Would also like to add Northern Rose to the list of awards (for links and updates) and Klaas (for pics, maps, videos, etc).   So many monkeys who work dang hard at keeping us all informed!

Lemme see.. there's many others who deserve awards too!   We are very grateful for all your hard work and time spent!

It's interesting to me, reading comments about what's NOT being released in the tapes/videos/calls, pics, info and etc... in light of the sunshine law.

I've been sitting here, in this case and others in Florida, just wondering WTH??  when LE and the media release these things for the public to hear/read.  Seems some (if not a lot) has been redacted, blacked out, cut off, edited, erased?, etc.  In at least one case, they've admitted to editing out some info, to perhaps be released later.

And I wonder, ummmm.. Doesn't the sunshine law mean all info gets released?  I guess I'm just trying to say, why have the sunshine law if they are gonna find sneaky ways around it, and still not release the 'good stuff'?  Why just release bits here and there and call it good?

Or is LE editing out crucial evidence they are saving for trial or something?  If so, then doesn't it still go back to why even have a sunshine law in the first place?

Hi Wyks!  Good to see you, hope all is well in your world.  I'm so far behind reading on here.  I echo all your questions and award additions!

It seems everything about this case and people are delayed or withheld.

I am sure these characters that are locked up are calling on the phone everyday.  And have visitors as well.   However, we are not getting to see them like we should.

Is it because the media is not willing to pay the fee to get them?  The media is tired of seeing and hearing these idiots?

I would think the only thing needing redacted from the tapes perhaps could be a cell phone, or license plate, or address of a undercover agent and or/someone's info not related to the drug cases.

The word "Unusual" is being modest and very generous with the things being done in this case  Down right backazzwards would be better.

First Baptist Church of Orange Park Hosts '32 Seconds' Safety Seminar

Dave Wax  Ann Butler     Created: 3/3/2010 2:59:34 PM    Updated: 3/3/2010 4:09:59 PM

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- It only takes 32 seconds for your child to be taken from you.

The most recent instance on the First Coast ended without injury. Newborn Melvin Duclos was kidnapped yesterday and returned safely to his family today, thanks to aggressive police work.

The aggressive approach was mandated by Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford last month, when he said missing persons cases will be treated as priority No. 1.

The change comes on the heels of three tragic cases in the Jacksonville area.

    * Makia Coney disappeared after school in February and was found dead later that day.
    * Somer Thompson disappeared while walking home from school in October.  Her body was found three days later in a landfill in Georgia.
    * Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home in Satsuma in February 2009, and hasn't been seen since.

The church that was integral in the Somer Thompson case is holding a seminar to help teach the community the dangers of child abduction and tips to keep every child safe.

First Baptist Church of Orange Park is hosting Ken Wooden, the former investigative reporter who became known for child advocacy, Saturday for his "32 Seconds" seminar.

Wooden founded the organization Child Lures Prevention, which uses television as a platform for child safety advocacy; Wooden has written many books on the subject.

He also has spoken with many convicted predators and sex offenders, and has used their information to put together the 10 lures that are used most often.

Wooden will offer information that predators use to seduce children, too, and he will be available for questions and answers afterward.

The seminar will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1140 Kingsley Ave. It is free, but registration is required ahead of time.

Contact the church or register online.

The seminar will be shown live on firstcoastnews.com in its entirety. It also will be aired on Comcast Ch. 201.

Safety Tips

The abductor in the Melvin Duclos case claimed to represent the state Department of Children and Families (DCF), and threatened to call police if the family didn't surrender the baby.

But DCF spokesman John Harrell said DCF workers must have a picture ID that includes the worker's date of hire; anyone can  contact DCF to verify the information at 1-800-962-2873.

Also, a worker never simply shows up and takes a child, Harrell said; there will be an investigation and the family will be in the loop.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has similar policies. Officers must have, in addition to a badge, a picture ID. Contact the dispatch office to verify identity at (904) 630-0500.

When in doubt, call the agency to verify the identity of an employee who visits your home.

I am behind you Monkey with Class on your comments.  When the undercover tapes along with the jail visitor tapes were released I understood that there were 8 .... YES 8 DVD'S .  Well, I have not counted the minutes of videos that we were able to see, but I am guessing they would add up to no more than 1 HOUR -2 HOURS TOTAL viewing that we were able to see.  So it sounds as if the remaining tapes must have had some really good info that was redacted. .... here a clip, there a clip.
