Dorel recalls 635,000 cribs after infant deathPosted: Jan 19, 2010 2:32 PM
WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Around 635,000 Dorel Asia cribs are being recalled after the manufacturer found a defect with the drop side when an infant died.
The danger is in a hardware malfunction: the drop side can detach from the crib, creating a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped or suffocate.
Consumer Protection received a report of the death of a 6-month-old from Cedar Rapids, who became stuck after the hardware broke and the parents continued to use it after trying to repair the drop side themselves.
CPSC and Dorel Asia received reports of 31 drop side incidents, including six incidents during which children were entrapped. Three of those children suffered minor bruising.
