You know what makes me soooooo sick about these court hearings?  NO ONE from little Caylee's family sets on her side in the courtroom except the prosecutors.  I know where Georgie boy and Sindy stand when it comes to Caylee but why can't someone from George or Cindy's family come and set in the room for this dear Angel?  There has got to be some relative somewhere who could give a few hours every now and then to stand beside this child and give her the respect her own mother and grandparents can't give to her.  It just makes me want to cry that this baby was so dispensable in the grand scheme of life.    (have I told ya lately Cindy is the reason I am on blood pressure meds right now?       )

Listening to Baez's comments after court, did anyone else notice that he kept bringing up the intelligence of the jurors? So, if they do take into account her felony convictions in their deliberations, they are not "smart"?  It seemed like a way to manipulate prospective jurors yet again, to me.  Since the crime she is convicted of , and the murder charge are, in a way, related.  (The timing; she stole the $$ while covering up the fact that Caylee was "missing")  And also, it DOES speak to her moral character and trustworthiness, too.  Of course, she should not be convicted of murder solely because she was found guilty of fraud.... but I don't see why it shouldn't be considered by a jury.... I think it makes a definite difference.  But then, I have not agreed at any point with Mr. Baez, Esq!

I try not to listen to anything he says ... lol .. he's so full ot it;   If the press didn't show up one day as he entered or exited, I think he'd probably go into some kind of severe withdrawal and have to be hospitalized ... he's eating it all up big time.

Casey Anthony: WESH asks what’s up with defense team’s approach to Roy Kronk

WESH-Channel 2 briefly turned to the case of Casey Anthony tonight in a provocative recap.

Anchor Jim Payne asked, “Is her defense team trying to have it both ways when it comes to Roy Kronk?”

Kronk, then a meter reader, found the remains of toddler Caylee Anthony. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in daughter Caylee’s death.

WESH studied the defense’s contradictory statements about Kronk.

“We believe he should have been looked into,” defense attorney Jose Baez said Monday. “He should have had his phone records searched just like everybody else.”

The defense maintains that law enforcement focused on Anthony too quickly and didn’t explore others extensively. The defense also wants to introduce testimony from a Kronk ex-wife who points to Kronk as a suspect in the toddler’s death.

But Payne added, “Baez says they’re not trying to make any disparaging remarks about Kronk, who has always denied any wrongdoing.”

What do you make of that?

Casey Anthony: Jose Baez says there won’t be a plea bargain in Casey Anthony’s murder case — but when will trial start?
Caylee and Casey Anthony, HLN, Jose Baez — posted by halboedeker on January, 26 2010 8:44 AM

There won’t be a plea bargain in Casey Anthony’s murder case, defense attorney Jose Baez told HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell last night.

Velez-Mitchell asked if Anthony’s pleading guilty to 13 felonies in a check-fraud case Monday could be a precursor to a plea bargain in the murder case. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

“Absolutely not,” Baez told Velez-Mitchell. “Casey Anthony is not guilty. She’s pled not guilty, and this is going to trial.”

Velez-Mitchell wanted to know more about Baez’s referring to his client as unpopular. The HLN host cited a reason for that unpopularity:  Anthony’s baffling behavior when her child was missing.

“I understand people’s concerns about the facts that are reported,” Baez said. “I understand that completely. But Casey Anthony is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law. That has not happened, and she’s entitled to the presumption of innocence just like anyone else.”

And Baez added: “She wasn’t treated like anyone else since the moment she was arrested. And that’s all we were asking for.”

Velez-Mitchell also brought up the issue of when the murder trial could start. A summer start date had been expected.

But Velez-Mitchell cited the latest developments said last night: “When will this murder trial actually take place? Could it be five years? That’s what prosecutors warned today.”

She asked Baez about the prosecutors’ complaints about the defense team. “They took shots at you, saying that you’ve taken your sweet time questioning witnesses and have still not turned over a list of witnesses that you plan to call,” she said. “Give me your side of the story there.”
Baez replied: “Anyone who’s followed this case closely can see that we’re doing as thorough a job as we possibly can. We’re on the attack 24/7. … It’s an adversary process. … We don’t hold anything personal against the prosecutors. But we’re not going to let them run over our client, especially — we believe in our client’s innocence, and we want to defend her life, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

A caller was stunned by the idea it could be five years before the trial starts. “Whatever happened to a quick and speedy trial?” the caller asked.

Judge Larry Seidlin, a Velez-Mitchell guest, said, “Time, in this particular case, is on the defendant’s side. She needs more time to prepare for her case.”

What did you think of the Baez interview?

Fine.  Then:

1.  Open up the door and put her in General Population.

2.  Stop going on TV like everyone else's lawyer and family does.

3.  Stop making appeals demanding she be treated differently than everyone else.

4.  Make her popular.  You are her lawyer, that is your job.

5.  Stop going on TV and lying your arse off.

She also pleaded not guilty to the check charges and changed her plea.  Maybe we can see the future and know she is going to plead guilty to her murder charge also.

