Brandi and All - I had been across the Border countless times - and Yet I kept being flagged.
Not every time was I alone. Some times it was my Canadian fiance driving his vehicle and we were pulled over and " Taken" .......  Him going into the states.  I mean come on - being tagged flagged several times in a 12 month time- Never anything to be found. There was nothing to find. We are not Terrorists - We were guilty of having a relationship between the border that is all.
Neither he nor I even have parking tickets.. It got to the point we felt we were being harassed. Some of the Border agents were cool. They actually remembered my Name etc. Why? it wasn't hard to remember me - I was driving a Sebring convertible that had front ball bearings shot ..that the NOISE was as if I had a Cherry bomb Muffler .. I wanted to be " Unknown" .. I was being sneaky right.. get out of town. I am no longer crossing the Border due to the fiance and I are no longer, I have never gotten a passport - which is now law. And thankfully - I am not driving a car that was a piece of crap. I sold it.

Being that the border bet Windsor and Detroit is less than 3 miles - just a bridge and we Depend on each other - for so many things - I would think that they would adjust to a person that travels all the time .. vs a person who is " Once" or hardly ever -who looks or appears to be questionable... I don't know. its disturbing.

I hear tell if you carry too much change (like over $5) they will keep you because of some stupid rule about stealing change from the US. As if.

Being that the border bet Windsor and Detroit is less than 3 miles - just a bridge and we Depend on each other - for so many things - I would think that they would adjust to a person that travels all the time .. vs a person who is " Once" or hardly ever -who looks or appears to be questionable... I don't know. its disturbing.

Deenie, have you thought of getting an Enhanced Driver's license? I thought about it, but I was already a month late renewing mine.

I have no reason to cross the Border any longer.  Some day I will have to get a Passport I guess to drive to Ohio...... from Michigan.  I have never heard of a enhanced Drivers license = what is that? 

An Enhanced Driver's License has an RFD(?) chip in it. You flash it about 15 feet before the border guards, it transmitts your info to the guards. You'll still have them asking you questions, but it's like an E-ticket to Canada, it shows the guards you are ok. It was implemented to make frequent travel across the border easier, on BOTH sides (thank God, the Americans were always more scary than the Canadians...pre-deportation, of course! ) It only costs $45.00. I think I might try for one before I do the pardon thing...it would be a good indicator of just how far back and how deep they dig!

It can be anything. When DH and I flew to Alaska, he was double searched..all because he didn't take his belt off (I told him to). I just laughed. I traveled that time and the next to Alaska in a skirt with flip flops. My purse was about 5 inches square, enough to hold drivers license and tickets and smokes and matches (this was before we were allowed lighters...which will probably get banned again). Oh, and I wore a t-shirt with a jacket over it. By the time we got to Fairbanks, I was an excellent stripper! DH said I shoulda had my own pole, I was very fast in the undressing department.

Now, Alaska kids are saying they'll be home for good this summer. Son thinks it'd be great if I flew up there and drove home with him and the dog, letting DIL and grandson fly home. Seems she's had enough trips over the AlCan. I'm all for it, and am looking into how to solve that whole deportation problem with Canada. I might have to ask Northern Rose to sponsor me for the 2.5 days it takes to drive thru Canada. I'm gonna put it to DH as "this is my reward for being a good cancer patient". Think that'll work?

Oh, and if I do fly to Anchorage, I always go thru Chicago or Minneapolis. I avoid Detroit Metro like the plague!! I'd rather drive 5 hours to chi-town...

That's great that your son and family will be back for good  I've never been to the Detroit airport, Chicago several times, Minneapolis once. I remember going to Detroit with my family many summers, but I haven't been in that area since I was a kid.

I flew out of detroit with my hubby about 9 years ago - it was the most awful experience of my life. I had not flown much before but it was just when they opened the new Northwest terminal. No one knew what was going on and even the pilot in front of us in line at the snack bar said he hates flying into Detroit. So now we fly out of Flint when we go - it is 20 minutes away, park by the door and no hassles. Much better.

Hi Monkeys - hey where did everyone go???    I was catching up and poof you all disappeared.  Oh well I am still in relaxed mode and did very little today.  Ahhhh.  I see we are talking a bit about airline security - I went to Alaska 6 years ago to visit my dad and I was one of the lucky ones that was pulled aside and searched - heck I even had to take off my shoes and socks, I am a blonde with blue eyes I have always wondered if they randomly select or if it is done by a count (ie every 25 people) but it sure is interesting.  Tevye my dad lived in Anchorage - is that where your son lives?

