I woke up this morning and this is one of the first threads I came to, checking in hopes that Josh Powell has been arrested.

WVC Police chief says Susan Powell search nearing resolution
Aaron Vaughn, Web Producer FOX 13 News
11:01 p.m. MDT, September 29, 2011
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah—

Video at link.
West Valley City Police Chief Buzz Nielsen talked with FOX 13 news about the Susan Cox Powell investigation and says he believes they are nearing a resolution in the case.

"We're right at the point now where, I'm just really optimistic. Things are going to move, we just have other things that are popping and going and moving,” said Nielsen.

Nielson says since the start of the investigation in December of 2009, Susan’s husband Josh Powell has essentially impeded the investigation.

"From that point on he has not helped us, talked to us, responded or anything," says the chief.

Thank u for posting this. I watched the video and am very optimistic now that they will solve this case.
The Chief sounds promising, and that is fine by me. I do not feel he is pacifying us at all as many have in the past.

Susan Powell case is at a "tipping point"
Updated: 7:09 pm | Published: 6:50 pm

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – West Valley City has spent more than $500 thousand dollars on the Susan Powell case, but Mayor Mike Winder says it’s paying off. "We feel that we are getting to that tipping point where we have more hot evidence than we have had in the past two years."

Mayor Mike Winder says that includes trailers full of evidence from both the Powell residence in Washington and the most resent search of the Topaz mountain area. "We have bones, we have charred clothing, we have charred wood, with what the cadaver dogs are excited about, and that we are doing DNA analysis on."

He says that analysis could take up to three months. "Are they ancient items? Are they relatively recent? Are they related to this case? That is what we will look to find out."

 ::snipping2::

Why does the story regarding remains keep changed.  Why is the "mayor" commenting on evidence in the Susan Powell case.

THE REMAINS?

The Original Story

Police give 50-50 chance remains are Susan Powell's
By Shara Park and Randall Jeppesen
September 15th, 2011 @ 5:12pm

DELTA — Investigators who discovered human remains near Topaz Mountain now say there's a 50-50 chance they have discovered the final resting place of missing West Valley mother Susan Cox Powell.

The remains appear to be "fairly recent," an anthropologist with the Fillmore office of the Bureau of Land Management said Thursday. That could mean the remains have been in the Juab County desert anywhere from a few weeks to over a decade.

"This is not going to be an ancient burial site. It's not going to be a cowboy from the West," said West Valley Police Lt. Bill Merritt.

The remains were found in a pile of dirt that was obviously a disturbed shallow gravesite, said West Valley Police Chief Buzz Nielsen.

They also do not yet know whether the body was male or female, but Merritt said there was a 50-50 chance it was Powell.

"It's something that's going to be interesting," he said.

The Changing Story

September 16, 2011 10:10 AM
Police in Susan Powell missing case say "50/50" chance remains could be found

(CBS/KIRO/AP) JUAB COUNTY, Utah - A search in the Utah desert for missing woman Susan Powell took a strange turn Thursday when the site that authorities said contained human remains turned up no body parts, but a police lieutenant said he thought there was a "50/50" chance Powell's remains could be found there.

Cadaver dogs discovered the location this week amid a renewed search for Powell and investigators declared that they had found human remains.

But CBS affiliate KIRO reported that about 2 feet of dirt had been excavated and no bones were found. Police did not say why they earlier stated that they had found human remains when they had not even seen any.

"Right now, we haven't found anything except for these scents that these dogs are picking up," West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt told KIRO-TV. "We have not come across bones."

Because the site is on government land, a federal anthropologist was brought in to examine the site Thursday to see if it was part of an ancient burial ground. Investigators then began sifting through what was described as a shallow grave as they searched for clues but had so far found nothing.

Investigators previously said that a federal anthropologist had determined the remains found in a remote area of central Utah were not ancient, but instead were much more recent.

