Obama, Osama -- oops, CNN's sorry

Posted by Mark Silva at 12:30 pm and updated at 1:53 pm CST

Make no mistake about it: When the venerable CNN inadvertently swaps the name of Barack Obama for Osama bin Laden in its stream of 24-hour cable news, an apology is certain to follow.

And that's what happened today, after CNN showed a screen-graphic yesterday about the elusive al Qaeda leader, Osama, and mistakenly displayed the name of Obama, the junior senator from Illinois who happens to be considering a campaign for president. All of a sudden, the Situation Room had a little situation on its hands. But the Room's Wolf Blitzer promptly took care of it with an apology both for viewers and for the senator. "We did receive a call,'' Obama's spokesman tells the Swamp.

"Though I'd note that the 's' and the 'b' keys aren't all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake, and don't think there was any truly malicious intent,'' Obama's Tommy Vietor said today. "We greatly appreciate the bloggers and activists who brought this error to our attention and helped make sure it was corrected so quickly."

I stopped listening to and watching CNN during the early days of the Natalee case. You are still watching CNN?

Typos happen. People are not mistake free. All the news media commit errors because ultimately they are run by humans. I have seen hundreds of typos in newspapers, in online blogs, even in textbooks.
I don't think it was intentional, and it has received way too much attention.

I'm more worried about the latest school shooting, how a 3 year old ended up alone on the interstate, and about the soldiers in Iraq.

Tyler,

I don't have a clue what you are talking about  ...  "Is that Hillary's shovel I hear or Bill's knife being sharpened?"

Please explain further.

Thank you.
