snip from
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/missing-mom-susan-powell-s-son-mommy-s-in-the-mine
As part of their search efforts, teams are dropping cameras into two silver mineshafts 20 to 50 miles away from the area Josh Powell claims he took his sons camping. These mines are at least half a mile deep.

thought i would bring this over just in case, now that they are activley searching
winter is coming so sad

---------------------
trimm i think i had mentioned b4 that the owners of the mines, in utah an elsewhere
would not be receptive to outsiders, i know a few, and they are protective of their
claims, has to do with GOLD, not people missing, sometimes it takes yrs for the owner
to get back to their claim. it is said that the blm has workers that sorta oversee theses
claims for a fee, a fee off the blm payroll of course, and once a mine has been
back filled, it is a difficult task,$$$ and labor to undo safely
the seachers would be better off checking this and talk to the claim owner

not sure if any monkeys are helping in the searches or talk to the searchers
sorry i forgot a link for the above map system

A. choose state/utah
B.choose county/Tooele
C. choose all forests
click search, you get a list of claims, click the heading { more info } will give the name of the owner, if you click the blue i, it will located on the map

claim search
http://www.geocommunicator.gov/blmMap/mining_claim_search.faces

how to use
http://www.geocommunicator.gov/GeoComm/reference/NILS_GC_How_to_use_guide_LSIS_2007.pdf

you can click heading [ reports] for owner info name, addy, ect.

just thought of something, wonder if josh bought a mine or set a claim
if he dumped her in a mine, it would take a lot of research, in locating
the mine, and if the mine is not operated anymore ect.
did the LE ever take josh puter i wonder
going to have to read the article again on the conversation josh had
about the mines

camp and are about 60-80 miles from where josh said he camped
if i can find them so can he

side note IDRR, this
Courts records show that the family filed for bankruptcy in 2007.

I have been looking for silver mines in Toole County.  Found Gold Hill Mine.
Gold Hill Mine Deep Creek Mountains 40°09'38"N - 113°48'20"W

http://www.mindat.org/photo-175621.html

some images of the mine and town from 2001.  There were 10 people living there in 2001 and from the link above if there are tourists that just go and dig it would seem that anyone can get near the shafts.

Group searches for Susan Powell in abandoned mines

JUAB COUNTY -- A new search is underway for missing West Valley City mom Susan Powell. A group that calls itself "Mojave Underground Utah" is searching abandoned mine shafts near Eureka.

Thursday, volunteers lowered a camera 1,200 feet down to the bottom of an old silver mine in hopes of finding Powell's body.

Their search came up empty, but the group intends to continue its efforts in other abandoned mines in the state, which number near 20,000.

Their method is controversial, however, because they don't have approval from city and state authorities to conduct these searches.

Powell has been missing since last December.

Birthday party honors Susan Cox Powell, missing nearly a year

PUYALLUP, Wash. - Family and friends threw a birthday party on Saturday, but the guest of honor was missing.
With tears streaming down his cheeks, John Cox shared the misery his family has endured over the past several months since his granddaughter Susan Cox Powell disappeared.
"We've been close, but I think it's brought us closer because you've got to be together as a family to get through it," said Cox.
The Cox family gathered in Puyallup today to celebrate Susan's 29 birthday.  Her father, Chuck Cox, said a prayer dedicating Susan to God's care, and prayed that any guilty parties connected to the case will be held accountable. Then, Chuck and Judy Cox released balloons in Susan's honor.  A table nearby featured a flower bouquet and a birthday cake with Susan's picture on it.  Her parents opened gifts presented by Susan's friends, including a scrapbook highlighting some of their favorite memories with Susan.
Susan Powell Cox disappeared from her adopted hometown of West Valley City, Utah last December.  No one has been arrested in connection to the case.
"She's watching us.  She knows we showed up," said John Cox, who traveled with his wife Anne, Susan's grandmother, from their home in Battle Ground, WA.
Susan's husband, who now lives in Puyallup with the couple's two young sons, was not present at today's gathering.

He probably made that pix himself. Probably never mentioned it was her B-day to her kids. They are not old enough to remember on their own that it's her B-day.

Wow, I was thinking Zahra might have been put in a mine shaft.  I didn't realize they were searching for Susan Powell in a mineshaft!