I am praying that they arrest Josh soon atleast on the possible porn charges.  That way he would be in jail and unable to threaten the Cox family or coherse the boys.  I just want that man locked up for something sooner then latter now that the boys have been removed from his home.

I really believe they have found bones, charred clothing and the DNA on the campfire wood.  I hope this brings a close to the case and Josh can be put away where he can't be an influence on those children anylonger and can not remarry and hurt someone else.

They are such a freakishly disturbed family driven at the helm by Steve and Josh following in his footsteps.

If the State was so concerned over the "environment" that these two little boys lived in why did it take a month following the search for the apprehension rather than immediately.

Hangman’s noose, exercise equipment handle — or art object?

That latest description of a knotted rope apparently came hours after it was referenced in a custody court hearing for the children of missing Utah mother Susan Powell.

In a story that aired Thursday morning, ABC News correspondent Abbie Boudreau said "overnight ABC News got exclusive access to the home where Josh Powell lived with his two young sons."

Inside, she said the station got a "glimpse" of what Asst. Attorney General John Long referred to in a Pierce County, Wash. courtroom Wednesday as a "hangman’s noose."

The short clip begins in a darkened hallway at the top of a staircase and then enters what appears to be a lighted storage room. The camera focuses on a wood frame leaning against a shelf packed with books and other items. A noose-like rope dangles over the frame; next to it hangs what appears to be a papier-mâché figure.

Long told Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson discovery of the "hangman’s noose" added to the state’s concerns about the "environment" at the Puyallup, Wash., home the children shared with Josh Powell, husband of the missing woman, and other relatives.

I agree.  It breaks my heart.

Gypsy ... I too am afraid for the safety those boys and their grandparents.  Josh's think is warped.

You know what else bother's me..ABC got exclusive access to the house..how much did they pay Josh or his father or siblings for that exclusive access..meaning the pictures?

I ask that because we have found throught the Caylee A 3 year investigation that ABC was one of the biggest payers to both Casey and her parents for the rights to pics, etc...just makes me sick.

I wish ABC would just stop paying alledged criminals for the rights to pictures....it just doesn't sit well with me.

Look closely at the picture posted with the hangman's noose.  Doesn't it look like a coat hanger wrapped in brownish twine or some material and is hooked onto the front of the noose?  See the hook part that would go over a closet bar?  See the triangle shape of what I think looks like a coat hangar?  It's thin looking, maybe a metal clothes hanger...  Why?  Hangman's noose with coat hanger and a papier mache' female figure.  I remember a time some women used a coat hanger in a time of desperation.  That's all I'm going to say about that, but it strikes me as very suspect in this case and very eerie.

Maybe I am confused, When Josh gets visitation with the boys, I know the Cox family is
there, but will there be any safety provisions, that the boys won't be alone with their father
even for bathroom breaks. I'm a little afraid of what Josh will do, I don't think he is playing
with a full deck.?????

Sounds incredibly paranoid but I'd be scared if my kids were in the same class or school as the 6yr old. JP seems desperate and unbalanced so I mean it, I really hope the PD is watching his every move.

My guess would be that all visitations would be a visitation facility that is monitored.  We have one locally here.  It's kind of like a 'safe place' for all to meet for visitation.  Should the guardians of the child need to leave the room for any purpose, there is a volunteer that is brought in to sit in their place until they return.

My thoughts, as well.  Looks like an episode of 'Hoarders'!  Are these pics from the main floor of the home or the basement?  I can see a basement with stuff stacked up like this...but in the every day living area...how can that be a safe environment for a child?

It appears that supervised visitation as been scheduled to take place while the grandparents are at church.

The judge agreed that Josh Powell will have three-hour, supervised visits with his sons on Sundays. That day was picked after he objected to his sons attending church services with the Coxes, who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The paper creature reminds me of something recent.  It looks like a prehistoric flying dinosaur character.  I know that I have seen these somewhere...I just couldn't find a picture.  A pegasaurus I believe...but this particular one is seen somewhere.
