Court records paint new picture in Tempe missing baby case

TEMPE, AZ -- As the search continues for a missing Tempe baby, we're learning more about the family at the center of the case.

Police say mother Elizabeth Johnson is not cooperating with authorities who are working with the FBI in at least four states to find her baby, Gabriel.

"Just tell me where he's at," said Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary.

McQueary was granted custody after Johnson didn't show up for a custodial court hearing and allegedly fled the state with the child.

He has made many public appeals to find the 8-month-old, but court documents now reveal he may not be Gabriel's biological father.

In her petition for custody on Dec. 14, Johnson wrote that there were "two potential fathers," and requested that both McQueary and another man, Craig Cherry, take paternity tests.

Cherry said he had no comment on the case when reached by phone Sunday.

Tempe police officers brought Johnson from Miami-Dade County, Fla., and booked her into the Fourth Avenue jail at 2:06 a.m. Sunday. She is being held on $1.1 million cash bond.

Johnson faces felony charges including kidnapping, child abuse ande custodial interference.

Deputy Doug Matteson, a sheriff's spokesman, deferred comment to Tempe police, who are investigating the case. Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Steve Carbajal was not available for comment.

Tempe officials plan to release more information about the case during a 1 p.m. briefing Monday.

The story of missing Gabriel Johnson reads like a book of lies, misdirections, possibilities, and plausibles. Tempe (Arizona) Police have been searching for 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson for nearly two weeks. According to CNN, the child's mother, Elizabeth Johnson,
was arrested on December 30 in Miami Beach, Florida, after she failed to appear for a custody hearing on December 28 in Arizona. But Johnson did not have the 8-month-old with her when she was picked up in Florida, prompting authorities to immediately begin searching for the child. Before long, however, investigators would have conflicting stories as to Gabriel's whereabouts.

In wondering how it went from 3 dogs to two and how Tammi knew it was two not three (why did Tammi not say she sold her THREE dogs? )

Between the time EJ placed her first ad for 3 dogs and the second for two, someone else placed an add that they were looking for a 2-3 year old pom.  What are the odds of that ?and I bet the other female Pom went to this person.

I am looking for a pomeranian, not a puppy but one that is younger then 3 yrs old. I have two kids under 10 and also a larger breed dog (that is fixed and UTD on all his shots). I would like the pom to be already fixed and also UTD on all shots but it is okay if it is not that will be taken care of.It should also be potty trained, and create trained. I do NOT care about sex. Mixes are okay also. The dog needs to be great with kids and other bigger dogs. not looking to pay an arm and leg, but I am willing to pay a REASONABLE rehoming fee ( For purebreds Under $150 if NOT papered up to $200 with papers and for mixes not more than $100) please feel free to email me. Johnson's first phone call from jail Sunday morning was to her grandfather, Bob Johnson.

Bob Johnson said, "Well my telephone rang and it was my darling granddaughter calling me from the 4th Avenue Maricopa County jail."

Just hours after her booking photo was snapped, Elizabeth was calling to say hello.

"She seemed in a very happy, upbeat mood, " Bob Johnson said. "I guess in her mind she's accomplished her goal, which was to adopt her son, give him to somebody."

I found them all with google, by hitting show more results under some that were pulled,  looking for her phone number that is on the ads and matching it to the address on the court docs for her.   For giggles I just put the number into Bing to see if it pulls anything else and VIOLA first hit, her name, the trailer park address that coincides with the court docs and a map to her trailer     

For future reference, Bing seems to have a far better search engine when it comes to phone numbers that could have saved me at least half a day.

LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - Darkness has prompted police to call off a search for a possible toddler in the Rio Grande at Los Lunas.

The search began Wednesday afternoon after a man called 911 to say he'd seen a toddler floating face-down in the river.

Los Lunas Police Chief Roy Melnick says the man sounded credible, so police took no chances even though no one in the area reported a missing child.

The man was walking over a bridge on N.M. 6 when he spotted a child wearing a diaper in the river.

State police assisted with the search, and a dive team, a helicopter and a hovercraft were called in.

**This still bothers me and I wonder if there is something more to this. Anyone know how far this is from Tempe, AZ? I went back for an update and all I could find is that the search was called off last Thursday. No explanation as to why or any additional updates on this sighting.

I am trying to follow this case but I am pages behind. Why are the Smiths not in jail? Did they take and pass poly's? It sure sounds like they know what happened but are refusing to say.

It might be difficult to keep a craigslist ad up for baby adoption without it being flagged and removed. I once was giving away a dog and I was told I couldn't do that, (what?), so going with that same logic, it might not be possible to give away a human being on craigslist.

This girl is unbalanced, whether it be because of her past childhood or a mental disorder, she had no business being around this baby, ever.

Have no idea why the Smith's are not in jail.  They took polys on Friday, which were sent out for results. 

Never heard of sending the test out to have the results read.  Normally the person administering the test can read the results instantly.  LE must not want the Smiths to know the results.
