I wonder what took them so long? I was hoping it was because they had good evidence the child was alive. This is heartbreaking.

Missing baby search could lead to a S.A. landfill

SAN ANTONIO -- Eyewitness News has exclusive developments in the search for Gabriel Johnson, the baby who has been missing since December. 

San Antonio Police Department tell us they are working on the logistical aspects of what it would take to search the Tessman landfill on I-10E near Foster Road.  SAPD says they haven't gotten word that the search will be necessary, but they are taking the possible task seriously. 

Other Media outlets have reported that the search has already begun, but SAPD says that is not the case.

   There was an article in one of the SA news sites that there is a search going on in the same landfill for a computer of another girl.  I am wondering if the news are getting these two searches mixed up ?

This is very confusing - I wish we were privy to more info from LE - I can't imagine what it is going to be like searching that landfill after a month now?    This is very frustrating and disheartening.

Strange phone call from 'Baby Gabriel's' mom to Tammi Smith

Kristine Harrington reports on the Scottsdale couple who say they were set to adopt Baby Gabriel. The couple now says someone is trying to set them up and link them to the baby's disappearance.

Tammi is so full of it in that interview that even every machine she has hooked up simultaneously could not clean her out.  First off she said in the famous CBS call to Gramps that she could not get calls from EJ as they only had cell phones not landlines.  Now she says she was trying to get the call traced??? She think EJ was at McD's getting super sized or did she ignore the message that a call was from jail?  Trying to set up Tammi     how about trying to make sure that Tammi owns up to her part of it.  A jail call connect to a 3rd party?

Missing Baby Case: Police Search Landfills


In the case of a missing boy from Tempe, Arizona, police in San Antonio, Texas are now looking in landfills.

They won't say if they're looking specifically for baby Gabriel or just clues in the case.

Gabriel has not been seen since his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, ran off with him before Christmas.

Elizabeth is facing kidnapping charges.  She plead not guilty and is not helping the police find her son.

Missing baby's mom could face charges in Texas

SAN ANTONIO -- The mother of a missing 8-month-old baby from Arizona could face charges in Texas.

Gabriel Johnson was last seen in San Antonio on Demember 26th. His mother, Elizabeth Johnson, was alone when she boarded a bus headed for Ft. Lauderdale, Florida the next day. She was arrested there and returned to Arizona to face kidnapping, child abuse, and custodial interference charges.

Local prosecutors have not previously discussed the case on camera, but agreed to answer News 4 WOAI's questions about the case Tuesday.

News 4 WOAI broke the news last week that police plan to search a landfill near Interstate 10 and Foster Road because Gabriel's mom told the boy's father she killed the baby, stuffed his body in a diaper bag, and threw it in a dumpster. However, Elizabeth Johnson has given conflicting stories about what happened to her son. She also said she gave the baby to a couple she met here in San Antonio. So, police have to investigate both claims. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Johnson may face charges here.

"We don't have any cases filed in our office yet by the police department," explained Cliff Herberg of the Bexar County District Attorney's Office. "They're still investigating. But, of course, if there was evidence that determined some sort of crime occurred here in Bexar County, well then, charges could be filed."

Elizabeth Johnson pleaded not guilty Monday to the charges filed against her. Prosecutors in Arizona plan to hold a news conference concerning the case Tuesday afternoon.

One month since Tempe baby’s mysterious disappearance

TEMPE, AZ -- It has been one month since baby Gabriel Johnson was last seen.

Tempe detectives say they are holding out hope the 8-month-old boy is still alive and won't discuss details of the ongoing investigation.

"Signs that Gabriel is alive are dwindling, that's why we need more tips to come in," said Tempe Sergeant Steve Carbajal.

The boy's 23-year-old mother, Elizabeth Johnson, pleaded not guilty in court Monday to charges of conspiracy to commit custodial interference and custodial interference.

She also faces kidnapping and child abuse charges in connection with the disappearance of her 8-month-old son.

Gabriel Johnson was last seen the day after Christmas, after Elizabeth reportedly took him from Tempe to San Antonio. She has reportedly refused to tell investigators what happened to her child.

The hearing came just 24 hours after a large group gathered Sunday to hold a candlelight vigil in support of the family.

This whole interview makes no sense to me.  WTH?  I sure would love to hear the recording (if they recorded it, which I have to believe they did) it makes me highly suspect of the real truth about the nature of this call - if it happened at all.  Tammi appears to be in damage control mode and I am afraid it ain't gonna work.

San Antonio Landfill Ready For Police Search

San Antonio, TEXAS -- The stage appears to be set for a massive undertaking at a San Antonio landfill in connection with the disappearance of 8-month-old valley baby Gabriel Johnson.

A spokeswoman for Republic Services, which owns and operates the Tessman Road Landfill in San Antonio, confirmed that they are using their expertise in managing landfills to help police. Peg Mulloy said landfills are highly engineered and well planned out. “Things are so well engineered that we can hone in on a date and a neighborhood,” said Mulloy, referring to locating a specific cell of trash in the landfill. Mulloy confirmed that waste mangers at the landfill have identified a possible search cell based on information provided to them by police.

San Antonio is heading up the missing persons investigation as it relates to Gabriel because he was last seen in that city. San Antonio police will not speculate if or when a landfill search will start, but sources have told CBS 5 News that it could be sometime in the next two days. San Antonio police said Monday that they had one more tip to follow-up on before making a decision on a landfill search. Tuesday night, police would not say if that tip materialized.

There are two separate but parallel investigations going on. The first one is headed up by Tempe police on charges of kidnapping and custodial interference. Gabriel’s mother, Elizabeth Johnson, is the suspect in that case and is in a Maricopa County jail having been indicted on charges. The second is a missing persons investigation being conducted by San Antonio police in Texas. Depending on the outcome of that investigation, San Antonio could have a homicide case on their hands.
