Very possible Gypsy.

In the very least, I believe Steven Powell helped Josh with the coverup.

So does Steve Powell's SIL.

Interesting read.  The article reveals background dynamic encompassing Josh's family.

Powell case leaves family fractured

Susan Powell said her father-in-law belittled her and pressured his son not to attend Mormon church services, said Josh Powell’s sister, Jennifer Graves, in a Friday interview. In the weeks leading up to Susan’s disappearance, Josh and his father spent hours on the phone several times a week, Graves said, and the couple’s strained relationship grew worse.

“I think Steve knows everything by now and has chosen to help cover it up. Whether or not he was involved before and during the fact, I’m not sure,” said Kirk Graves.

In the article here    http://www.king5.com/news/Susan-Powells-father-husband-in-court-over-custody-of-kids-130647888.html

Josh states that his father won't be bailing out  and that if he did he would take the kids and live in a hotel.  How will that be beneficial? who will pay and for that matter who's going to go get a job and pay the house note?
He can't be trusted with those kids imo, he might take off, he might decide if he can't have them nobody else can either...red flags are waving .

I agree! he is a loose cannon and in my opinion, a danger to those children. those kids are better off with Susan's parents..
IMO he is a danger to Susan's family also.  I hope they have protected themselves and greatly beefed up security all around them.  I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for them, the horror of Susan being gone now mixed with the joy of finally having the boys in the house. And then back to what must be terrfiying, not knowing if that psycho Josh is lurking around now to kidnap the boys.

Husband of Missing Utah Mom Battles for Custody of Kids Despite Child Porn Probe
Published September 28, 2011

The husband of missing Utah mother Susan Powell is due in court Wednesday to battle for custody of the couple's children, despite an accusation that he was the subject of a child porn investigation.

Josh Powell is trying to win back his sons, ages 4 and 6, after they were temporarily placed with their maternal grandparents Chuck and Judy Cox.

During a hearing Tuesday, assistant attorney general for Child Protective Services, John Long, accused Josh Powell of being the subject of a pornography and voyeurism investigation, Komo News reports.

Police said they were trying to establish whether Josh Powell had anything to do with the thousands of images his father Steve Powell -- who is currently in jail awaiting trial -- allegedly captured of women and girls without their knowledge, according to the Salt Lake Tribune

I hope that Josh's involvement/noninvolvement with the porn stuff is not the only criteria the court uses to decide custody. What about his alliance with his father regarding the false allegations of Susan's sexual and flirtatious behavior? The isolation of the boys from anyone but them? What about Josh's earning capability and the fact that he has made no attempt at establishing a stable life for them, I don't think SP did all of his voyerism and online activities hidden from the rest of the household?  I wish they would order a psychological eval on him.

The public record should have dictated that those little were at risk and should not have been allowed to reside in Steve Powell's residence for the past two years.  It was obvious that this man was a sicko from way back.

APNewsBreak: Susan Powell’s father-in-law had past porn troubles in 1992 divorce case
Updated: Wednesday, September 28, 12:42 PM

SPOKANE, Wash. — The father-in-law of a missing Utah woman was once accused of inappropriately discussing sex with children and keeping pornography in his home against the wishes of his wife, according to court documents.

A 1992 divorce case reviewed by The Associated Press shows Steve Powell’s ex-wife accusing him of damaging his children’s respect for marriage. Powell was charged this month with child pornography and voyeurism after authorities investigating the disappearance of Susan Powell searched his home him Puyallup.

Susan Powell’s husband, Josh, has been named a person of interest in the case, and he was recently living with Steve Powell.

In the court documents, Terri Powell wrote that Steve Powell talked of teaching his children about birth control methods when they were as young as 9 years old. Terri’s sister, Becky Mulcahy, wrote in the documents that Steve Powell told her that he had shown his youngest children books about sexual intercourse when they were 6 and 8 years old.

Terri Powell said her husband viewed people as animals and that they should be able to have sex with anyone at any time. She recalled a conversation in which Josh referred to a girl his brother, Johnny, liked. “All she is good for is her body, right Dad?” Terri recalled Josh saying.

“Yeah, that’s right,” Steve Powell replied, according to the declaration.

Terri Powell also said Steve Powell kept hardcore pornography in the home and that he visited pornography shops.

Jennifer Graves, Josh Powell’s sister, said in an interview with The Associated Press that she broke off ties with her father in part because of his problems with sex and pornography. She recalled going on a business trip with her father when she was about 11 years old and that he viewed a pornographic video while she was with him.

“Looking back, I wonder if he was willing to do that with a 10-12 year girl — his daughter— in the room, what else would he be willing to do?” she said.

I am just hoping at this point that they have enough to arrest Josh on the possible porn charges...then he certainly can't get custody.  I am afraid if they give him the boys back he will take off with them to parts unknown...another wilderness camp-out.

The other family members had to know but I am sure brother Michael put them into spin and deflect mode..coverup everything deny everything..wouldn't look good for his future political leanings would it?

Susan Powell's family is now seeking custody of her children, a request Child Protective Services has temporarily granted. A Tacoma judge spent Wednesday morning considering whether to allow cameras in the courtroom for the custody dispute and plans to revisit the case issues in the afternoon.

