SAN DIEGO - A source close to the family told 10News that the remains of Joseph and Summer McStay were found in San Bernardino County earlier this week.

However, the source did not disclose any information regarding the couple's two young sons, Joseph and Gianni.

Sheriff's investigators also confirmed at least two shallow graves with skeletal remains in it were found, as well as skeletal remains near the graves. No evidence was found at a third gravesite, sheriff's investigators said.

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP/ CBS8) - A relative of a missing Fallbrook family confirmed to CBS News8 Thursday night that bodies found in the desert near Victorville belong to their loved ones.

Patrick McStay says two of the four bodies found in a shallow grave have been identified as his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Summer McStay. But the couple's two missing sons are still unaccounted for, while investigators confirm the identities of the other two sets of remains.

Talk about finding a needle in a hay stack.

What are the chances that two graves are found in the middle of a desert. Hopefully authorities can determine just what happened to this family.

Their SUV had been previously found near the Mexican border.

McStay Family Update: Human remains found in Mojave Desert belong to Calif. family missing since 2010, relative says

Meanwhile, the couple's two young sons are still unaccounted for as authorities work to identify the remains of two others found in the shallow graves, according to the station.

However, police have not officially confirmed that the remains belong to the McStay family. In fact, medical examiners said Wednesday the process of identifying who the bones belong to may take months.

Patrick McStay spoke Friday morning from his home in Texas.

He said investigators are still determining if the other two bodies found in the shallow graves are his grandsons, Gianni and Joseph Junior.

“I want whoever did this to know… I will not let up. I will find you,” Patrick McStay said. “I want you out there because I’m going to get you.”

Patrick McStay said he has no faith in law enforcement and believes the Sheriff’s Department missed important clues in the investigation. Patrick McStay said he told Sheriff’s investigators about three people that could be connected to the disappearance of his son’s family, but feels he was ignored.

“I have to hang on to the anger because the anger keeps me from cracking up," he said. "I think it hasn’t really sunk in."

Remains in Desert ID'd as Members of Missing San Diego Family: Sheriff
Friday, Nov 15, 2013  |  Updated 11:30 AM PST

Human remains found in a Southern California desert were identified Friday as members of a San Diego family who have been missing since 2010.

McStay Family Mystery: Timeline of Events

San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said the remains of Summer and Joseph McStay were identified through dental records. The other remains found nearby are believed to be those of their children, McMahon said.

A McStay family members at the Friday news conference said the confirmation "gives us courage to know they were together and in better place"

A motorcyclist found skeletal remains Monday morning in the area between Quarry and Stoddard Wells roads, just north of Victorville, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Victorville Station said. When investigators began to analyze the bones, they came across another set of remains in a shallow grave about 6 to 8 feet away, sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller said.

Investigators said they believed the remains were that of four people, and it appeared that the remains had been there for "an extended period of time."

Friday's announcement, made at a news conference, is a key development in solving the 4-year-old mystery about what happened to the San Diego family (pictured below). McMahon said he could not confirm that the deaths are linked to a drug cartel after being asked several times about that possibility at the news conference.

"We're looking at all options in investigating who the suspects are," said McMahon. "It's too early for us to identify anybody as a suspect."

So sad...so do we know if all four were in graves?  Also, so I don't have to go back and look does anyone recall who the three people are that Patrick McStay suspected?

So glad they have been found, I wondered if we'd ever know what happened to them too.

Now I hope they'll have justice.

I agree with everything you said texasmom.
It's amazing their remains were discovered, considering their location.
