It sounds as though many monkeys are having wonderful Christmases and some miracles sprinkled in regards the health of their loved ones.

Let's all pray for this to be a day of peace and joy for Beth and Dave, their families, and a miracle for the upcoming year, in their lives, that will give them the peace and comfort they so deserve.

Let's not forget to give thanks to Him who gave us this opportunity to meet and support Natalee's family and may she be looking down from above on us.  Perhaps she is the angel that has provided miracles for some of our loved ones and us in our days of darkness, where we saw light.

May our special angel work in the lives of Beth & Dave and their families and extended families, Monkeys included, in giving them the best they could ask for in 2007.

Great News, Justins!  Very Happy

I was making coffee this morning, and was washing a few dishes waiting for it to finish when I happened to look out toward the windows..............
There were 5 wild turkeys in the back yard!!!
I just watched the number of them grow as they came up the hill. Total of 18 or 19; I wasn't sure, I may have counted one twice!

My son came in the front door in time to see them. I got a real kick out of it!

What a cool thing to see CBB!!! I'd love to see a pic of all those turkeys!! Have you ever seen them before?

Mishy, that's the cutest Santa I've ever seen!  Very Happy
I have seen 2 or 3 wild turkeys together, on occasion, over the 20 years I've lived here. It's probably been 5 years since I've seen any at all, and that was when I was driving on the road behind the house. This is a residential neighborhood, but it's at the base of a Mountain Ridge that is a designated park and wildlife reserve. Here's a link with a couple of pictures at the park. My house is on the backside of what's pictured.
http://www.baysmountain.com/
There are no structures on the mountain; just trees. I'm used to seeing red and gray fox, racoon, and the deer herds are almost a nuisance, but the turkeys seem to be more wary of people.
I need a good camera!!! I had plenty of time to take pictures, and the entire back wall of the den adjacent to the kitchen is windows. I'm going to have to do something about that!
I looked on the web, and this is exactly what they looked like. These were listed in my area. It's hard to tell how big they are from the pic, but they're BIG! Apparently it was a good size flock; the average size flock is around a dozen.

According to NORAD, Santa is in the St. Louis area right now!  Laughing

Laughing I checked last night around 10:30 CST and he was in New York.  I knew he'd be here shortly thereafter.  According to Klaas's post here, he must have come by my place around midnight.   Razz

Embarassed I hate when I screw up simple quotes.

I do hope a certain monkey got more than air filters from Santa  Shocked   If not, let's remember the wise words of Dr. Suess:
Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store
Maybe Christmas is about a whole lot more!

(something like that)

Peace, love and light, Monkeys.  Merry Christmas.

Well, I seem to be talking to a pile of bananas, not Monkeys, so I'll log out with the following question for you computer whiz kids:

Is there a software program called Botters or something that lets a person block another person from accessing certain Internet sites?  I'm not talking about parental controls, but where a user could do this to another unrelated user.  What I found when I googled didn't give me any answers.

Hi monkeys. I'm sitting in mom and dad's living room talking to you from the new lappy. I opened it up to show them, and it found a connection right away. How cool is that?!

CBB - I love the turkey pic. A couple of years ago we had a turkey with an injured leg that we fed with cracked corn all winter cause we were afraid it couldn't get around enough to find it's own food. Embarassed  Laughing

BT,
So glad you are happy with your lappy!

But I don't understand this.  It just finds its own wireless connection?  That is just really something as I have thought it would be very difficult to find wireless connections.  Does it run slowly compared to your non-lappy?  Maybe I want a lappy, too.   Very Happy Always thought they were not capable of everything a full sized would do.

Yours sounds wonderful  Do you mind saying what brand, not the model, just the brand?

Hi Anna,

It's a Lenovo Thinkpad T60, and it's very, very fast indeed. I don't actually understand how it found it's own connection, but it did. As soon as I turned it on a screen popped up and said it had found a connection through "linksys" and did I want to connect. I told it yes, and it connected instantly. I LOVE this thing! Very Happy

Ya might want to pay a little attention to what you are connecting to.

It could be a public WiFi from a nearby fastfood joint of something like that or it could be an unprotected home WiFi setup that the person dosen't realize is open to the world, kinda like some of the photo sites where folks don't realize they are shared with the world.

You might be using a neighbors connection without their permission so to speak.

Never fear Anna today's laptops are quite capable of doing anything you might want to do on a computer.

I have converted over completely to laptops. My two webservers are notebooks, and both my keypounding machines are laptops.

I've been using nothing but laptops for keypounding and development work for near 10yrs now.

Hey Carnut - mom and dad live out in the country like I do, so no fast food places nearby. They speculate I'm on their neighbor Kirk's connection, on account of he works from home and has a fast home internet connection.

BT,

Well, it sounds just great!  I may look more into lappies as I have always thought they just wouldn't do as much as a regular computer but by now it seems they do.

And best of all, they are portable which is the whole point.  #2 son has abandoned his regular computer and is totally lappy now so they must work really well as he is very fussy about things like that.

Now if you took it to work, they would not be able to see what you and typed and to whom, etc... . . . . but not trying to give you any ideas about goofing off, lol!

So glad all the monkeys had such nice Christmases.  Mine was just wonderful with my family, most of them, and so happy to still have my mother in good health, etc. at almost 90.

But I must admit I am really exhausted and fondly considering a nap.
BT, we are having some of the most dreary weather of the year now.  Good thing you have your lappie to keep you company as it is too dreary and chilly to go out today, at least for me.

Anna

That's a great idea about work. They just installed something at work last week that will let us use wireless anywhere in the building. Woo Hoo!

It IS dreary outside, and tomorrow is supposed to be really, really cold. Simon and I have been waiting for a cold day so we can finally build a real fire in the fireplace, so I'm looking forward to the cold weather.

Well, Captain Kirk will just have to learn to share!  Does it cost him any money to use his connection?  I sort of doubt it but then could he see any part of your connection, like that a computer connected to a certain other computer or site on any kind of record of his connections?

Neato, hope he is ok with that. Course it's kinda up to him to setup protection for his own connection if he wants to keep it private.

Maybe he's just a nice guy and dosen't mind anyone using it.

Some folks can get quite anal over such things if they aren't aware or don't realize their connection is shared with everyone until they do something to restrict it. Same as folks on cable connections, everything is shared and most folks don't realize it and get upset finding that other folks may be looking at their stuff.

I'm so glad Klaas had a big visit from Santa  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy !!!!!!!!!!

BT, my lappy finds the wireless connection too, plus there are keyfobs now with wireless locators, daughter has one. Anna mine is a Toshiba Oosmio and I do love it too.

Laptops have come a very long way in the last few years, many are equal in data capability to a desktop as well.

My daughter gave me something I thought I'd share, a book she found about mothers and daughters. She said she bought it for once she read this quote she had to buy it for me.

"Nowhere is it written that a mother and her daughter must be friends......which makes it even better when they are."

I feel sure that Natalee would have found that quote so meaningful as well and what a crying shame she isn't here to share that with Beth.  Crying or Very sad

Justice for Natalee, I pray the new year brings justice for her and for her family.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Kinda depends on whose doing what, if you  start surfing a bunch of porno sites it will be his IP address recorded as accessing them.

If he is into heave connection useage such as downloading movies and such and you are connected at the same time you will be using up some of his bandwidth and slowing him down a bit.

All internet connections are paid for by someone, so you are using his connection for free at the moment.