Mission, I've been off checking into a  pardon. Aiaiaiai, this is gonna be fun- not! I have to make sure that what happened in Canada stays in Canada. It may be that a little red flag will go on my US record (which does not exist, I'm a perfect example of a crazy ol lady!), but it may make my jail admin curious and goof up my internship and possible job. Carp! Oh well, I wrote to an RCMP paralegal in Canada for advice...we'll see.

My kids live in Wasilla. They hate driving to Anchorage....all that distance, and only one road! Everytime there's a rock fall, or avalanche, or even a two-car crash, the highway is closed forever. They need to build a bridge across Cook Inlet!

All I know of Anchorage is the Ted Stevens Airport....the most beautiful one I've ever been in. When the kids were in Fairbanks, we drove down to Valdez, that 's as far south as we sight-seed. (I was more interested in northern AK< I loved the desolation around Fairbanks! I am SO weird!)

Hi Monks--Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

The last time I returned from England a couple of years ago I just went through the "Nothing to declare" gate in Atlanta and showed my passport.  The customs agent wanted to know if I knew Dolly Parton since I live in Pigeon Forge, so I told him I do.  I actually don't but he was impressed.

When I flew from Knoxville to Augusta for Thanksgiving, I had to change in Charlotte to a PROPELLER plane.  That sucker was whirling around right outside my window.  I had never flown on a prop plane before, but there was no difference, just took longer.  I didn't even know they used prop planes any more.  Coming back was a small jet to Charlotte and a regular jet to Knoxville.  My sister-in-law was with me and has some trouble walking, so I got her a wheelchair and a guy to push it.  In security, they really searched her.  Even looked at the bottom of her feet.  She's 75 years old and can hardly walk.  Yeah, sure, she looks like a terrorist.

It seems they go after the ones that aren't terrorists, but the ones that look are terrorists. Like that picture of the TSA agent in her hijab searching a nun. I wish I had that picture on this computer.

Thanks Deenie, Reagan had his problems, but along with a few other people ended Communism and to me that is the greatest acheivement anyone could do, now we have a Commie in office. Hot springs stink like rotten eggs, but they are so worth it! We went to one in Alaska which is used (geothermically) to power the whole resort. It was very very awesome! And yes, of course it was like 20 degrees and snowing, it was the best!!

Tevye we went there today and I swear I was in bed with Josef's butt facing me. No way am I getting in water that smells like it came from a 45 pound blue heeler's behind. We are pond skating tomorrow after my brother and his gf go on the hot air baloon. Hope they have fun, it is going to be about 25 degrees and God knows how cold it is up there. I think I will stay in bed until they are finished.

I will get that link for you again to get your clearance to cross over .  Have driven the Alcan more times than I want to admit.  Some pretty cool things along the way if you take the time to look at them.

I like the Minni airport better than Detroit or Chicago.  Atlanta and Boston are also on my "only if there is no other choice list"  Really bad experience in Atlanta.  Good thing was I got bumped up to first class the whole way back to Canada because of it which was nice.

I'm afraid of things like that, and hot tubs, heck I rarely take a bath only shower. Not because I'm afraid of water, but I got a urinary tract infection from he!! a few years back, that lasted for months and months, no matter what antibiotic I was put on it didn't get rid of it, I really thought I was going to have it forever 

Oh that's awful No Rose. I have never had a UTI, so I don't know what that would be like. I stopped taking hot baths after y'all told me that would keep my legs from being so dry. So far so good and using that bath wash instead of soap has worked wonders!!! Except I forgot it for the trip. But I brought some corona cream (horse ointment) that has really helped my legs from being scaley and dry.

I am laughing so hard I am crying.  The bad egg smell comes from the sulphur if it is a sulphur hotspring.  Riley's butt smelled worse after he licked the  topping off the lemon slice the other night

Hey Mission, sorry I had to leave for dinner with the family. I always get pulled out. I don't know why, but I do. To tell you the truth, it didn't bother me back in the day but it does now that they will pull me out and not everyone. They should do like the Israeli's and El Al do.
