Casey Anthony fraud case: Trial will not start Monday

It's official – the fraud case against Casey Anthony will not start on Monday but a status hearing is scheduled.

Court officials announced the change this morning.

Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland will address two motions at the 1:30 p.m. hearing. It's unclear yet which motions he will hear.

Anthony, 23, faces more than a dozen various fraud charges. She's accused of taking and writing more than $600 checks that belong to her friend, Amy Huizenga.

She remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.

Anthony also is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The two-year-old's skeletal remains were found in December 2008 less than a mile from her family's home in east Orange County. Authorities said she was killed but could not determine her cause of death.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Casey Anthony's fraud case set for trial next week will likely be delayed.

There's a slew of motions that haven't been addressed by the court, such as whether the defense can get a change of venue due to the media coverage. And, the defense has not interviewed the victim, Amy Huizenga, under oath yet.

Prosecutors and Anthony's defense team will appear at a pre-trial hearing Thursday to address some of these issues.

Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland has not officially delayed the trial, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.

Anthony, 23, faces more than a dozen counts of check fraud charges. She's accused of taking and writing $682 in checks that belong to her friend, Huizenga.

Anthony is also indicted on first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie, whose remains were found in December 2008 in woods near the family's home. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in that case.

She remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.

Also, a hearing to determine the status of her murder trial will not be held this week, as previously planned.

Both cases will be the subject of a hearing before Judge Stan Strickland. There are still several motions to be discussed, including change of venue for both trials.

Thanks for the updates..............I must say I am a bit disappointed in JS for not ruling, but I guess he was hoping for a plea deal. Hoe these motions will be ruled on favorably for the State and get this damn trial moving. the change of venue for the fraud trial is a joke to begin with...........the video's will prove her guilty and it won't mean a hill of beans what people have seen.....what about a fair trial for AMY

Casey Anthony, 23, Charged With Murder In Death Of Daughter

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The check fraud trial against Casey Anthony has been delayed.
The trial was scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 25, but the Orange County Courthouse said the trial will not go on as planned. A hearing in the case will still be held the same day at 1:30 p.m.

The court said it is likely that two hearings in the murder case against Anthony will also be heard the same afternoon by Judge Stan Strickland.

The specific motions that will be heard have not been named.

Anthony's former friend Amy Huizenga accused her of check fraud. Anthony is also charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony.

Caylee was reported missing in July 2008. Her remains were found in a wooded area in east Orange County, near Anthony's parents' home, in December 2008.

Anthony is being held at the Orange County Jail on no bond. She is expected to stand trial for the murder charge this summer.
