It appears that Tammi Smith and Elizabeth Johnson were in constant contact while this young mother was on the run with Gabriel.

Tammi said that Johnson never gave any details about what kind of support group she had while she was on the run with Gabriel, making vague references in her communications with them to women’s shelters and “the underground.”

“She’s a very secretive type person,” Tammi Smith said of Johnson. “I did ask her, but she would not give more any details. I had to force that stuff out of her: ‘What about diapers?’ ‘What about formula?’ ”

Tammi said Johnson would respond, “They’re gonna help me. They’re gonna help me,” without ever saying who “they” were.

Police: Person Of Interest Withheld Information

POSTED: 7:53 pm MST January 12, 2010
UPDATED: 8:23 pm MST January 12, 2010

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe investigators revealed bits and pieces of new information today surrounding their investigation into missing 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson. Some of that information sheds light on why police still believe a Scottsdale couple has not been completely forthcoming in their police interviews.

Tammi and Jack Smith have been named persons of interest in the baby's disappearance. They were the couple that had befriended Elizabeth Johnson and were interested in adopting her son Gabriel.

Johnson and Gabriel's biological father, Logan McQueary, had been in an ugly custody battle. McQueary is listed on the birth certificate, but when Johnson filed court papers, she indicated another man could also be the father. That man is Craig Cherry.

Today, Tempe investigators said they interviewed Cherry and he told them he had never met Johnson and never talked with her. Cherry also told police that he was related to Tammi Smith. Commander Kim Hale, who is heading up the investigation for Tempe police said that information surprised him. "That was information that would have been probably helpful to us in the very beginning," said Hale. He also said that in all of the police interviews with Tammi Smith, she never mentioned she was related to Cherry. Police used that omission as an example of why they believe the Smiths are withholding information and why they are still considered persons of interest.

In a phone interview, Cherry said he was Smith's first cousin and that the two are very close. Cherry also reiterated that he had never met Johnson and that he could only speculate as to how she learned his name, in order to use it on court documents.

Tempe police confirmed late Tuesday night that they had investigators in San Antonio, the last place baby Gabriel was seen the day after Christmas, searching for clues.

Well now does it surprise anybody that a relative of Tammi is listed as a potential father? It seems Tammi was just as desperate to get Logan to waive his rights as EJ was. I just simply can not imagine how EJ chose that particular name. She would have been better off to point a finger at Tom Jones

Even when they knew Johnson was on the run, they put her in contact with Janet Morris, an adoption specialist in Nashville, Tenn.

The FBI searched her house as part of the investigation into Gabriel's disappearance.

According to court documents, Morris was once challenged for allegedly stripping a father of his parental rights without properly notifying him -- exactly what the biological father of Tammi and Jack Smith's adopted daughter, Hannah, says the couple did to him.

"I'll put my hand on any bible in any court in the United States and swear to it," Travis Andrews Warford, Hannah's biological father, told CBS 5 News.

I will have to go through the info I got to find out where I got the texting part.

from page 64 Timeline:
Date the 26th:
Adjacent to the park is the Mission Burial Park North, 20900 Interstate 10 West, that consists of about 63 acres. (If she did lose control, and made good her threat to kill the baby, then this is one place nobody would think of looking. I know very sad to think of this happening.)

I found the information about Burial (Cemetary) when searching for the Raymond Russell park the other day and added into the timeline. I had not read it any where before.

There's more about Janet Morris that if you search you will come up with two locations for The Adoption Place:

505 Oak Forest Circle
Antioch, TN 37013-1842     (A city related to the Smiths)

and   2311 Brookstone Ct.
Mount Juliet, TN 37122-3263    (both have the same area code 615)

the second one is listed as: Janet Morris Adoption Con    (yes really, Con)
annual income $75,000 with two employees
Lindee Vaught is associated with The Adoption Place

I wrote this down and didn't save the links but it was in Google.

In a phone interview with CBS5, Cherry said he was Smith's first cousin and that the two are very close. Cherry also reiterated that he had never met Johnson and that he could only speculate as to how she learned his name, in order to use it on court documents.

But later Tuesday night, in a call to CBS5, Tammi Smith tried to explain.

"I remember the conversation between me and (Elizabeth). We were laughing about it and I just commented on how Logan (McQueary) and my cousin (Craig Cherry) have the same record about DUI's and stuff and we were making a funny joke about that."
  (yeah right)

But in the same call, Tammi Smith admitted she drove Johnson to court to file the paternity request. She even made three copies of the paperwork that clearly labeled her cousin, Craig Cherry, as the possible father of the boy she wanted to adopt.

Smith told CBS5 she never read it because she was in a hurry.

"Did I drive her there? Yes. I watched the baby the whole time," said Smith.

Smith says she would have been forthcoming with investigators, but she doesn't remember them asking her about Craig Cherry.

For Darla's question:

http://nancygrace.blogs.cnn.com/2010/01/05/8-mo-old-baby-missing-in-danger/

An Arizona couple contacted McQueary after the disappearance, asking McQueary to sign adoption papers for Gabriel. The couple, Tammi and Jack Smith, claim immediately after Johnson sent McQueary the text and voice messages saying she killed the baby, Johnson sent the Smiths a text message saying she only did that to get back at McQueary and that the baby was fine.

Wonder if she named Craig Cherry as a possible father just to tick off Logan in hopes he would sign the papers knowing she had messed around with someone else.

Since he claims he and Tammi were close, I would love to know how much Mr. Cherry knows.

I would think the plan was to have Cherry sign over his rights to the baby.   However, this plan fell of the tracks when Logan took paternity test to prove he was the father.  If Logan had not of done that, then I would think Tammi would have Cherry sign the papers saying he terminates his rights.

N.G. has been duped by this con artist, who wanted to swipe a baby and not adopt.

Ms. Grace should interview Mr. Cherry and dig to the bottom of this mess. IMO.
