Mother of missing child returned to Valley

   Eight-month-old Gabriel Johnson and his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, of Tempe.

The Valley woman who is not cooperating with police in the search for her missing 8-month-old son has been extradited from Florida to the Tempe jail, police said Sunday afternoon.

Tempe police also announced that Elizabeth Johnson faces charges of kidnapping, child abuse and custodial interference. She is being held on a cash bond of $1.1 million.

The Tempe woman claimed she killed Gabriel Johnson and left him in a dumpster, but police believe the child is still alive. The child’s disappearance has sparked a nationwide search.

On Sunday, police appealed to whoever may have Gabriel, saying the child can be turned over to a fire station or hospital if that person is afraid to come forward.

Gabriel was last seen with his 23-year-old mother Dec. 26 at a hotel in San Antonio. She lost custody of her son to the boy’s father, Logan Scott McQueary, two days later when she failed to show up at a custody hearing.

Johnson was arrested Dec. 30 at a youth hostel in Miami Beach, Fla., and held while awaiting extradition. She told McQueary that she killed the baby and left it in a trash bin. But police have said they believe Gabriel is alive and they are investigating whether she gave him away.

Police said Johnson had been attempting to have Tammi and Jack Smith adopt the child, and that couple has since been named “persons of interest” in the investigation. Police said they believe the couple has information they are withholding from investigators.

Tempe police said they plan to announce more information Monday afternoon. If anyone has any information about the boy’s whereabouts, they can call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at (800) 843-5678.

Also earlier in the video, Tammi says they met her in the airport 7 months ago and then didnt hear from her till late one night in December asking if they wanted to adopt the baby. I thought she just met her 30 days ago. I must have missed something down the line.

Dec 27 pings from Elizabeth'e cell near Victoria TX, heading toward the Mexican Border

Dec 27 11:45 Elizabeth seen parking her car at Hotel 6, sitting for 5 mins, getting out with a large backpack, and walking across street to Tornado Bus

Dec 27 Just before Noon Elizabeth buys ticket to Fort Lauderdale, FL . for for $180.00 and waits for bus which leaves at 1:00pm.  Only white person on bus.

December 30, police in Miami arrested Johnson, but found no sign of the baby.

I know I said I was going to my corner but I can't shut up I guess. What I find curious is in the grandfathers interview he said something like....I dont' know why she would go to texas and not los angeles? When I first heard that I was like, L.A.? Does LA have a reputation for being in the adoption business? I didn't think so, or at least not more then any other large city, Then I see on the site that Northern Rose posts they have an office in LA. Strange isn't it?
