They claim that Josh said he was having a hard day. Yea, when you kill your wife that can turn out to be a hard day for you!

Exactly what transpired on the eve of December 6th, 2009 is still unclear. I believe that Josh kills Susan in a fit of rage, then hides the body in a temporary location. He cleans up the house thoroughly, and I mean spotlessly, then takes the kids out to a remote location. He's gathering his wits and constructing his fibs, and doesn't return until 5 PM the next day. He knows that reporters will be all over him.

Two days later he completes the job when he rents the car. He realizes the cops are not too suspicious of him yet. He hides the body again, (it's highly likely Josh buried it some place) and completes the cycle of disguising his crime so that he will never be exposed. Now the opportunity is lost! Josh is free, he gets away with murder, but his conscience will be a giant on his shoulders for the rest of life.

Skeletal remains believed to be Stephanie Eldridge

The remains found in the foothills east of Ammon appears to be that of Stephanie Eldridge, the Idaho Falls woman who went missing in August of 2007.

Story Updated: Apr 30, 2010 at 5:48 PM MDT
BONNEVILLE COUNTY - It was a week ago when a repairman working on windmills stumbled across the remains and reported it to authorities.

That prompted a massive joint task force to comb the area looking for more evidence.

Based on what officers found at the scene, evidence in the autopsy, information obtained through the initial disappearance, and what they've received throughout the investigation, leads Idaho Falls Police to believe the remains are that of Stephanie Eldridge and that she was murdered.

Police would not specify on the condition of the body or whether it was buried when it was found. But they do believe several people have been near the remains.

"I think that people have definitely been in that area. Probably quite a few people during a two and a half-three year period. I think it was just out of the way enough where people just didn't notice it and didn't notice the remains," says Sgt. Phil Grimes with the Idaho Falls Police Department.

Eldridge was last seen at her home August 20, 2007. On that date, her stepmother came to visit, but only found her four-year old daughter home alone.

Earlier today, I spoke with Stephanie's Mother-in-Law, Linnette Theisen, by phone to get the family's reaction to the latest development.

She told me, "It's a bad situation all around and it's devastated a lot of people. I'm not sure what to say, I'm all numb and in shock. We're waiting for confirmation although we're fairly certain it's her. It's hard, but it will be nice to have some closure. It's hard to believe she was so close but no one found her until now".
