Woman charged in missing baby case

Tempe police arrested Smith Tuesday, and she is out on $15,000 bail.

According to court documents, Smith tried to adopt Gabriel Johnson before the boy's mother, Elizabeth Johnson, skipped town with him Dec. 18.

On Dec. 27, Johnson told the boy's father, Logan McQueary, she killed their son and left him in a trash dumpster.

Police arrested her Dec. 30 in Florida, and she told investigators she gave the child away to a couple in San Antonio. She is being held on a $1.1 million cash bond in the Maricopa County Estrella Jail and has remained uncooperative about revealing the boy's whereabouts, authorities said.

Gabriel hasn't been found.

San Antonio police told the Tribune they plan to start searching a landfill there this week for his remains.

"The focus for now has to be to prosecute the case here to the fullest extent," Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Thursday. "We all want to find this child safe and sound."

According to court documents, Smith pressured McQueary to sever his parental rights and give Gabriel to her, and she contacted a judge in McQueary's and Johnson's custodial case to request that he grant her guardianship of Gabriel.

Smith told the judge she believed Johnson would return the baby if she knew he would be safe.

Smith also admitted to naming her cousin as Gabriel's father in paternity paperwork, which she filled out for Johnson, records state. The cousin told police he had never met Johnson.

Friends of Smith also told police she asked them if she could use their names for the paternity paperwork.

Tempe police said earlier this week that evidence confiscated from Smith's home in north Scottsdale on Jan. 14 from the execution of a search warrant was helpful for their case against her.

I watched the video of the View.  Jane Velez Mitchell was a guest and talked about several cases in the news and one of them was Gabriel - they showed lots of pics and had a live video running of Tammi getting out of the Paddy Wagon......I am not a JVM fan BUT I must say I was impressed - she summarized what was happening in the case and at the end she sent a very strong message and plea out to the audience that if you have Gabriel or know someone who does and they are keeping him because they may feel he is with better parents DON'T do that because the baby has a father who is totally devastated and you MUST come forward or tell us where the baby is RIGHT NOW!!!!! She was mad.

I love you Monkeys to death, but I can't watch or listen to anymore of that video. It is going to be with JVM, so it is probably what was on last night. They haven't got to that segment yet and the site is bogging my computer down. The video is poor and the audio is breaking up.

I completely understand - I can't stand that show except for Elizabeth Hasselbeck - I did watch just the Gabriel portion and then to find the guest host talking about it was Jane Velez Mitchell I about had a stroke.......we know you love us - we love you too.

if you go to the link below and put in each of thier last and first names, they each have the same thing on 8/19/1998 only these guys make Tammi look like a saint when you see their records. No wonder she thinks shes a good guy (look who shes hangin around) Very interesting. Some dated back to 1964 so much older than her to already be in the system in 1964. She was born in what 72-73....hmmm

There are no toes to be stepped on.  This is about Logan seeing and kissing  each and all of Gabriel's 10 toes and fingers and hopefully really soon!

I am confused now.  The trailer that Logan had to clean his stuff out of is the one that EJ listed as her residence on the court docs.  I realize that after their fight on Dec 8th Logan moved out and EJ stayed there.

I believe Tammi said on NG that she confirmed there was a roommate (discounting her as she spews so many lies) but gramps also said that EJ did have someone move into the trailer.  Where is this roommate now?  If you look at the closet there are only female clothes in there so assuming they are EJ's and Logan left her stuff.  Is the landlord going to sell all her stuff that is left behind?

As for the landlord, like they could not wait as this poor father is looking for his child is missing? Compassion not in their vocabulary?   We dug the names of the owners up on the other thread and IIRC it was a holding company out of CA but the actual owners were in China.