Live: Day 2 of Susan Powell kids custody hearing
By Brooke adams

Tacoma, Wash. • The second day of a custody hearing over the sons of missing Utah mother Susan Cox Powell began Wednesday morning but has stalled over media access issues
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
CPS temporarily placed the boys, ages 6 and 4, with Susan Powell’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, on Tuesday. Wearing a purple shirt — a color that has come to symbolize the search for the missing woman — the sister-in-law of Susan Powell said during the recess she visited with the boys Tuesday night at the Coxes’ Puyallup home.

They read stories and played games, said Jennifer Graves, who traveled to Washington from her Utah home.

"The boys really warmed up to us quickly," Graves said. "They were really happy to see us."

Chuck Cox spoke briefly to The Salt Lake Tribune about the boys, saying "They are with us and they’re doing fine."

Graves said allegations by her estranged brother, Josh Powell, that his sons don’t know their grandparents or other relatives is "ridiculous."

"They were "over at our house almost weekly," she said. "The idea they don’t know us is silly."

Asked if the boys had inquired about their dad, Graves said, "They mentioned something, but we just tried to not go into that kind of thing."

Graves said she shares the Coxes’ belief that her brother is responsible for his wife’s December 2009 disappearance and even perhaps the illegal activities their father is now alleged to have engaged in. Steve Powell was arrested on Sept. 22 on charges of voyeurism and possessing child pornography. He remains in jail on $200,000 bail.

Graves said given all that, "I believe the boys will be in a better place if they are not with Josh right now."

"It’s sad that it’s come to this," she said, but "we need to figure out the truth."

She also said she and her husband are willing to take custody of the boys if necessary.

Mods,is the link I used a bad one we are not supposed to use?If so....sorry.

It's okay trimm.  Here's the latest on that from Klaasend.  MB

FWIW - Now that it looks like Righthaven is getting itself into trouble, I think it's safe to post SNIPPED articles from the Salt Lake Tribune here at SM.  As long as the article is SNIPPED you can post the **** link and if anyone wants to read the entire thing they can figure out how to find the website.

By the way, what I do when I check for recent news in this case is I Google Salt Lake City Utah News and that will bring up news websites (including the Tribune).  For this case I also check Tacoma Washington News since the Cox and Powell family live in that vicinity.

Knowing whether he had a connection to his father "stash" will take time. In an interview this morning it was said that they collected one trailerfull of evidence and may take up to three months to go through it.

There is mention of Josh's brother answering the door in the nude, and of a hanging "noose" which Josh says is there for exercise.

No decision yet of the judge on who shall have custody.

Judge says children cannot be safely returned to father's home.

The children cannot be placed with Josh Powell.

Now the Coxes are explaining why the children should be placed with them.

Judge decided to keep the children with the Coxes!!!!... for now.

There had been talk of a poster of a woman with a spear entering her body and coming out through the stomach. Josh swore that it was not hanging on the wall.

Now I'm nauseous.

Tacoma, Wash. • A judge here has ruled the children of missing Utah mother Susan Cox Powell will remain in state custody, saying it is not safe for them to continue living with their father, Josh Powell.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson made the ruling just after 3 p.m. MST.

 ::snipping2::

Looks like Mr and Mrs Cox will be having the boys stay with them.  It appears that until they can get through the truckload of computers, and other things taken at the Powell residence the State is leaving them with the Cox family........GREAT NEWS

Following this through The Tribune reporter's twitter, from the link provided above.

Josh objected to the boys placement, don't want the boys to go to church with the Coxes, and want unsupervised and unlimited visitation.

Judge says 3 hours on Sundays, supervised, for starters.

Judge rules Susan Powell kids must remain in state custody
First published 6 hours ago
Updated 5 minutes ago Updated Sep 28, 2011 03:37PM

<snipped>

The state’s Child Protective Services (CPS) temporarily placed the boys, ages 6 and 4, with Susan Powell’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, on Tuesday. Wednesday’s ruling means they will remain in their grandparents’ Puyallup home.

An attorney representing CPS, John Long, told Nelson Wednesday there are many good reasons that warrant keeping the children in state custody instead of with their father, Josh Powell.

Chief among them: police are still investigating what Josh Powell may or may not have known about his father’s criminal activities while he was living with him in Puyallup. Steve Powell was arrested on Sept. 22 on charges of voyeurism and possessing child pornography, and police have said they are still combing through the thousands of images of women and girls filmed by Steve Powell without their knowledge.

The images, taken from 15 computers confiscated from the home in August, were available to everyone living in the home, Long argued. Josh Powell and his sons have been living with Steve Powell since last year.

Long also said Josh Powell admitted to CPS workers that he has taken photos of people’s legs without knowledge and that some of his father’s information may be on his computer.

Josh Powell countered in court that he did not go through his father’s personal belongings and also said his career as a software developer has no link at all to his father’s crimes. Most of the 15 computers were old and in disuse, he said.

I don't think that will fly..the judge has made up her mind on that issue...and Josh ain't looking so good right now.

I have a feeling he doesn't want the boys with the Coxs because he is afraid they will tell their Grandparents what they know.  I think Josh has tried to brainwash the kids about everything and coherse them into lying.