I wish that I knew more about the process in which Casey can request and get money to help pay for her defense. Does it include money to cover the cost of depositions? Does it include money for an unlimited number of experts? Does it include money for Baez/Lyon/LKB in some limited amount? Does it include money for a mitigation specialist? Does it include money for an investigator? Somehow to me it would seem odd for the State of Florida to be paying expenses to out-of-state people, so are there any restrictions?

rhornsby replies:

State of Florida Justice Administration: Indigent for Costs Information

Yes it includes money for depositions.

No, the amount of experts and amount of hours they can bill are set pursuant to a rate schedule. To exceed the schedule, you must obtain court approval.

It does not authorize payment of money to attorneys.

It does authorize payment to a "mitigation specialist

Another Q&A

Since someone has apparently "unleashed the lawyers", i have a question: As I recall, the judge ordered that there was to be no direct or indirect contact with the victim, Amy. So, does Jose inviting Amy to call his office and offering Casey's friendship to her on JVM constitute contact, either direct or indirect?

rhornsby -

Technically, a lawyer is allowed to act as in intermediary when there are "no contact" provisions in place.

So, while it was unwise for Mr. Baez to say what he did - I do not think it was illegal or unethical, just unwise. Because Amy would always be free to request the court to lift the "no contact" order.

Anyway, his unwise comment cannot be used as a basis to get Casey in trouble. However, even though Casey would not technically start probation until such time as she is released from jail (if ever); the law does allow her probation to be violated before it even starts (and thus adjudicated guilty on the remaining counts) if it is determined she violated a term - such as writing or calling Amy herself.

Caylee Anthony’s Mom Found Guilty In Check Fraud Case
Posted on January 26th, 2010
by Jan Barrett in All News, Society and Culture, crime
Read 619 times.

Caylee Anthony is the little girl that disappeared in mid June 2008 but wasn’t reported missing until 31 days later by her grandmother. Yes, her grandmother NOT by her own mother. Her mother claimed she had been doing her own private investigating trying to find her daughter during that time. Casey Anthony claimed she spent the time looking for her daughter but the question remains, why in the world would she expect to find little Caylee in nightclubs dancing and drinking at night when this beautiful little girl was only 2 years old. I am pretty sure it would be illegal for a club to let a child that age to party with the adults.

Not only was she looking in nightclubs but she was spotted in places like Blockbusters with her then boyfriend renting movies and she was also caught on cameras in places like Target shopping, buying stuff like beer, and lingerie. The thing is she was not buying these things with her own money. She was using her former friend, Amy Huizenga’s checkbook and writing checks off the account without her permission.

Casey appeared in court yesterday ad she plead guilty to the check fraud charges that she had been charged with. She made a statement saying, “I just want everyone to know I’m sorry for what I did … I take complete and full responsibility for my actions. And I’d like to sincerely apologize to Amy. I wish I would have been a better friend.” She was seen crying in court after she was found guilty on the 6 counts of check fraud. I hope she doesn’t think that will gain sympathy for her from the public. Most of the public was hoping for a stiffer sentence. Casey only sheds tears when they benefit herself personally.

Although the prosecutors asked for a 5 year sentence Judge Stan Strickland sentenced her to credit time served and an additional one year of supervised probation. In addition she was ordered to pay $6000 in court costs which she reportedly considered to be exorbitant.

Also in court on Friday Judge Strickland granted the defense permission to allow the ex-wife of Roy Kronk, the man who found Caylee’s remains on December 11, 2008 to be deposed under oath. According to the defense team his ex-wife, Jill Kerley was married to Kronk for about 4 months and her testimony is material because they believe it can prove that Kronk should be a suspect in the case. Apparently Kerley lives in Tennessee and she is tool ill to travel.

In my opinion I have to ask why she is saying this about her ex-husband now. If she truly thought this how come she didn’t speak up when he first found Caylee’s remains? One would think she would call and say something about it the minute she heard that he was the one claiming to find her. It just sounds a bit too convenient to be telling all this late in the case.

The defense team also had filed a motion to stop the Orange County jail from taping Casey while she meets with her attorneys. Thankfully the judge denied this motion which I agree with 100%. Why should she get special privileges? In fact as a US Citizen I feel insulted that they would even consider asking for special privileges for her.

She now is a convicted felon with six counts of check fraud against her. She can no longer play the little miss innocent that has never been in trouble before. Besides one can be innocent of ever being in any kind of trouble and still kill someone. There always has to be a first time for even the cruelest killers. So using her innocent past with the law is certainly no reason to believe she is innocent in killing her daughter.

Caylee didn’t deserve to lose her life. She was a small child, a baby still that had her whole life ahead of her. She was full of life and that was ripped away from her. The person responsible for this needs to pay dearly for it and in my opinion Casey Anthony is that person. Hopefully her wanna-be-dream-team doesn’t get lucky in this case. I pray the state wins it. Caylee needs justice so she can rest in peace.

Are Convict Casey Anthony Defense Attorney’s Affections Real or A Ploy?

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I wish there had been another choice on the poll.  IMO they are always touching and hugging her to make her seem even smaller and more vulnerable.  Let's be honest, she is not a big person and she is a relatively nice looking young woman (I know some will disagree with me, but as I said this is JMO)...so by hugging her they want to appear protective towards this young woman who has been wrongly accused.  And AL does it IMO to control her,
