an angelic monkey Thanks for the coffe Mission! I had lots of nicknames for my dog too!

I still called him my puppy even at 10yrs old.
and he will always be your puppy - it is so hard without them but memories are forever - I think Santa should bring you a puppy for Christmas.

Aww, thanks Mission. Thanks to all monkeys for helping me get through losing my dog! It really helped to come here and read all the kind words from everyone. I will miss him immensely this christmas for it will be the first one without him!
As far as the new puppy, not this christmas. But, maybe someday there will be a new little puppy running around the house? Just not yet.  an angelic monkey
It will be hard QM - we lost our German Shepherd in April so this will be our first Christmas with out him - he loved the snow he was all black, we would laugh so hard at how snow covered he would get from rolling around in it, I made a pretty wreath just for him and hung it on a stand where we buried him.  an angelic monkey

Yeah, I need to get some cleaning done here too. Got to get a little baking/making done tomorrow for Christmas day. Things are beginning to wind down now, but it never seems I'm quite ready enough though.

I am just cooking bacon, grits and eggs and sausage. My mom is doing the homemade biscuits and my sister is doing sweet rolls. Nothing fancy, just a good southern breakfast. I am having my morning tea while I am sitting here, then I will get started cleaning.
Darla that sounds wonderful - I love good ol southern cooking it is the best.  I need to clean today too I am waiting for the ol bod to get cranked up

Thanks Mission. That is why I am sitting here, waiting on my stiff old body to decide it wants to move. I don't think I moved all night and I am so stiff this morning I can hardly go. I had a really bad day yesterday, I guess it is the rain that is moving in for tomorrow. I use to laugh when old folks said they could tell it was going to rain. Now I am one of them, so I don't laugh anymore.
Couldn't be farther from the truth that you can feel when the weather is going to change - I woke up today and my knee is stiff as a board - sheeesh and we are expecting snow.  I used to thumb my nose when people would say that too but no more.

My Mom and I will have a quiet Lunch Christmas day with my sister and BIL and her two grown kids.  Then we will make the rounds and see what Santa brought the grandkids. All the hullibaloo will be over at my house by lunch time tomorrow. Then I can kick back and visit the Monkeys tomorrow night. With extended families it is hard to get everyone together at one time anymore. And everyone has so many places to go and so much Christmas food they get sick of it. So I think breakfast is the best time to have it. The kids are not tired and whining and ready to go home. We have been doing breakfast for the last 4-5 years and everyone has such a good time.

an angelic monkey Aww, hugs Mission, I'm sorry for your loss. That is so nice that you made a wreath for him. My dog was a shepherd too (maybe a belgian-we were never sure). We had him cremated, I still have his ashes in the tin they came in. We want to get a special urn, but we haven't been able to do it yet.

I am so sorry for all of you who have lost your furbabies. I know how hard it was when we lost our doxie. We all cried for weeks. But they are all chasing butterflys in doggie heaven and having so much fun together.

I have a question for CBB...anyone seen her today? or else someone in here can answer this question... I will also ask over in the recipe thread...
for her fruit dessert salad, it calls for 2 pkgs. of Dream Whip....I had picked up 2 containers of Cool Whip...is that the same thing or is Dream Whip packages a completely different thing??? help! I am ready for step 2...

I think it would be the same Cookie. You just have to beat the Dream whip and the Cool Whip is ready to go.

That sounds like a nice tradition darla. I would have never thought to do breakfast with the family. My family, well the whole extended family, is getting to the point it's getting tough each year. It's always been crazy with all the noise (my mom has a total of 12 grandkids), and we've been doing Christmas day for forever. Now the oldest is 20 and all the rest are getting older too. Breakfast is a nice idea.

IIRC ...CBB said it was an old recipe and maybe it is before Cool whip came out. But I feel sure it would be okay to subsitute.

I am too, so very sad, but what a wonderful thought that all our beloved pets are chasing butterflys in doggie heaven  an angelic monkey I really like that thought.

We have also hosted the Christmas breakfast and it really does work out nicely...they have breakfast with us and then they move on to the other families and have lunch, dinner foods...it is really fun! little kids are excited to open gifts..it is magical!

QM, My kids and my sister and brothers kids all have in-laws and some of them have a set time they have their Christmas gathering each year and will not work around anyone. My mom and I have always worked around everyone else's time schedule. So we tried the breakfast deal, and everyone just loved it, so we stuck with it. Plus my son and daughter have entirely different work schedules so we have to do some shuffling around at times.
My son is working tonight and my daughter has to pull the 3-11 shift tomorrow afternoon, she usually works weekend shift at the nursing home but they have to pull one shift either tomorrow or Friday, so the weekday workers can get some time with family.
