Hows Joesf doing this morning JSM?

I have a question for all the Texas Monkeys. Have any of you received notice that the state has added a state tax for all Internet usage. I received though my provider that as of the first of this month I would have the tax added to my bill.

Morning Greeneyes, Joe seems to be fine this morning. I will call and check on him in a little bit. Not sure about your provider, but AT&T and Verizon has always charged State sales tax. I would call and find out what they are talking about. Sounds fishy to me.

That's good. I am sure the meds are helping. It sounded like your Josef stomach virus was like when we get food poisoning. Poor guy.
I already pay a state sales tax. They made it sound like it was going to be an additional tax strictly for Internet usage. I guess I will have to wait for next months bill and see what it says. Maybe because it's satellite I don't know. 

I think maybe it was a stomach bug or food poisoning. I haven't received any notices in our cable/internet bills here at work regarding new tax on the internet.

Green Eyes, I did a little research about this because that is an issue that has been quite controversial for a long time.

Apparently, this week, speaking at a security conference in San Francisco, Microsoft Vice President for Trustworthy Computing Scott Charney pitched the Web usage fee as one way to subsidize federal or private efforts to combat emerging cyber threats -- a costly venture, he said, but one that had vast community benefits.

In my opinion, this is a really bad idea. For many reasons. But for MicroSoft, it's a win-win situation: "Get the government to collect a huge fee, then pay Microsoft to fix up their software which they should have done in the first place."

Another comment: "If Microsoft expects to be taken seriously as an enabler of “trustworthy computing,” it needs to do a lot more than this to demonstrate trustworthiness. Taxing users who find the software they bought is non-secure is like taxing Toyota owners for finding they have faulty gas pedals."

The only Internet "Usage" fee in existence now is perhaps a state sales tax from your Internet provider, as JSM suggested. And that would not really be considered an Internet Usage fee.

I'd be more interested to see what was stated on your bill.

It is getting worse in Chelsea's thread, this monster it appears has been very busy  If it were not for the info on others, especially Amber, I wish the jail would just take him out back and shoot him. And I hope they don't go after the death penalty with him, because that is nothing but a laughable joke in this state. I would rather life in prison without parole, so one of his prison mates can take care of the issue  I'm beyond livid

I'm really trying hard to not watch the news anymore, I'm afraid that the tv will break. This country has so many issues, and I understand health care and all, but they are going to push through some bs, to too push through some bs. I really thought all these years that I could actually change things by voting. Now all I feel like is a fool, and I don't like it. If I really thought now that I could make a difference I wouldn't hesitate to vote again, but I know better now, and I hate the apathetic state my mind is in.
