The spiders would seriously hav freaked me out!  I hate the creepy crawly things.... YUCK.  That must have been awful.

Oh, they freaked me out.         That's why I said NO to live trees after that!
Its funny now - but it wasn't back then.
Hi Sassy, sorry to hear about that spider mishap. I definitely would have been a mess (and not be able to sleep) if that happened to me. Makes me glad I always have an artificial tree.

Hi QM.          I like artificial trees now.     Thank God they don't come with artificial spiders!

Those jokes are funny  I needed that. My husband got the right things  but then couldn't figure out why the car doors and trunk didn't open, so after a couple minutes he realized it was the wrong black car   I'm going to need a drink before this day is over.  Glad everything went well with your mom Darla  an angelic monkey

That's true, I wouldn't be afraid of them though. Some of them can look pretty creepy, atleast for a second before you realize they're fake!

Good morning monkeys.... took me a bit to catch up on all I missed while out yesterday.  More shopping and wrapping.  Today, more elfwork as well.  Time to clean this place up before the festivities.  I will have a houseful this weekend.  Would much rather stay in here to read and chat.

I love your avi.

The Christmas sweetyl made for me by Brandi... the monkey... just found it online... isn't he a hoot?

Yeah.  and every time I see it, I laugh.   Your name is perfect - bananas.          Very cute.

I almost animated the mouth of her monkey to open and close. But I couldn't decide what it should be saying. LOL!

Good Afternoon, I survived the eye appt and Walmart. Glad to be back in my quiet house.

Northern Rose, could you use one of the bungie cord things to fix the tree stand?

I thought of that but think because a bungee cord has some elastic it may not be easy to keep it stable and or shoot the cord across the room as the other cords are tightened.

When I was a kid, my dad would hammer two boards together in an x shape then nail it to the tree trunk. I have even tied an old artificial tree to the curtain rod to keep the tree straight. lol

My dad used to do that, too.    We were kinda poor and there were six of us kids.   One year, he went into the woods and chopped down the ugliest tree ever.    It looked ok once it had lights and a few presents were put under it.

A few years back, we got a tree from a roadside stand and it had a spider nest inside that we didn't know about.   After about 3 days, the baby spiders were all over my living room.               There were so many, we just couldn't kill them without spraying the tree.  So our wonderful evergreen Christmas tree smelled like bug spray all thru the holidays.
The following year, we bought an artificial tree.

The year before last we went in the woods and hiked up a hill and found the perfect tree! we (as in the fiance, not me) cut the tree down and drug it to my jeep, we brought tie down straps and got the tree on my jeep, which is lifted, and secured it tightly made sure it was facing the right way, and off we went...

about 2 miles later on the hwy the rack on my roof of my jeep decided to stop being cooperative and detached it self from my jeep, the tree flew off the jeep and the other rack stayed attached and tie to the broken fallen off one...

Couldnt get it to work and had to leave the tree on the side of the road...

so last year we got a tree and took the truck this time.... and it is lifted too, and i am short, so we finally got it in the truck ( we have vaulted celings in living room so our tree was 12ft tall, so we made it home tree and all, set it up decorated and enjoyed it, then time to take it down, APARENTLY there were little bug eggs on it, and they had hatched in our nice warm house, so the whole trunk was covered in non flying, non identifiable groos @ss bugs!! how in the h3!! do we get it out with out bugs going EVERYWHERE??? we evacuated all furniture in living room got a huge tarp opened the sliding glass door and out it went...

So this year we have a beautiful FAKE tree...

The End

I love the Olive Garden also, but it is 55 miles away. Wish they would build one closer. I have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Walmarts.

im cooking a ham!  i can't wait.  i love the holidays for the food.  and i plan to cook all the yummy stuff!
Ham sounds good  The Olive Garden, we like going there on Christmas Eve.

Yum.   I love the Olive Garden.   Especially the salad.           We are finally getting one near us.  We used to have to drive 40 miles to eat there.
I love it  I can't believe your tree story  my youngest is crazy afraid of spiders, we would have had to moved out, that is scary.

I kid you not - there had to be a couple hundred spiders.   And we had our annual Christmas Eve party and we were trying to spray the house with Evergreen Air Freshner but you could still smell bug spray.          I wonder what our guests thought.
Oh my, I wonder what they thought also  A new Christmas tree scent.

Never had a real Christmas tree. I do have quiet a few real live trees throughout my yard (they came with the house when we bought it). Anyway, I did take pine cones that fell on the ground from a couple of them. It's a good thing I read up on it first and baked them in the oven for a couple of hours. Before I did that though, I had put them in a zip lock bag, and sure enough I could see little tiny (almost hard to see) bugs crawling around in the bag. Yuck!

Spent the day baking yesterday and helping a friend.  Then spent last night going to 5 stores to find a tree stand as I killed ours on Sunday.  Never did find a stand.  Guess with the artificial trees stores just do not carry a large supply of stands anymore.  Torn between decorating the tree with it leaning against a wall or just saying scr@w it.

More baking to do today as well as candy making.  Kids love peanut brittle so that is on the list for the day.
I haven't seen many tree stands this year  Prop it up against the wall, that should work okay  May be harder though to put the lights on, but I'm sure when you are done it will look great. I have all this baking and my husband is still at Walmart, with a few items, and some tin foil pans I needed. He has called me so many times, I just told him just bring me some pans, I don't care what they look like anymore  By the time he gets here, I'm not going to want to do this.

NoRose you are so funny. A man just can't do things right lol. My mom use to send my Dad to the store and he would come back with all kinds of stuff.

My step dad left for the hardware store and came home with a new car for my lil sis
Send him over here, I'll gladly take a new car

Well now I'm afraid to go look at the pine cones I have decorated in little snowman boxes in my house.

If you bought them don't worry about it, I'm positive those would already have been treated. If you picked them off the ground yourself, you may want to bake them for a couple of hours, at about 250. It makes the house smell nice too!
